Description
The invention relates to a process for removing cyanides from waste product suspensions, in particular after cyanide leaching of ores of precious metals of the oxidic type.
The waste product after cyanide leaching is separated from the cyanide liquor by sedimentation or filtration. This waste product always contains a cyanide solution and in some world treatment plants it is deposited in a tailing pond where the cyanides present are partially decomposed due to atmospheric conditions and the waste water with a reduced cyanide content is either directly discharged into the public watercourse or reagents.
The main drawback of this method is the risk of contamination of groundwater sources after the deposition of cyanide-containing wastes into the tailings pond, where toxic cyanides in the soluble phase may seep into the surroundings. From the point of view of ensuring ecological conditions in the place of implementation of cyanide leaching technology, it is necessary to ensure the removal of cyanides already in the technology process. According to the known and most commonly used method, cyanides are disposed of by two-stage chlorination, in which the cyanide compounds are converted to harmless simple compounds, i.e. elemental nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Alkali hypochlorite is most commonly used as the oxidizing agent, which is disadvantageous in terms of process economics, since the hypochlorite is produced in the form of a solution with an active chlorine concentration of no more than 15% by weight and consequently requires large volumes of water to be transported. Since the alkaline hypochlorite solution always contains alkaline chloride, the salinity of the waste water is increased by this method. In terms of technology, when using alkaline hypochlorite, the pH of the second stage of chlorination must be adjusted with additional acid, not only increases the cost of the technology, but also does not meet the stringent requirements of hygienists for handling cyanide solutions.
Tento způsob je sice ekonomičtější, ovšem při likvidaci kyanidů z odpadních produktů po kyanidovém loužení rud drahých kovů oxidického typu nelze dávko vat chlór přímo do suspenze, protože dochází k jeho úniku do ovzduší, což představuje vedle ztrát ekonomických i zamořeníAccording to another known method, cyanides are also removed in two stages, but with chlorine gas. While this method is more economical, when disposing of cyanides from waste products after cyanide leaching of ores of precious metals of the oxidic type, chlorine cannot be dosed directly into the slurry because it leaks into the air, which in addition to economic losses also contaminates
In order to remove the cyanides from the suspension, it is necessary to use a large amount of chlorine and adjust the mechanical and technological arrangement of its dosing so that it does not leak and the residual chlorine concentration in the system is minimal. Fulfilling this requirement in practice encounters a number of difficulties and is therefore abandoned in practice.
Poté probíhá samovolně druhý stupeň chlorace při pH 6,5 až 7,5.The above-mentioned disadvantages have no method of removing cyanides from waste product slurries, especially after cyanide leaching of ores of precious metals of the oxidic type, using a two-stage chlorination process. The essence of the invention is that chlorine gas is continuously introduced into the volume flow of water a chlorine content of 2 to 5 g / l, which is immediately fed to a predetermined quantity of a suspension of waste products of known cyanide content, with stirring, during this first stage of chlorination, the pH is maintained at a level not higher and oxidation of cyanides to cyanates occurs. The second stage of chlorination then proceeds spontaneously at pH 6.5 to 7.5.
Odpadá přeprava velkého množství roztoku alkalického chlornanu a dávkování kyseliny do suspenze. By using the process according to the invention, a greater efficiency of the reaction between chlorine and cyanides is achieved, with the residual chlorine concentration in the system being minimal. In this way, it is also possible to remove cyanides from thickened wastes or filter sludges after cyanide leaching. There is no leakage of chlorine into the atmosphere even when open reaction tanks are used. There is no need to transport large quantities of the alkaline hypochlorite solution and dispense the acid into the suspension. Nor is it necessary to address the problem of salinity of waste water. Operation of the method according to the invention is safe and, moreover, removes unpleasant chlorine odor in the workplace.
The method according to the invention is illustrated by the following example.
