Description
The invention relates to a method for rapid analysis of magnesium chloride-containing solutions for the determination of magnesium chloride in addition to magnesium sulfate and alkali metal chlorides. The analytical method is applicable to the determination of the magnesium chloride content of potash industry process solutions, especially in the production of potassium sulfate.
In addition to the process control and process control of the potassium sulfate production process by analytical magnesium chloride determination in the reaction solutions, the inventive method for analyzing other process solutions in the potash industry can be applied.
The analytical determination of magnesium chloride besides magnesium sulfate is one of the most widely used determinations of process control of potash processing methods. The analytical methods used for this are standardized. Process control of processing processes due to the analytically determined magnesium chloride content is not possible because of the complexity and time requirements of known analytical assay methods. The analytical determination of magnesium chloride in addition to magnesium sulfate based on the titration of magnesium ions by disodium dihydrogenated ethylenediaminetetraacetate - 2 hydrate - hereinafter called ÄDTA, as well as the determination of the sulfate content by a gravimetric or Maßanalytischen method. Thereafter, an amount of magnesium equivalent to the sulfate content is subtracted from the total Mg content of the solution, and from this differential amount of magnesium ions determined by two determinations, the magnesium chloride content of the sample solution is determined. Such a determination method, which requires two determinations, takes such a long time that it is out of the question for immediate process control according to the analytically determined magnesium chloride content. According to DD WP 95131 a method is known and has also been included in the standard analytical methods of the potash industry (KALI 97-006), according to which the MgCl 2 content of the sample solution is determined by masking the magnesium sulfate by adding a barium complexionate solution and either After filtering off the precipitated barium sulfate or after addition of alcohol (methanol or ethanol) buffer solution and indicator and after heating to about '• 60 0 C with 0.1. m or 0.05 m ÄDTA solution is titrated. Although this analytical procedure already saves a considerable amount of time compared to other methods of operation, it has five preparatory steps for titration in addition to the dilution and measurement of the sample solution:
— Abmessen und Zusatz der Bariumkomplexonatlösung- Measuring and adding barium complexionate solution
— Abmessen und Zusatz des Alkohols - Measuring and adding the alcohol
— Abmessen ui d Zusatz des NH4CI/NH3-Puffers- Measuring ui d addition of NH 4 Cl / NH 3 buffer
— Zusatz des Indikators (festes Gemisch mit NaCI)- Addition of the indicator (solid mixture with NaCl)
— Erwärmen auf etwa 600C- Heating to about 60 0 C.
An immediate process control of the potassium sulfate production process according to the analytically determined MgCl 2 content of the reaction solution requires a much faster analytical determination method than heretofore known. Likewise, an automatic determination of magnesium chloride because of the variety of operations to be automated so far not possible.
The object of the invention is a significant reduction in the time required and a maximum reduction of the necessary steps for the magnesium chloride titration, whereby both an immediate process control and a. Automation becomes possible.
The invention must solve the task of reducing the time required and the required automation effort so crucial that the result is present in the time required for a process control short time of about one minute. According to the invention this object is achieved in that the previous at least five required steps are reduced to a single operation. The extreme simplification and time saving is inventively achieved in that a complex reagent solution is used, which contains all the necessary reagents, which must be previously measured separately and added in the required ratio, so that after addition of this complex reagent solution according to the invention immediately with the titration of ÄDTA Solution can be started. It has surprisingly been found that a mixture of all components required for the titration according to DDWP 95131 produce barium chloride, ÄDTA, alcohol, ammonia, ammonium chloride and indicator and can be kept titerbeständig when the individual components are mixed so that a solution of 40 to 50 parts by volume of equimolar BaCl 2 -ADTA solution, 40 to 55 parts by volume of ethanol, 4 to 10 parts by volume of NH 3 -NH 4 Cl buffer solution and 0.1 to 1 part by volume of a resolution of Eriochrome Black T in triethanolamine / ethanol. A composition of the reagent solution in the following quantitative ratio is particularly favorable:
200 ml 1 n-BaCI2-Lösung200 ml 1 n-BaCl 2 solution
1 000 ml 0,1 m ÄDTA-Lösung1 000 ml of 0.1 M ÄDTA solution
2500 ml Ethanol2500 ml of ethanol
27 g NH4CI27 g of NH 4 Cl
175 ml NH3-Lösung (25%ig)175 ml of NH 3 solution (25%)
0,1 g EriochromschwarzTin 4 bis 8 ml Triethanolamin und 2 bis 4 ml Ethanol gelöstDissolved 0.1 g EriochromschwarzTin 4 to 8 ml of triethanolamine and 2 to 4 ml of ethanol
1000 ml dest. Wasser zum Auffüllen auf 511000 ml of dist. Water to fill up to 51
The reagent solution according to the invention has a deep blue color and can easily be stored in glass or plastic bottles. It is also possible to add the indicator only later to the finished reagent solution. This makes it possible to choose such an additive, which gives an optimal color change corresponding to the individual feeling.
Furthermore, it was surprisingly found that neither heating the solution prior to titration nor accurate metering of the reagent solution is necessary to obtain accurate titration results. When using the reagent solution according to the invention, the titration with 0.05 m or 0.1 m ÄDTA solution directly to the addition of the reagent solution to the sample solution presented without prior heating and further addition of water or addition of other substances, the equivalence point is reached when the Color of the solution turns from red-violet to blue. The titration takes place in the presence of the precipitated BaSCv precipitate. The amount of reagent solution depends on the amount of SO 4 ions present and must always ensure a barium excess. In the case of the standard solutions, a good reproducibility of the results is achieved with about 25 ml of reagent solution up to 5 ml of sample solution diluted 1:10. The amount of reagent solution to be added need not be measured accurately, whereby the use of conventional dosing is possible, so that the addition in 1 to 2 seconds is possible. With automatic titration, the measurement is possible with the simplest means, since there is no claim to a particular accuracy of the additive.
The determination method according to the invention for magnesium chloride consists only of the following simple and easily executable working steps:
1. Einpipettieren von 5ml 1:10 verdünnter Probelösung1. Pipette 5 ml of 1:10 diluted sample solution
2. Zugabe von etwa 25ml Reagenziösung2. Add about 25ml reagent solution
Titration with 0.05m or 0.1m ÄDTA solution until the color changes from red-violet to blue
Dabei ist die Genauigkeit und Reproduzierbarkeit der Methode mit etwa 1 % relativem Fehler so hoch, daß die Methode außer zur Prozeßsteuerung auch zur analytischen MgCI2-Bestimmung im Labor anstelle der standardisierten Verfahren einsetzbar istThe time requirement of this determination method according to the invention is at most 1 minute, whereby the determined measured value can be used in a process control. The accuracy and reproducibility of the method with about 1% relative error is so high that the method is used in addition to the process control for analytical MgCl 2 determination in the laboratory instead of the standardized method
When the method is carried out automatically, conventional devices can be used.
