13. An external hanging salt box assembly as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 12 wherein the number of salt boxes (3) is two, symmetrically arranged along the central axis of the brine chamber (11).

A soft water heater comprising a water softening assembly and a water heating assembly, characterized by further comprising an externally hung salt tank assembly (100) as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 13, the externally hung salt tank assembly (100) being hung at the soft water heater (I) and connected to the water softening assembly to supply brine to the water softening assembly.
