Abstract

The solution concerns an industrial use of light amplification of stimulated emission of radiation for cutting, drilling, surface treatment and other operations on hard and resistant materials. For these purposes it is necessary to modulate the power laser beam with supplying the lowest possible acoustic output, with the highest possible diffraction efficiency. Then it is required that, with the exception of irreplaceable parasite phenomena, there would not be any absorption and scattering of the energy of the laser beam in its direction. The principle of the solution consists in the fact that the volume acoustic-optical unit (1) is made of monocrystal of lead dibromide (PbBr2) and the side surface (4) carrying the piezoelectric converter (5) is perpendicular to the crystallographic axis (b) in whose direction the acoustic wave is spreading at a speed of 680 m.sec<-1>.<IMAGE>
