Description

Adapter for arranging a water outlet nozzle in an end piece that can be screwed onto a water tap, and assembly comprising such an adapter and a water outlet nozzle
Technical Field
The invention relates to an adapter for arranging a water outlet nozzle in an end piece that can be screwed onto a water tap, and to an assembly comprising such an adapter and a water outlet nozzle that is at least partially received in the adapter.
Background
On most water faucets, the end piece is screwed onto the outlet of the faucet, especially onto a water faucet used in the kitchen. For this purpose, the tap has an external thread and the end piece has an internal thread. A screen and/or a so-called aerator is usually received in the end piece. To this end, the end piece has at least one shoulder or step and at least one seal is also provided, which is referred to as raw seal in the following.
It is known to insert water-saving outlet nozzles in the end piece instead of the aerator. The water-saving outlet nozzle may also project from the end piece.
Since such outlet nozzles usually have a relatively small outer diameter, an adapter and an additional seal in the form of a coated metal ring are required. Such coated metal rings are relatively expensive to manufacture and have the further disadvantage of being easily lost in the uninstalled state.
SUMMERY OF THE UTILITY MODEL
Based on this, it was an object of the invention to provide an improved adapter.
This object is achieved by an adapter having the following features. An assembly is presented herein that includes such an adapter and a water outlet nozzle at least partially received in the adapter.
The adapter has a base body and, according to the invention, a sealing surface extends from an upper end of the base body, and the seal has an outer surface section which rests on the sealing surface, whereby a lower section of the seal is within the base body. Preferably, the sealing surface extends conically from the upper end, whereby the outer surface section abutting the sealing surface is also conical. The seal thus has an upper section above the base body and a lower section below the upper end of the base body. Thus, in the mounted state, the seal will surround the flange of the water nozzle, and a separate seal can be dispensed with.
To support this enclosure, the sealing element preferably has a cylindrical lower inner surface section in the lower region of its through-opening, and the diameter of the through-opening is greater in the lower region than in the region merging upwards therefrom.
In order to exclude the possibility of the seal being lost and to simplify the installation, the seal is preferably connected to the base body, whereby it can be achieved in particular that the seal is injection-molded onto the base body.
In order to achieve a defined support for the flange of the outlet nozzle, it is further preferred that the annular support surfaces meet at the lower end of the sealing surface of the base body, which support surface is preferably at least partially not covered by the seal.
Further preferred details of design and other advantages are apparent from the following description of preferred examples of embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Drawings
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to preferred examples of embodiments associated with the accompanying drawings. In the drawings:
fig. 1 shows an exploded view of a tap, with an end piece screwed onto its outlet,
fig. 2 shows a cross-sectional view of an end piece according to the prior art screwed onto a tap, in which tap an adapter is arranged, which adapter has a water outlet nozzle,
fig. 3 shows a seal, which is part of an adapter created according to the invention,
fig. 4a shows a partially cut-away perspective view of an end piece in which an adapter created according to the invention is received, the outlet nozzle being held by the adapter and the original seal, and
fig. 4b shows a part of fig. 4a, wherein the end piece has been screwed onto the water tap.
Detailed Description
Terms such as "upper" and "lower" are used in this specification. They refer to the geometrical situation that prevails after mounting the adapter and the water outlet nozzle at the water tap, if water flows as usual from above through the water outlet nozzle downwards.
For a better understanding of the invention creation, the prior art will now be described first with reference to fig. 2.
Fig. 2 shows a cross-section of the outlet end of the faucet 40, with the end piece 42 screwed onto the faucet. The adapter 5, which rests on a projection (not shown since fig. 2 is a cutting plane) of the end piece 42, has a water outlet nozzle 30. The outlet nozzle 30 has a flange 32 which rests on a step of the adapter. The outlet nozzle 30 has a relatively small diameter compared to the end piece 42, which means that the original seal 45 is not sufficient to ensure sealing. Thus, a metal ring 48 coated with sealing material is provided, which forms a further seal and which is placed between the original seal 45 and the adapter 5. The further seal also serves for length compensation in the axial direction. Since the metal ring 48 must transmit a relatively large force to perform its function, it is generally not possible to replace it with a plastic ring.
With reference to fig. 1, 3, 4a and 4b, the adapter created according to the invention and its arrangement in the end piece, which does not require the use of a coated metal ring as an additional seal, which is necessary according to the prior art, will now be described.
All components of the entire system (tap 40, end piece 42, original seal 45, adapter 5 and outlet nozzle 30) are shown in fig. 1. Inventive details of the adapter 5 will now be described with reference to fig. 3, 4a and 4 b.
The adapter 5 must have its own seal 20, which is preferably (preferably permanently) connected to the body 10 of the adapter 5. For this purpose the seal 20 may be glued to the adapter 5, but it is preferably injection moulded to a body, preferably made of plastic. This means that the adapter comprises a base body 10 and a sealing element 20, wherein the main body is preferably made of a hard (non-elastic) plastic and the sealing element is made of a soft material, such as a thermoplastic elastomer. Each of the base 10 and the seal 20 has a through hole. The base 10 will be described first.
The base body 10 extends downwardly from an upper end, i.e., upper end surface 13. In the shown example of embodiment, the end surface 13 is a part of a flange 12 from which a main section 14 of the basic body extends downwards. The entire substrate 10 is rotationally symmetrical about an axis. As shown particularly clearly in fig. 4a, the conical sealing surface 15 extends from the upper end, i.e. from the upper end surface 13, to the support surface 16. The support surface 16 defines a plane which is perpendicular to the axis of the base body 10 and parallel to the upper end surface 13.
The sealing element 20 of the adapter 5 has an outer surface section 24, which outer surface section 24 is formed such that it rests on the sealing surface 15 of the base body 10 (this is automatic if the sealing element 20 is injection molded to the base body 10). As further shown, in particular in fig. 4a, the seal 20 has an upper section 21 above the end surface 13 of the base body 10 and a lower section 22 below said end surface 13. A lower inner surface section 25 is located substantially above the outer surface section 24, which lower inner surface section 25 preferably defines a constant inner diameter of the seal 20 in this region. Above said lower inner surface section 25, the inner diameter of the seal 20 decreases to some extent. As shown, the inner surface may again be slightly conically widened towards the upper end of the seal 20.
As shown in fig. 4a, the sealing member 20 does not completely cover the support surface 16 of the base body 10; there is an inner region formed as an annular disc which is not covered by the seal 20.
The outlet nozzle 30 has a flange 32, the outer diameter of which substantially corresponds to the inner diameter of the seal 20 in the region of the lower inner surface section 25. Furthermore, the height of the flange 32 of the outlet nozzle 30 in the axial direction substantially corresponds to the height of said lower inner surface section 25 in the axial direction. The geometry shown in fig. 4a is thus achieved after the outlet nozzle 30 has been inserted into the adapter 5.
The flange 32 of the outlet nozzle 30 is placed on the section of the support surface 16 not covered by the seal, and the lower section 32 of the seal 20 is placed between the outer surface of said flange 32 and the sealing surface 15 of the basic body 10. The upper section 21 of the seal 20 extends above the end surface 13 and above the flange 32, and this upper section 21 surrounds the flange 32 to some extent on the upper side.
The water outlet nozzle 30 is installed as follows.
The water outlet nozzle is first inserted into the adapter 5 from above until the flange 32 of the water outlet nozzle 30 rests on the support surface 16 and the upper end of the flange is surrounded by a seal. The subassembly consisting of adapter 5 and water outlet nozzle 30 is then inserted into end piece 42 from above until flange 12 of base body 10 of adapter 5 rests on the shoulder of the end piece. The original seal 45 is then placed over the seal 20 of the adapter 5. In this case, the end piece 42 is screwed onto the tap 40, so that the original seal 45 is pressed against the seal 20, whereby this seal 20 will be slightly deformed. In view of the above-mentioned geometry, the seal 20 will be pressed from above and from the side against the flange 32 of the outlet nozzle, so that a complete seal is achieved.
