Abstract

Disposable absorbant diaper comprising an external impervious support sheet (1), an absorbent pad (2) fixed to said support sheet, an internal pervious cover sheet (3) covering the absorbent pad, attaching means (9) to close the diaper, longitudinal elastic elements (8) fixed in a stretched condition to the support sheet outside the absorbent pad, and two side flaps (10) extending above the absorbent pad so that their proximal edges (13) are connected to said cover sheet along longitudinal lines situated inwards with respect to the longitudinal edges of the absorbent pad and so that their distal elastic edges (14) are situated close to each other. Description

The present invention relates to a sanitary article comprising a removable absorbent diaper intended for children or restless people of the type comprising an absorbent pad disposed between the impermeable outer support film and the permeable inner film.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Hygiene articles of this type are known, for example, from GB-A-2,161,059 to Kimberly-Clark. According to this document, two lateral impermeable flaps facing each other are drawn onto the absorbent pad so that their elasticized distal edges are disposed close to each other. The two side impermeable flaps are formed by double folding the liquid-permeable inner sheet that covers the liquid-impermeable backing sheet and the absorbent pad secured thereto. At their two ends, which correspond to the two transverse edges of the diaper, the flaps are secured so that they are always facing inwardly, that is, one against the other, without allowing folding outwards, for example when the sanitary article is stored on the user. These side flaps improve the impermeability of such sanitary articles in the lateral direction, particularly in the crotch region.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The disposable absorbent diaper of the present invention comprises a liquid impermeable outer backing sheet of a rectangular outer shape, a generally rectangular absorbent pad attached to said backing sheet, and a permeable inner cover sheet covering the absorbent pad. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The diaper, as illustrated in Figures 1 to 3, comprises, in a manner known per se, a liquid impermeable backing sheet 1, an absorbent pad 2 made, for example, of fluffed cellulose pulp and optionally incorporating a so-called superabsorbent polymer core, a permeable cover sheet 2. for wastes and made, for example, of a nonwoven web. Each flap 10 is comprised of one length of a sleeve 11 of breathable material, for example preferably a hydrophobic or liquid impermeable nonwoven fabric, composed of one length of a strip 11 folded back and crushed on top of each other and closed by a longitudinal track 12 of adhesive or weld. The length of the sleeve 11 is attached to the film 2 by a longitudinal adhesive or weld line 13 that extends along the entire length of the diaper at a slightly offset backward inward direction relative to the edge of the absorbent pad 2 in the crotch region 5, see Figure 2.
