Description

Apparatus for using gaming dice
The present invention relates to a device for using gaming dice (playing dice).
In particular, the present invention relates to an apparatus adapted to house and use digital dice for various entertainment activities.
As is known, the most common dice are made in the form of cubes, their respective faces being numbered from 1 to 6. However, the dice may have different polyhedral geometries, depending on the number (and numbering) of faces.
In addition to the ten-faced dice, the main shape is given by platonic solids (tetrahedra, cubes or hexahedrons, octahedra, dodecahedron and icosahedron) for its regularity in shape, guaranteeing equal probability of displaying any face.
The dice may be marked with numbers (in units and/or tens) or other graphical symbols.
However, the popularity of role-playing and board games expands the number and shape of dice that may be used simultaneously in the same game.
For example, in role playing games, a large number of dice are typically used, all having a particular shape according to the number of faces and being selected from time to time according to various possible requirements.
However, a large number of gaming dice have considerable disadvantages in terms of the practicality of using the dice themselves.
First of all, it should be noted that the use of a series of dice, also made in small sizes, presents difficulties for the containing and transport operations, in which it is necessary to provide elements for containing the pieces (nut), such as boxes or bags.
In this case, the dice are removed from the box one at a time during the game and are returned to the box immediately after use to avoid loss of the dice themselves.
This operation is laborious, especially during games that require continuous access to the box, which determines a continuous interruption of the game itself.
Furthermore, as mentioned above, the dice are small in size and therefore easy to remove if they are not always repositioned in the respective containing elements.
Another important disadvantage is the need to provide a surface suitable for rolling the dice. In this case, it is not possible to use dice without a smooth surface like a table.
Thus, the ability to play the board or role playing game described above outdoors, on a vehicle or generally in any environment without a suitable surface is precluded.
The object of the present invention is therefore to overcome the above-mentioned drawbacks.
In particular, a first object of the utility model is to provide a device for using gaming dice, which is able to contain and hold all necessary dice even when using gaming dice.
It is a further object of the utility model to provide an apparatus for using gaming dice that is simple in construction, low in cost and easy to use.
It is a further object of the utility model to provide a device which is versatile and can be used for any number and type of gaming dice, regardless of the environment in which the dice are used.
In view of these objects, the present invention provides an apparatus for using gaming dice, characterized by the features of a part of the subject-matter of claim 1.
Further advantageous features are described in the dependent claims.
All claims are deemed to be fully descriptive.
The utility model will become more apparent from the following detailed description, given by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
figures 1 and 2 show perspective views of respective opposite corners of an apparatus for playing dice according to the utility model;
figure 3 shows a perspective view of the device according to the utility model in a corresponding non-use condition;
FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional side view of the apparatus of FIG. 3;
fig. 5a and 5b show perspective and exploded views of two respective embodiments of the device of fig. 3; and
figures 6a and 6b show, in perspective view and side view, respectively, different types of gaming dice that can be used in the device according to the utility model.
Referring to the drawings, reference numeral 1 generally indicates a device for using a gaming dice "D".
It should be noted that the device 1 has particular application to any type of die "D", regardless of its shape and number of faces.
As shown in fig. 6a and 6b, the device 1 can be used, by way of non-limiting example only, for six types of gaming dice, having the shape of an icosahedron, a dodecahedron, a decahedron, a cuboctahedron and a tetrahedron, respectively.
All dice "D" may be inscribed within the same diameter spherical volume "S", as shown by the dashed lines in FIG. 6 b.
In other words, the dice "D" preferably have substantially the same volume size as each other.
With particular reference to figures 1 to 3, the apparatus 1 comprises a body 2 provided with a plurality of chambers 3, each chamber 3 being configured to house a respective die "D".
The body 2 is arranged inside a housing compartment 5 defined by a box-like element 4. In this case, the body 2 constitutes the "core" of the device 1, while the box-like element 4 acts as the "shell" of the aforesaid body 2.
In more detail, it should be noted that the box-like elements 4 are advantageously made at least partially of transparent material, so as to visually inspect the interior of each chamber 3 suitable for housing the respective dice "D". In this way, each die "D" housed inside the box-like element 4 can be seen.
Preferably, the box-like element 4 has a polyhedral conformation equipped with a series of transparent faces 6 (for example made of plastic or glass material). In this case, the body 2 has a number of chambers 3 equal to the number of faces 6 of the box-like element 4. Furthermore, each chamber 3 is placed at a respective face 6 of the box-like element 4.
Likewise, the body 2 also has a polyhedral configuration, and each chamber 3 is obtained at a respective face.
Advantageously, according to a preferred but non-limiting embodiment of the present invention, both the box-like element 4 and the body 2 have a cubic configuration. In this case, six faces 6 of the box-like element 4 and therefore six chambers 3 of the body 2 are defined.
It should be noted, however, that the shape of the device 1, and therefore the number of faces 6 and cavities 3, may be any according to the specific use requirements.
As better shown in the views of fig. 3 and 4, in which the device 1 does not have the die "D", each chamber 3 has a truncated pyramid configuration substantially based on a square.
In particular, the body 2 has a central core 7, the central core 7 having a cubic configuration and wherein each face constitutes a minor surface 8 of the truncated-pyramid chamber 3.
Thus, the minor face 8 of each chamber 3 has a plane of rest for a respective die "D" which is rolled in the chamber 3 against the respective face.
On the opposite side to the minor surface 8, a main surface 9 is formed, which main surface 9 is obtained in the box-like element 4 and is made of the aforementioned transparent material. In other words, the main surface 9 is constituted by the face 6 of the box-like element. Preferably, each face 6 also has a frame 10, which frame 10 is made of an opaque material and is intended to house a transparent material.
Furthermore, each chamber 3 has four inclined lateral surfaces 11, each extending from a respective edge of the central core 7 to an edge of the box-like element 4.
In this way, the side surface 11 converges from the main surface 9 towards the minor surface 8.
Advantageously, with reference to figures 5a and 5b, the box-like element comprises a first portion 12 and a second portion 13, the first portion 12 and the second portion 13 being switchable between a mutually coupled condition, in which they house the body 2, and a separated condition, in which they allow the extraction/insertion of the body 2 from/into the compartment 5. In other words, the box-like element 2 can be opened, separating the two portions 12, 13, to remove the body 2 and replace the dice "D".
According to a first embodiment variant of fig. 5a, the portions 12, 13 of the box-like element (4) are respectively configured "C" shaped and have peripheral edges 12a, 13a which can be mutually engaged by a mechanical interference fit (mechanical interference) to define the above-mentioned mutual coupling condition.
In this solution, the parts are identical and can be fitted to each other around the body 2.
Alternatively, according to the second embodiment of fig. 5b, the first portion 12 has a cubic configuration, with the face 6a open to access the interior of the aforesaid compartment 5.
In this solution, the second portion 13 is in the shape of a flat sheet for coupling to the first portion 12 to close said open face 6 a. In other words, the second portion 13 is defined by the face 6 of the box-like element 4, which face 6 can be coupled by mechanical interlocking into the open face 6a of the first portion 12.
Advantageously, according to an embodiment variant not shown, the second portion 13 and the first portion 12 can be made in one piece and connected to each other by a common side.
In this case, the common side defines a hinge for moving the second portion 13 towards/away from the first portion 12 and defining the open and closed configurations of the box-like element 4.
In use, once the dice "D" have been inserted into the respective chambers 3 (fig. 1 and 2), it is possible to house the dice "D" and use the dice "D" simultaneously.
In fact, by manually holding the device 1, it is possible to position the faces 6 of the chamber 3, with the selected dice "D" housed upwards.
In this way, after the rolling phase in the chamber 3, the respective dice "D" fall from the side surfaces 11 towards the secondary surfaces 8, where the dice "D" are located with the respective visible faces, with the numerical references (or other symbols shown on the dice faces) indicated, at the secondary surfaces 8.
The same procedure is performed for each of the dice "D" that must be used, thus positioning the corresponding face 6 upwards.
It should be noted that advantageously the dice "D" are never taken out of the device 1 during their use. Thus, the apparatus 1 allows dice "D" to be collected for transport, while using the dice "D" during the game, without having to take them out of the respective compartments 3.
In this way, the speed of the whole game session is increased while avoiding the possible loss of dice "D", even if the dice are small.
Furthermore, the minor surface 8 given by the central core 7 of cubic shape always guarantees the presence of a horizontal surface on which the dice "D" can be thrown. The device 1 thus allows the use of different dice "D" in any environment, making the use of the device 1 itself particularly versatile.
As will be immediately appreciated by those skilled in the art, the present invention advantageously achieves the above-listed objects by addressing the shortcomings known in the art.
Naturally, in practice, many variations may be made to what has been described and illustrated, purely by way of non-limiting example, without thereby departing from the scope of protection of the present invention, and therefore of the present industrial property right.
