Abstract

The present invention relates to an article carrier of the basket type and a blank therefor comprising a base (150, 154), opposing sides and end walls (14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24), medial support means (72, 110), internal partition structure (90, 86, 120, 124) and handle means (42, 44), wherein the internal partition structure (90, 86, 120, 124) is adjacent to a handle (42, 44)panel and is connected thereto by a first fold line (76) and second fold line (78). Said first fold line and second fold line (76, 78) being interrupted by a first cut line (80), which defines an upper edge of said handle means (42, 44).

Technical field

The present invention relates to a crate of basket-type articles adapted to accommodate a plurality of articles, such as bottles, and a blank for forming the crate.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

A common part of the basket crate is a central partition, which includes a handle for lifting and carrying the crate. The bottles are arranged in a row on either side of the partition and are often separated from each other by transverse partitions that extend from either side of the partition centered to the side walls of the crate. In this type of container, the bottles are therefore housed in individual chambers. However, these chambers are not necessary.

One example of a basket type crate is described in US 3,326,411. The side panels and end wall panels are located on opposite sides of the handle panels and the central partition. The handle panels are delimited partially by cross sections that delimit their side and top edges and interrupt the center bend line.

The problem of basket-type crates is the frequent requirement for the partition to extend deep into the crate. This requirement results in greater paper consumption. The present invention should be provided with baffles that can extend relatively deep into the crate while minimizing the amount of paper required. Another requirement is a blank that can retain integrity during the folding process.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

One aspect of the present invention is a blank for making a crate of basket type articles comprising opposing side and end walls which are foldably connected in series one after the other, a base, center support means, an inner partition and a handle positioned in the blank with the first an edge adjacent to opposite side and end walls. At least one panel of opposing side and end walls is connected to the handle. The central abutment means and the inner partition extend outwardly from the opposite edge of the handle to which they are connected by first and second folding lines, which are separated by a first cross-section defining the edge of the handle.

According to one optional feature of this aspect of the invention, the first cross-section may further define a side edge of the handle panel.

According to a further optional feature of this aspect of the invention, the first and second fold lines may be selectively positioned relative to the upper edge of the opposite side and end walls according to the desired depth of the partition such that the transverse dimension of the opposite side and end walls remains unchanged. Similarly, the first and / or second fold line may be positioned adjacent the side edges of the handle according to the desired height of the inner partition.

According to a further optional feature of this aspect of the invention, the handle may comprise a handle panel with an upper edge defined by the first cross section and a lower edge separated from the at least one side or end wall by the second cross section. The handle may optionally include a second handle panel adjacent to the first handle panel, which is joined together along a common end edge and is sandwiched between the panels forming the central support means and the inner partition. wherein the or all panels represent at least one of the end and side walls.

According to a further optional feature of this aspect of the invention, one or all of the handle panels may be connected to the end of the opposing walls.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The bottle transfer unit is comprised of a single sheet of rigid paper or other suitable foldable material and is adapted to accommodate six bottles in two rows, i. three bottles in each row. The blank includes a security panel 12, a first end panel 14. a first side panel 16, a second end panel 18, a third end panel 20, a second side panel 22, a fourth end panel 24, and a security panel 26. The panels are interconnected along bending lines 28, 30, 32. 34, 36, 38, and 40 .

The outer panel of the handle 42 adjoins the end panel 18 and the side panel 16. The handle panel 42 is separated from the side panel 16 by a cross-section 44 and from the end panel 18 by a cross-section 46. The handle panel 42 is connected to the first end panel 14 along one side edge of the handle panel 42 by an angled connecting portion 48. The cross-section 44 separates the connecting portion 48 from the side panel 16 to form a narrow portion adjacent the end panel 14. The end of this narrow portion is sufficient to maintain the connection between the handle panel 42 and the end panel 14 when working with the blank before by assembling and gluing.

The transverse panel 86 is pivotally connected to the partition panel 72 along the fold line 88. The second transverse panel 90 is pivotally connected to the partition panel 72 along the fold line 92.

The transverse panel 86 is separated from the panel by the cross-sections 94 and 96 which extend between the bend lines 86 and 92. The second transverse panel panel 90 is separated from the partition panel 72 by the cross-section 98a. the side edge of the partition panel 72.

The panel of the second partition 110 is connected to the handle panel 44 along the bend lines 112 and 11 14.
