Description
The invention relates to a process for the regeneration and cooling of adsorbents in adsorbers, in particular for use in the context of air separation plants for the production of oxygen and nitrogen. With the new process steps, the running times of the overall cycle of the adsorption process should be considerably shortened and the amount of adsorbent used and the volume of the adsorption plant reduced.
Short-term processes are known in the art in which adsorption and desorption proceed at substantially the same temperature level (pressure swing adsorption). With this method, however, the carbon dioxide can be removed only insufficiently from the process gas.
As is known, CO 2 is adsorbed very well by molecular sieve but can be desorbed very poorly.
(Chemie-Ingenieur-Technik 9/1984 Y. 684 to 691 "New developments on pressure swing adsorption" by Richter, Harder, Knoblauch, Jüntgen) In DE-Auslegeschrift 2064137 an adsorption process is described in which the short cycle is achieved in that on a complete regeneration of the molecular sieve with respect to water is deliberately omitted and the
·Regeneration of the molecular sieve is carried out at a temperature below 200 ° C. ·
Der Gesamtzyklus des Verfahrens besteht aus Adsorbieren, Druckausgleich, Druckentlastung, thermischem Regenerieren, Wiederabkühlen auf Adsorptionstemperatur und Druckaufgabe. The overall cycle of the process consists of adsorbing, pressure equalization, depressurization, thermal regeneration, recooling to adsorption temperature and pressure application.
The short duration of the regeneration phase of this process is obviously achieved here by the lower regeneration temperature, since this shortens the heating and cooling times. In the description of the invention, it is pointed out that the system is fed with a dry and carbon dioxide-free regeneration gas. This is necessary because in the cooling phase after the thermal regeneration CO 2 would be taken up again by the molecular sieve, and the adsorber would already be taken over into the adsorption phase in this way.
Therefore, the following method was used for the applications where no CO 2 -free regeneration gas was available:
The thermal regeneration is carried out with pre-dried air.
The re-cooling to adsorption temperature is carried out with circulating dry nitrogen, which emits the heat absorbed from the adsorber to an additional heat exchanger again.
For the implementation of this method, an additional heat exchanger, a blower and the pipeline with appropriate fittings for the circulation mode and feeding the regeneration gases are required. The automation of the process is then also possible only with the appropriate effort.
In DE Auslegeschrift 2850806 a method for regenerating adsorbers by applying heated regeneration gas during a heating phase and unheated regeneration gas during a subsequent cooling phase, wherein a partial flow is diverted from the regeneration and sequentially passed through a heater and a heat storage is described. The regeneration gas used is preferably the impure nitrogen which has been separated off by rectification and heated in the main heat exchangers to approximately ambient temperature. The known methods require after regeneration a cooling phase, the energy for heating partially stored but also partially useless dissipated.
The aim of the invention is to provide a method for regenerating and cooling of adsorbents in adsorbers, so that the cost of energy can be reduced and an adsorption with low volume, lower adsorbent, cost can be created for a container use.
The object of the invention is to develop a method for regenerating and cooling of adsorbents in adsorbers, which, in departure from the known solutions, the rapid reuse of the adsorber, through the choice and management of the regeneration gas, a significantly shortened overall cycle, consisting of loading , Regeneration and cooling time reached.
The object of the invention is achieved in that the cooling of the adsorbent at process gas pressure in the adsorber I or Il with the purified process gas itself, and that the pressure application and cooling of the first loaded layer of the adsorbent from the process gas outlet to the process gas inlet of the adsorber II; I or I; Il takes place, and that at the beginning of the cooling phase, the pressure relief valves 5.1 and 5.2 are opened briefly. It has additionally been found that the regeneration gas can be CO 2 -containing.
The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to an embodiment.
In FIG. 1, the adsorber I is regenerated with heated dry air (valves 1.1, 1.2 opened), that is, the adsorbed in the molecular sieve components CO 2 and H 2 O are expelled again.
Subsequently, without cooling the heated adsorber bed, the pressure task via the pressure feed valve 6.2. The valves 1.1,2.1,1.3,2.3 are closed. The pressure application to the hot adsorber takes place from the process gas outlet of the adsorber Il to the process gas inlet of the adsorber I. Thus, the first acted upon layer of Adsorberbettes is relatively pre-cooled, the cooling effect can be enhanced by briefly opening the pressure relief valve 5.1. This relative cooling of the first layer of the molecular sieve bed before the process gas inlet suffices for the beginning of the adsorption process, which then follows the cooling process, which is continued by the process gas itself (process gas valves 1.3 and 2.3 open).
The heat stored in the molecular sieve is taken up by the process gas and released in the adsorption system downstream, not shown, stabilizer again and in turn utilized for preheating the regeneration gas.
While the adsorption process takes place in the adsorber I, the adsorber II is regenerated (valves 1.2,2.2 open).
