Abstract

The pump comprises a housing 1 in which are mounted cylinder bushes 2 with pump pistons 6 which are provided with oblique control edges. Each bush 2 has a throughflow aperture 3 which is controlled by the control edge of the pump piston 6 and which extends parallel to the axis of a cam shaft (not shown) driving the fuel injection pump. A portion of the fuel suctioned by the pump piston flows back through the aperture 3 under high pressure into the fuel duct 4 in the pump housing. A cylindrical collar 5 is provided on the external periphery of the bush 2 at most one mm above the upper point of the throughflow aperture 3. The collar 5 deflects the flow of the fuel issuing at the aperture 3 and effects damping of the fuel jet whereby cavitation is prevented. In an alternative construction the collar 5 is angled towards the aperture 3. <IMAGE>
