The hold-down device of claim 1, wherein the traverse screw mechanism comprises a first screw guide assembly and a first motion block coupled to the first screw guide assembly that slides along a first guide bar, the hold-down screw mechanism comprises a second screw guide assembly and a second motion block coupled to the second screw guide assembly that slides along a second guide bar, the hold-down screw mechanism is fixedly attached to the first motion block, and the platen mechanism is fixedly attached to the second motion block.

The hold-down apparatus of claim 2, wherein the control device is configured to control the traverse screw mechanism to operate to laterally move the first motion block to a predetermined horizontal position, to control the hold-down screw mechanism to operate to move the second motion block downward to cause the hold-down plate to contact the hold-down knob, and to control the hold-down screw mechanism to operate in reverse to move the second motion block and the hold-down plate mechanism upward to reset.

The hold-down device of claim 4, wherein the control device is configured to stop operation of the traverse screw mechanism and simultaneously start operation of the hold-down screw mechanism in response to a first signal received from the horizontal limit sensor, and stop operation of the hold-down screw mechanism in response to a second signal received from the vertical limit sensor.
6. The hold-down device of claim 5, wherein the first signal is triggered when a first catch included on the first motion block obstructs the horizontal limit sensor, and the second signal is triggered when a second catch included on the second motion block obstructs the vertical limit sensor.
7. A hold-down device according to claim 3, wherein the platen mechanism further comprises a handle return member, wherein the handle return member returns the handle upward when the platen mechanism moves upward.
8. A hold-down device as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein the control means comprises an electronic control board for receiving master commands and sensor signals to control operation of the hold-down device, a first driver for driving a traverse screw mechanism and a second driver for driving a hold-down screw mechanism.
