Description
The invention relates to a method for the preservation of moist cereals, in particular feed grain, as well as other linings for storage or intermediate storage.
Of the known preservatives, only propionic acid and mixtures of propionic acid and other organic or inorganic acids have proven suitable for this purpose. Propionic acid is added to the wet grain depending on the dry matter content and the intended storage period of the grain in amounts of 0.4-2.4 % .
However, it is relatively expensive and also provide storage, transport and use of liquid and corrosive acid high demands on the technology of the process and the material properties of the transport and distribution facilities. Because of these difficulties, preservation with propionic acid has hitherto had very limited practical significance. In the GDR, it is currently not available for the conservation of wet cereals. Every year large amounts of wet cereals have to be preserved through aeration and hot-air drying. In wet weather during the harvest period, however, the drying capacity is insufficient, so that more or less large amounts of the harvested wet cereal can not be dried fast enough. Above-average losses due to moldiness of the crop are the result.
Ammoniak ist billiger und in größerer MengeRecently, BOTHAST and coworkers have demonstrated in wet corn trials at water contents of up to 25% that the addition of 0.5 or 2.0 % ammonia can effectively suppress the growth of yeasts, molds and aerobic bacteria. Ammonia is cheaper and in larger quantities
Während der Lagerung geht Ammoniak durch Diffusion allmählich verloren, so daß zur Sicherung einer längeren Haltbarkeit relativ große Mengen eingesetzt werden müssen.available as propionic acid and therefore has advantages over these, so that the use of ammonia or ammonia solution as a preservative for wet cereal could be an alternative to the propionic acid process. Nevertheless, however, transport and use of ammonia or of ammonia solution in the large quantities required for the preservation of wet cereals are technologically difficult, complex and associated with significant odor nuisance. During storage, ammonia is gradually lost by diffusion, so that relatively large quantities must be used to secure a longer shelf life.
The purpose of the invention is the effective control of yeasts, molds, aerobic bacteria and insect pests in moist cereals and other feed materials during storage or intermediate storage of these substances.
The invention has for its object to develop a preservation method for wet cereals and other fodder by means of v / effective, cheap, sufficiently producible and technologically easy to use additive as a preservative.
Die Spaltung des Harnstoffes verläuft nach der Gleichung:It has been found that moist cereals and feedstocks with similar dry subculture contents are storable under aerobic conditions by the addition of urea as a preservative. The preservation effect is based on the enzymatic cleavage of the urea in the presence of water and urease and the consequent release of ammonia. The cleavage of the urea proceeds according to the equation:
- CO «r IiH2 + H2O Urease > 2 NH- + GO2 *CO "r IiH 2 + H 2 O urease > 2 NH- + GO 2 *
First of all, released ammonia is the substance that promotes ecoprotection, although the carbon dioxide produced contributes to the protection of the food from aerobic spoilage. The urease required for urea cleavage is either already present in the feed to be preserved or is formed microbially during storage. The pH optimum for the urease effect lies between the weakly acidic and weakly alkaline reaction range. The urea is added depending on the moisture content and storage period of the feedstuffs in amounts preferably up to 3 % based on the original substance. It can be added to the substances to be preserved both in solid dispersible form or liquid as urea solution. Wet cereals intended for feeding and other fodder, whether alone or mixed with other fodder or flavoring substances in chopped, compacted or ground form, may be preserved, stored and subsequently fed. The removal of any interfering ammonia in the preserved feed before feeding them can be done by drying or aerating the linings, or neutralizing the ammonia by adding acid, silage or silage seepage, or by other chemicals.
According to a further feature of the invention, the urea may be mixed with other preservatives, e.g. Hexamethylenetetramine, formalin and sulfite or with osmotically active substances such as fc.B. Common salt or basic compounds, e.g. Soda, to be applied. The urea may also be present as a component of compounds which are more difficult to hydrolyze than urea, e.g. Acetylurea, to be used.
Furthermore, the use of urea as a preservative in admixture with buffering substances is possible.
Die wichtigsten technisch-ökonomischen- Vorteile der Erfindung bestehen in folgendem:The most important technical-economic advantages of the invention consist in the following:
By using urea as a preservative, the moist harvested feed grain can be stored or temporarily stored in a moist state. The vefluste be reduced to a minimum, because the urinary addition not only prevents the growth of harmful, aerobic microorganisms, but also the germination of cereal grains and the infestation with harmful insects and cereal mites.
The existing drying and ventilation systems can be used fully for the drying of bread and seed crops.
The workload and the costs of grain storage are reduced.
In addition to wet cereals, other lining materials, such as e.g. Wheatgrass plants, moist straw or mixtures of straw as well as whitewares with a high dry matter content.
The fact that the ammonia is released only during storage, no odor occurs during storage of the grain. The continuous release of ammonia neutralizes ammonia losses during storage and ensures long-term durability.
- Harnstoff ist bei Verfütterung der konservierten Futterpartien an Wiederkäuer Konservierungsmittel und Stickstoff-Quelle zugleich.- Urea is a preservative and source of nitrogen when the preserved feed lots are fed to ruminants.
Die Erfindung soll nachstehend am Beispiel der Feuchtgetreidekonservierung erläutert werden:The invention will be explained below using the example of wet grain preservation:
The wet grain harvested with the combine harvester and intended for feed zebra / corner, which can not be stored due to an excessively high moisture content, is mixed with 1% urea before storage. The interference of the urea can be done both at harvest on dosing on combine harvester as well as in the storage of grain. The addition of urea to the grain is possible both as a solid substance and as an aqueous solution. The storage of the treated with urea moist etreides is preferably carried out in free storage (rent), or in warehouses, storage or silos. The protection against precipitation by roofing or applied plastic film is desirable, but with shorter intermediate storage but "not mandatory. Containers or foils which limit the escape of the ammonia formed increase the shelf life. It is not necessary to aerate or convert the grain in the warehouse. However, these measures can additionally be used to control the storage temperature or to degas the stored material before consumption. The wet grain is stored in this way for several months through to feeding or stored for a shorter period of time until drying or other processing. It is primarily fed to ruminants because the urea or ammonia nitrogen remaining in the feed is also a nitrogen source for these animals. Feeding is also possible on pigs.
