Description
"Verfahren zur Herstellung von Copolymerdispersionen für selbstglänzende Pflegemittel"Process for the preparation of copolymer dispersions for self-shining care products
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of copolymer dispersions for self-shining care products. The Gopolymerdispessionen are suitable for the formulation of aqueous self-gloss emulsions for various substrates.
Since the early 50s, it has been known to use aqueous polymer dispersions for the preparation of aqueous self-gloss agents. The characteristic of these self-gloss agents is that they give a film when dry, which is characterized without polishing by a high gloss. With these synthetic resin dispersions, the hitherto conventional two-component systems wax / resin were replaced by the three-component systems wax / polymer / resin (KL Smith Soaps, oils, fats and waxes 58 (1962) 5, 121-124). It is known to use polymers and copolymers based on acrylic or methacrylic acid esters as well as acrylate-styrene copolymers as polymer components in these synthetic resin dispersions. The aim of the development of new synthetic resin dispersions was, for example, in the field of floor care products to obtain self-shining care films that are characterized by good adhesion, good flow, high dirt and water resistance, high abrasion and detergent resistance and good gloss. With all the outstanding properties of these care products, a significant disadvantage became visible with the great tendency to fouling and the poor removability of the coating.
Die Vernetzung mit mehrwertigen Metallionen ist reversibel, so daß zunächst gute Wasserfestigkeit bewirkt wird, nachBy US-PS 23 80 08 metal-crosslinkable floor care products based on copolymers are described which consist of esters of acrylic or methacrylic acid, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, styrene and. a. Monomers are prepared and contain 1 to 12% of carboxyl-containing monomers. The crosslinking with polyvalent metal ions is reversible, so that initially good water resistance is effected, after
However, due to disinfestation and abrasion, cleaning with ammoniacal cleansers is easy. Further, by the patents US-PS 68 67 09, US-PS 68 66 89, US-PS 77 17 03 and US-PS 54 10 95 metal-crosslinkable care products are known in which the copolymer components in principle the same way from so-called "hartstellenden" monomers mainly of methyl methacrylate and styrene, and so-called "soft alternate ends' 1 monomers such as alkyl esters of acrylic acid having 1 to 8 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical or higher alkyl esters of methacrylic acid, are prepared. Ss also be monomers such as vinyl chloride, vinyl toluene, acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile, butadiene The listed monomers are used in an insufficiently targeted manner for setting a specific film hardness of the copolymers, with their specific influence on other properties of the copolymers, in particular the plasticizer absorption, not being taken into account, however, a care film is also required after repeated coating no E Increase in the tendency to fouling by emigrated plasticizer, with increased surface tack as a result, from the substrates have.
Therefore, there is a demand to produce copolymers for self-shining care products that have the lowest possible plasticizer recordings. This requirement is not adequately met by the known polymers or copolymers which are used to formulate the self-shining care products.
These copolymers are prepared by the known methods of emulsion polymerization in an aqueous medium in the presence of free-radical initiators and ionogenic and / or nonionic emulsifiers. Corresponding methods of emulsion polymerization are described in the patents US-PS 27 54 280, US-PS 27 95 564 and DE-AS 14 95 532. Feed processes are indicated in which either a mixture of the monomers in the reactor, which contains water, emulsifier and initiator, or a so-called pre-emulsion, consisting of a part of the water, the Bmulgators and the initiator, for water supply with the remaining part of the excipients is dosed.
Ss will too. "Processes are described in which a part of the Monomermisshung in the reactor with the water and the auxiliary materials is submitted .The majority of the Monomemischung is then metered in after reaching the Sektionstemperatur.
The aim of the invention is to substantially increase the plasticizer resistance of copolymers for the formulation of self-shining care products, the care films having a high gloss, a good water resistance, a high dirt resistance and can be removed with simple household chemicals.
- Aufgabe der Erfindung- Problem of the invention
The invention is based on the object of providing a process for the preparation of copolymer dispersions for self-shining care products by free-radically initiated
The Gopolyinerdispersionen allow the formulation of self-shining care products with the requirements set in the target.
- Merkmale der ErfindungFeatures of the invention
Die Aufgabe der Erfindung wird dadurch gelöst, daß nach der an sich bekannten Emulsionspolymerisation nach einem ZulaufverfahrenThe object of the invention is achieved in that after the known emulsion polymerization by a feed process
A) 10 bis 60 Gew.-Teile eines hart stellenden MonomerenA) 10 to 60 parts by weight of a hartstellenden monomer
B) 3 bis 15 Gew.-Teile äthylenisch ungesättigte Moho- oder Dicarbonsäuren,B) 3 to 15 parts by weight of ethylenically unsaturated moho- or dicarboxylic acids,
G) 25 bis 85 Gew.-Teile Acrylsäuremethylester und D) 3 bis 7 Gew.-Teile Acryl- oder Methacrylnitril in der Weise copolymerisiert werden, daß das Verhältnis zwischen Wasser und eingesetzten Monomeren in der zulaufenden Voremulsion mindestens 0,8 beträgt.G) 25 to 85 parts by weight of methyl acrylate and D) 3 to 7 parts by weight of acrylic or methacrylonitrile are copolymerized in such a way that the ratio between water and monomers used in the incoming pre-emulsion is at least 0.8.
Styrene, vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride, vinyl toluene or methyl methacrylate, for example, can be used as hard-setting monomer A. As monomer B, for example, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, maleic acid or their monoesters and itaconic acid can be used.
It is known that the methyl methacrylate which can be used as a hard-setting monomer has a favorable effect on the plasticizer resistance of copolymer films over those based on styrene. The use of styrene instead of methyl methacrylate is therefore only possible to a limited extent. In terms of economics and on Gruad favorably influencing the hydrophobicity of the copolymers, the use of styrene would be advantageous,
— б —- б -
By the procedure according to the invention and the monomer composition according to the invention, the incorporation of styrene is possible within wide limits without limiting the plasticizer resistance.
When looking at the prior art, it is noticeable that the acrylic acid esters used for internal plasticization are used relatively randomly, without their different influence on special properties of the copolymers, for. As detailed investigations have shown, copolymers with higher alkyl esters of acrylic acid (from 2 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical) are not advantageous for use in care compositions, preferably floor cleaning agents, because of their high plasticizer absorption and the resulting tendency to fouling.
Corresponding experiments showed that copolymer films z. B.j butyl or ethyl acrylate contained in the 7 / sichmacher (were dioctyl phthalate and dibutyl phthalate) were fully soluble.
Surprisingly, however, it was found that copolymer films with methyl acrylate showed no solubility in the plasticizer and retained completely tack-free surfaces. Thus, the use of methyl acrylate is a leap in quality equate. This surprising fact is mentioned in the relevant literature so far in any way.
Although copolymers based on hardening monomers and methyl acrylate no longer exhibit solubility in the plasticizer in the manner described above, they also have a very low level of plasticizer pickup. The use of acrylic or
According to the invention, methacrylonitrile leads to a further lowering of this level.
In addition, it has been found that with respect to the gloss values which can be achieved with the finished formulation, only a very narrow range is available for the incorporation of acrylic or methacrylonitrile into the copolymer. The proportion of acrylic or methacrylonitrile according to the invention which can be used for the preparation of the copolymers is between 3 and 7 ropes based on the total monomer mixture. If copolymers with higher proportions of acrylic or methacrylonitrile are used for the preparation of care products, care-giving films with unsatisfactory gloss values are obtained.
The copolymer dispersions prepared by the process according to the invention are accordingly distinguished by a high resistance to plasticizers. When using these copolymer dispersions in self-shining care agents, the resulting care films have a higher gloss, good water resistance and improved soil resistance with very good removability even of aged films.
The copolymers of the invention are prepared by known aqueous emulsion polymerization techniques in the presence of free-radical initiators, but the design of the pre-emulsion of the monomer mixture of the invention plays an important role.
To ensure a trouble-free flow of the polymerization process and a regular incorporation of the comonomers in the polymer must be ensured sufficient stability of the pre-emulsion. It is customary to stabilize the monomers in the aqueous phase by adding ionogenic and / or nonionic emulsifiers with constant stirring so that they can be fed uniformly in finely divided form to the polymerization reactor. Increasing stability is observed in the Hegel with increasing proportions of anionic emulsifiers.
In the solution of the object of the invention, however, it was found that the mixtures in the specified monomer is only very limited the case. First, increasing stabilization is observed with increasing surfactant concentration, but even at very low Bmulgatorkonzentration trist the opposite case, the pre-emulsion separates quickly again and any further increase in the surfactant concentration leads to poorer stability of the pre-emulsion.
In addition, a particularly pronounced dependence of the stability of the pre-emulsion on the initiator concentration was observed. Even at relatively low concentrations occurs very rapid collapse of the pre-emulsion.
Durch Verschiebung des Verhältnisses zu Gunsten des Wassers wird die starke Abhängigkeit weit zurückgedrängt undSurprisingly, it has been found that the strong dependence exists especially when the ratio of water to monomers is less than 0.8. By shifting the ratio in favor of the water, the strong dependence is pushed far back and
It is possible to vary both the emulsifier and the catalyst content in the required ranges, for example up to 2 parts by weight, based on the monomers used.
Diese Erkenntnisse erlauben, die erfindungsgemäßen Copolymeren mit den dargestellten Eigenschaften ohne zusätzlichen technischen Aufwand nach den herkömmlichen 'Technologien der wäßrigen Emulsionspolymerisation herzustellen·These findings make it possible to prepare the copolymers according to the invention having the properties described without additional technical complexity using the conventional aqueous emulsion polymerization technologies.
The polymer dispersions prepared according to the invention can be mixed with the wax emulsions customary for this purpose and other auxiliary mullets. The addition of metal salts, preferably zinc salts, allows a reversible crosslinking with the mentioned gate parts.
The films obtained on drying of the ready-formulated care emulsion show, without polishing, an excellent self-gloss and very good removability with ammoniacal cleaning agents.
The softener pick-up and the contamination of the care agent films associated therewith are so advantageous that removal of the aged film is necessary only after repeated coating of the substrate.
