In this embodiment, two housings (e.g., the first housing 20 and the second housing 30) are provided for storing items (not shown) therein. It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the number of housings in the storage device 100 is increased for holding items and more utility space therein.
The storage space of at least one housing 20 or 30 is provided adjacent to the shroud 40 and forward of the cluster display 50 toward the occupants of the vehicle interior. The shroud 40 covers the cluster display 50 inside the vehicle.
The hood 40 is movably disposed on the instrument panel 200. In this embodiment, the shield 40 is arcuate. The shroud 40 covers the cluster display 50 inside the vehicle. Further, the shield 40 moves between the first position 100a and the second position 100 b.
Specifically, in the first position 100a, the shroud 40 opens both housings 20 and 30. When the shield 40 is in the first position 100a, a user may access the housings 20 and 30 to retain an item therein. After the items are retained within the housings 20 and 30, the housing 40 may be moved (slid) to the second position 100b to close the housing 20 or 30 by sliding the housing 40 toward the occupant of the vehicle interior, as shown in fig. 2.
The shield 40 can be moved (slid) between the first position to the second position 100b by applying an external force thereto. The external force may be applied manually or by a prime mover (not shown) controlled by an interface (not shown). When the shield 40 is in the second position 100b, the shield closes the openings 22 and 32 of the housings 20 and 30, thereby restricting access to the housings 20 and 30 by a user. Further, the hood 40 is provided with a restricting member (not shown) for restricting the hood 40 from further moving outward beyond the second position 100b toward the occupant inside the vehicle. The shield 40 may include a handle (not shown) for operating and moving the shield 40.
