Description
According to the invention the object is achieved by a process for the preparation of fluoroaromatic compounds by thermal decomposition of the corresponding diazonium fluoroborates in the presence of an anhydrous, indifferent, organic solvent, by decomposition in the presence of an aliphatic, aromatic or cyclic ether or in the presence of an alkali fluoride and an aliphatic, aromatic or cyclic ether below the decomposition temperature of the dry Diazoniumfluoroborats performs.

In the decomposition of an aromatic Diazoniumfluoroborats in an inert organic solvent in the presence of an aliphatic, aromatic or cyclic ether and optionally in the presence of an alkali fluoride, the resulting toxic boron trifluoride is bound in its entirety and as a gaseous by-product escapes only nitrogen. The presence of an ether and optionally an alkali fluoride in the reaction mixture also prevents formation or leads to decreased formation of tarry by-products. The reaction products can be easily separated. The fluoroaromatic compound may be prepared from the reaction mixture in a conventional manner, e.g. B. by distillation or crystallization, isolated. The resulting ether-boron trifluoride complex and the possible excess of ether are separated by distillation, optionally under reduced pressure, from the inert organic solvent. When the ether-boron trifluoride complex is used in the presence of alkali fluoride as an intermediate in the formation of an alkali metal tetrafluoroborate, the latter or the mixture of alkali metal tetrafluoroborate and alkali fluoride, if an excess of the fluoride has been used, can be readily separated from the solution by filtration or decantation.
The aliphatic, aromatic or cyclic ether is used in such an amount that the boron trifluoride developed in the decomposition of the aromatic diazonium fluoroborate is completely converted to an ether-boron trifluoride complex. 1 to 5 mol, preferably 1 to 2 mol of the aliphatic, aromatic or cyclic ether are used per mole of diazonium fluoroborate. In principle, it is possible to use any aliphatic, aromatic or cyclic ether, such as diethyl ether, dipropyl ether, dibutyl ether, methyl butyl ether, methyl pentyl ether, glycol dimethyl ether, anisole, dioxane, tetrahydrofuran, which is capable of forming a sufficiently stable complex with boron trifluoride under the reaction conditions. The alkali fluoride is used at least in an amount which allows the boron trifluoride, which has been developed in the decomposition of the aromatic diazonium fluoroborate, to be completely converted into alkali tetrafluoroborate via the ether-boron trifluoride complex. 1 to 2 mol, preferably 1 to 1.5 mol, of alkali metal fluoride are added to 1 mol of diazonium fluoroborate. It can be used sodium fluoride, potassium fluoride or lithium fluoride. In this case, 0.1 to 2 mol of aliphatic, aromatic or cyclic ethers are added to 1 mol of diazonium fluoroborate. The decomposition of the aromatic diazonium fluoroborate is carried out in an inert, organic solvent in the presence of an aliphatic, aromatic or cyclic ether and optionally an alkali fluoride in solution or suspension. Any inert organic solvent in which the fluoroaromatic compound formed in the reaction is soluble under the given conditions can be used in the process of this invention. Examples of suitable solvents are hexane, benzene, toluene, xylene, chlorobenzene, fluorobenzene, dichlorobenzene, trichlorobenzene, dichloromethane, dichloroethane, carbon tetrachloride, paraffin oil. The solvent can be used in any amount. However, it is usually used so much that the reaction mixture stir well.
The decomposition of the aromatic Diazoniumfluoroborats can be carried out at reduced pressure, atmospheric pressure or overpressure, usually is carried out at atmospheric pressure.
The reaction temperature of the process according to the invention depends on the decomposition temperature of the Diazoniumfluoroborats used and is chosen so that the reaction proceeds smoothly, can be controlled safely, and the resulting toxic boron trifluoride is completely bound. It is particularly advantageous to carry out the reaction at 30 to 70 ° C. below the decomposition temperature of the dry diazonium fluoroborate.
Most advantageously, the diazonium fluoroborate is dissolved in a suitable inert organic solvent, e.g. As o-dichlorobenzene, suspended, with the appropriate amount of ether, for. Dibutyl ether, and optionally the appropriate amount of alkali fluoride, e.g. Sodium fluoride, added and the mixture unteF stirring heated so high that the decomposition reaction runs smoothly and is controlled safely, and the resulting toxic boron trifluoride is completely bound. After completion of the reaction, the fluoroaromatic compound is distilled off from the reaction mixture
