Pro sekundární metalurgické procesy při zpracováhí oceli, litin nebo surových želez se doposud používaly odsiřující strusky obsahující kysličník vápenatý CaO v kombinaci s tavidlem. Přes svou ekonomickou výhodnost tyto strusky nemají schopnost odstraňovat další nežádoucí příměsí, jako olovo, cín, antimon apod.
