Abstract
The present invention relates to methods for segregating a dispersion having a continuous organic phase and a dispersed aqueous phase from a caprolactam production process, characterized in that electrostatic coalescence is applied to the dispersion in an electric field of not less than 500 volts per centimeter and at a frequency of not less than 5 Hz, where the formation of a separate aqueous layer is induced. It can additionally be characterized by: - using an electric field of not less than 1000 volts per centimeter - the frequency is not less than 20 Hz- the frequency is not more than 5OO Hz- the amount of the aqueous phase is not more than 5% by weight of the combined total liquid phases- the organic phase is benzene- the dispersed phase is water- dispersed phase contains up to 60% by weight of caprolactam - the dispersed phase contains between 0.1 and 5% by weight of ammonium sulfate.
