It may be evident, however, that one or more embodiments may be practiced without these specific details.
It will be understood that, although the terms first, second, etc. may be used herein to describe various elements, these elements should not be limited by these terms. These terms are only used to distinguish one element from another. For example, a first element could be termed a second element, and, similarly, a second element could be termed a first element, without departing from the scope of example embodiments. The term "and/or" as used herein includes any and all combinations of one or more of the associated listed items.
It will be understood that when an element or layer is referred to as being "formed on" another element or layer, it can be directly or indirectly formed on the other element or layer. That is, for example, intermediate elements or layers may be present. In contrast, when an element or layer is referred to as being "directly formed on" another element or layer, there are no intervening elements or layers present. Other words used to describe the relationship between elements or layers (e.g., "between" and "directly between …," "adjacent" and "directly adjacent," etc.) should be interpreted in a similar manner.
The terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting of example embodiments. As used herein, the singular is intended to include the plural unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. It will be further understood that the terms "comprises" and/or "comprising," when used herein, specify the presence of stated features, integers, steps, operations, elements, and/or components, but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, integers, steps, operations, elements, components, and/or groups thereof.
In this context, the expression "thickness" refers to the dimension of a layer or component in a direction perpendicular to the upper surface of the substrate (in the state of use, the upper surface of the substrate is the surface facing the user), unless otherwise specified.
Fig. 1 is a schematic plan view of a dimming panel according to some exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure, and fig. 2 is a sectional view of the dimming panel according to some exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure taken along line AA' in fig. 1.
Referring to fig. 1 and 2 in combination, the dimming panel 10 may include first and second dimming substrates 1 and 2 disposed opposite to each other, and a liquid crystal layer 3 interposed between the first and second dimming substrates 1 and 2.
The first dimming substrate 1 may include a first substrate 11, a first electrode 12, a first insulating layer 13, and a first alignment layer 14. The first electrode 12, the first insulating layer 13, and the first alignment layer 14 are sequentially disposed on the first base substrate 11.
The second dimming substrate 2 may include a second substrate 21, a second electrode 22, and a second alignment layer 24. The second electrode 22 and the second alignment layer 24 are sequentially disposed on the second base substrate 21.
For example, the first substrate 11 and the second substrate 21 may be transparent glass substrates, and in this case, the light control panel 10 may also be referred to as light control glass. For example, the dimming panel 10 can be applied to the fields of building, traffic, interior decoration design, and the like, so as to switch between a transparent state and a non-transparent state (e.g., a dark state or a fog state).
For example, the first electrode 12 and the second electrode 22 may be transparent electrodes, respectively, and for example, they may be composed of a transparent conductive material such as Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) or the like.
In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the liquid crystal layer 3 may include dye liquid crystal, and particularly, the liquid crystal layer 3 may include liquid crystal molecules and color dye molecules mixed with the liquid crystal molecules. For example, the dichroic dye molecules can be dichroic dye molecules.
In the dimming panel provided by the embodiment of the present disclosure, when no voltage is applied to the first electrode 12 and the second electrode 22, no electric field is generated between the first electrode 12 and the second electrode 22, and both the liquid crystal molecules and the color dye molecules in the liquid crystal layer 3 are vertically aligned without absorbing light, so that the dimming panel is in a light-transmitting state (i.e., a transparent state). When a predetermined voltage is applied to the first electrode 12 and the second electrode 22, an electric field is generated between the first electrode 12 and the second electrode 22, liquid crystal molecules and color dye molecules in the liquid crystal layer 3 are deflected, the liquid crystal molecules are horizontally arranged under the action of the electric field, and the color dye molecules are induced to be horizontally arranged to play a role of light absorption, so that the dimming panel is in a non-transparent state (i.e., a dark state).
In the above embodiments, the dimming panel provided in the embodiments of the present disclosure is described by taking dye liquid crystal as an example, and it should be understood that the dimming panel provided in the embodiments of the present disclosure may also include other types of liquid crystal, including but not limited to polymer dispersed liquid crystal (abbreviated as PD L C).
Fig. 3 and 4 are schematic plan views of a first dimming substrate and a second dimming substrate of a dimming panel according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, respectively.
Referring to fig. 1 to 4 in combination, the first electrode 12 included in the first dimming substrate 1 includes a plurality of electrode bars 121, and the plurality of electrode bars 121 are arranged on the first substrate 11 at intervals. That is, the orthographic projection of the first electrode 12 on the first substrate 11 is formed in a plurality of stripe shapes distributed at intervals. It should be understood that each electrode stripe 121 is a transparent electrode stripe, for example, each electrode stripe 121 is composed of a transparent conductive material such as ITO.
Referring to fig. 1 and 3, the dimming panel 10 may further include a plurality of traces 15 disposed on the first substrate 11. Illustratively, the plurality of traces 15 may correspond to the plurality of electrode bars 121 one to one, respectively. For example, each trace 15 may be a conductive trace of conductive material.
Referring to fig. 1 and 3, the dimming panel 10 may further include a driving circuit 16, such as an IC, for providing a control signal (e.g., a voltage signal). Specifically, the plurality of traces 15 may electrically connect the corresponding electrode bars 121 to the driving circuit 16, for example, an IC, respectively, so that the control signals provided by the driving circuit 16 may be supplied to the plurality of electrode bars 121, respectively.
The second dimming substrate 2 may include the second electrode 22 which is a planar electrode, that is, the orthographic projection of the second electrode 22 on the second substrate 21 is formed in a shape of a continuously distributed planar pattern, for example, in the embodiment of fig. 4, the orthographic projection of the second electrode 22 on the second substrate 21 is formed in a complete rectangle.
Exemplarily, as shown in fig. 1, an orthographic projection of the first electrode 12 on the first substrate 11 falls within an orthographic projection of the second electrode 22 on the first substrate 11.
It should be understood that the second electrode 22 may also be electrically connected to the driving circuit 16, e.g., an IC, through a conductive structure (to be described in detail later), so that a control signal provided by the driving circuit 16 may be supplied to the second electrode 22.
In the dimming panel provided by the embodiment of the present disclosure, the driving circuit 16 may supply a first control signal to one or more of the plurality of electrode bars 121 and a second control signal to the second electrode 22 to generate an electric field between the one or more of the plurality of electrode bars 121 and the second electrode 22, such that a portion corresponding to the one or more electrode bars 121 supplied with the first control signal is in a non-transparent state and other portions of the dimming panel are in a transparent state. In this way, when the dimming panel is used as a dimming glass, a display effect similar to "blinds" can be achieved.
Fig. 5 is a schematic plan view of a dimming panel according to some exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure, and fig. 6 is a sectional view of the dimming panel according to some exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure taken along a line BB' in fig. 5. It should be noted that some of the structures of the embodiments illustrated in fig. 5-6 may be referred to as described above with respect to fig. 1-4, and that the same or similar components or structures are referred to using the same reference numerals.
Referring to fig. 5 and 6 in combination, the dimming panel 10 may include first and second dimming substrates 1 and 2 disposed opposite to each other, and a liquid crystal layer 3 interposed between the first and second dimming substrates 1 and 2.
The first dimming substrate 1 may include a first substrate 11, a first electrode 32, a first insulating layer 13, a second insulating layer 17, and a first alignment layer 14.
The second dimming substrate 2 may include a second substrate 21, a second electrode 22, and a second alignment layer 24. The second electrode 22 and the second alignment layer 24 are sequentially disposed on the second base substrate 21.
For example, the first electrode 32 and the second electrode 22 may be transparent electrodes, respectively, and for example, they may be composed of a transparent conductive material such as Indium Tin Oxide (ITO), zinc tin oxide (IZO), or the like.
Fig. 7 and 8 are schematic plan views of a first dimming substrate and a second dimming substrate of a dimming panel according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, respectively.
With combined reference to fig. 5-8, the first electrode 32 included in the first dimming substrate 1 includes a plurality of first electrode stripes 321 and a plurality of second electrode stripes 322, the plurality of first electrode stripes 321 are located in the same layer, and the plurality of second electrode stripes 322 are located in the same layer, for convenience of description, the layer where the plurality of first electrode stripes 321 are located is referred to as a first electrode layer 321L, and the layer where the plurality of second electrode stripes 322 are located is referred to as a second electrode layer 322L, referring to fig. 5, the first electrode layer 321L and the second electrode layer 322L are different layers and are separated by a first insulating layer 13, specifically, the first electrode layer 321L is disposed on the first substrate 11, the first insulating layer 13 is disposed on a side of the first electrode layer 321L away from the first substrate 11, the second electrode layer 322L is disposed on a side of the first insulating layer 13 away from the first substrate 11, and the second insulating layer 17 is disposed on a side of the second electrode layer 322 64 away from the first substrate 3911.
The first insulating layer 13 is disposed between the first electrode layer 321L and the second electrode layer 322L, and can perform planarization and insulation functions, for example, the first insulating layer 13 can be made of silicon nitride or silicon oxide or other transparent insulating materials.
The plurality of first electrode bars 321 in the first electrode layer 321L are arranged in parallel and spaced apart from each other, that is, the first electrode layer 321L includes a plurality of first electrode bars 321 and a plurality of first gaps 321G, and each of the plurality of first gaps 321G is located between two adjacent first electrode bars 321.
In the embodiment shown in fig. 5 and 6, a plurality of first electrode stripes 321 are arranged at intervals in the first direction (X direction in the drawing), and each first electrode stripe 321 extends in the second direction (direction perpendicular to the paper surface in fig. 6). In the illustrated embodiment, the first direction and the second direction are perpendicular to each other.
The plurality of second electrode bars 322 in the second electrode layer 322L are arranged in parallel and spaced apart from each other, i.e., the second electrode layer 322L includes a plurality of second electrode bars 322 and a plurality of second gaps 322G, each of the plurality of second gaps 322G is located between two adjacent second electrode bars 322. thus, the plurality of second electrode bars 322 are electrically isolated from each other.
In the embodiment shown in fig. 5 and 6, a plurality of second electrode stripes 322 are arranged at intervals in the first direction (X direction in the drawing), and each second electrode stripe 322 extends in the second direction (direction perpendicular to the paper surface in fig. 6).
In the embodiment of the present disclosure, the plurality of first electrode stripes 321 and the plurality of second electrode stripes 322 form a complementary relationship, that is, an orthographic projection of the combination of the plurality of first electrode stripes 321 and the plurality of second electrode stripes 322 on the first substrate base plate 11 forms a complete plane without gaps. Herein, the expression "perfect plane without gaps" means that the orthographic projection of the combination of the plurality of first electrode stripes 321 and the plurality of second electrode stripes 322 on the first substrate base plate 11 does not have any gaps or voids, i.e. is seamless. In other words, the orthographic projection of the combination of the plurality of first electrode stripes 321 and the plurality of second electrode stripes 322 on the first substrate 11 may completely cover the orthographic projection of the liquid crystal layer 3 sandwiched between the first electrode 32 and the second electrode 22 on the first substrate 11.
Alternatively, the plurality of first electrode bars 321 corresponds to the plurality of second gaps 322G one to one. An orthographic projection of each first electrode bar 321 on the first substrate 11 coincides with an orthographic projection of the second gap 322G corresponding to the first electrode bar 321 on the first substrate 11. The plurality of second electrode bars 322 correspond to the plurality of first gaps 321G one to one. The orthographic projection of each second electrode bar 322 on the first substrate 11 coincides with the orthographic projection of the first gap 321G corresponding to the second electrode bar 322 on the first substrate 11.
In other words, the size of any one of the first electrode bars 321 in the first direction (X direction in fig. 6) is equal to the size of its corresponding second gap 322G in the first direction. For example, the size of each first electrode bar 321 along the first direction is equal, and the size may be denoted as W1; each of the second gaps 322G has an equal dimension along the first direction, which may be denoted as W3, and in some exemplary embodiments, W1 ═ W3. The dimension of any one of the second electrode stripes 322 in the first direction is equal to the dimension of its corresponding first gap 321G in the first direction. For example, the dimension of each second electrode stripe 322 along the first direction is equal, and the dimension may be denoted as W2; the first gaps 321G each have an equal dimension along the first direction, which may be denoted as W4, and in some exemplary embodiments, W2 is W4. For another example, a size of any one of the first electrode bars 321 in the first direction may be equal to a size of each one of the second electrode bars 322 in the first direction, that is, W1 — W2.
More specifically, the side of the first electrode stripe 321 adjacent to its adjacent second electrode stripe 322 and the side of the second electrode stripe 322 adjacent to its adjacent first electrode stripe 321 coincide with each other. For example, as shown in fig. 9, the first electrode bars 321 have a first side 321A adjacent to one second electrode bar 322 and a second side 321B adjacent to the other second electrode bar 322. One second electrode stripe 322 adjacent to the first electrode stripe 321 has a third side 322A adjacent to the first electrode stripe 321, and the other second electrode stripe 322 adjacent to the first electrode stripe has a fourth side 322B adjacent to the first electrode stripe. The first side 321A is aligned with the third side 322A, and the second side 321B is aligned with the fourth side 322B. That is, an orthographic projection of the first side 321A on the first substrate base 11 coincides with an orthographic projection of the third side 322A on the first substrate base 11, and an orthographic projection of the second side 321B on the first substrate base 11 coincides with an orthographic projection of the fourth side 322B on the first substrate base 11.
Referring to fig. 5 and 7, the dimming panel 10 may further include a driving circuit 16, such as an IC, for providing a control signal (e.g., a voltage signal). Specifically, the plurality of traces 15 may electrically connect the corresponding electrode bars 321, 322 to the driving circuit 16, such as an IC, respectively, so that the control signal provided by the driving circuit 16 may be supplied to the plurality of electrode bars 321, 322, respectively.
The second electrode 22 included in the second light modulation substrate 2 may be a planar electrode.
Exemplarily, as shown in fig. 5, an orthographic projection of the first electrode 32 on the first substrate 11 falls within an orthographic projection of the second electrode 22 on the first substrate 11. That is, the orthographic projection of the combination of the first electrode stripes 321 and the second electrode stripes 322 on the first substrate 11 falls within the orthographic projection of the second electrode 22 on the first substrate 11.
It should be understood that the second electrode 22 may also be electrically connected to the driving circuit 16, e.g., an IC, through a conductive structure (to be described in detail later), so that a control signal provided by the driving circuit 16 may be supplied to the second electrode 22.
In the dimming panel provided by the embodiment of the present disclosure, the driving circuit 16 may supply a first control signal to one or more of the plurality of electrode bars 321, 322 and supply a second control signal to the second electrode 22 to generate an electric field between the one or more of the electrode bars 321, 322 and the second electrode 22, so that a portion corresponding to the one or more electrode bars 321, 322 supplied with the first control signal is in a non-transparent state, and other portions of the dimming panel are in a transparent state. In this way, when the dimming panel is used as a dimming glass, a display effect similar to "blinds" can be achieved. Moreover, in the dimming panel provided by the embodiment of the present disclosure, there is no gap between the plurality of electrode bars included in the first electrode, that is, the plurality of electrode bars are closely distributed, so that it is ensured that the dimming panel has no light leakage in the non-transparent state, and the shape of the electrode bars is not displayed in the transparent state, so that the dimming panel as a whole exhibits a uniform bright state effect. Thus, when the dimming panel is used as the dimming glass, the overall appearance of the dimming glass can be improved.
In addition, in the above embodiment, the side of the first electrode bar 321 close to the second electrode bar 322 adjacent to it and the side of the second electrode bar 322 close to the first electrode bar 321 adjacent to it coincide with each other, so as to minimize the interference of the electrical signals between the first electrode bar and the second electrode bar, and facilitate the formation of the electric field by the cooperation of the first electrode bar and the second electrode bar.
Alternatively, in an embodiment of the present disclosure, referring to fig. 10, an edge portion of the first electrode stripe 321 near the second electrode stripe 322 adjacent thereto may overlap an edge portion of the second electrode stripe 322 near the first electrode stripe 321 adjacent thereto, that is, there is a certain overlapping area therebetween.
Referring to fig. 6 and 10 in combination, the plurality of first electrode bars 321 correspond to the plurality of second gaps 322G one to one. The orthographic projection of each first electrode bar 321 on the first substrate 11 covers the orthographic projection of the second gap 322G corresponding to the first electrode bar 321 on the first substrate 11, that is, the area of the orthographic projection of each first electrode bar 321 on the first substrate 11 is larger than the area of the orthographic projection of the second gap 322G corresponding to the first electrode bar 321 on the first substrate 11. The plurality of second electrode bars 322 correspond to the plurality of first gaps 321G one to one. The orthographic projection of each second electrode bar 322 on the first substrate 11 covers the orthographic projection of the first gap 321G corresponding to the second electrode bar 322 on the first substrate 11, that is, the area of the orthographic projection of each second electrode bar 322 on the first substrate 11 is larger than the area of the orthographic projection of the first gap 321G corresponding to the second electrode bar 322 on the first substrate 11.
In other words, the size of any one of the first electrode bars 321 in the first direction (X direction in fig. 10) is larger than the size of its corresponding second gap 322G in the first direction. For example, the size of each first electrode bar 321 along the first direction is equal, and the size may be denoted as W1; the second gaps 322G each have an equal dimension along the first direction, which may be designated as W3, in some exemplary embodiments, W1 > W3. The dimension of any one of the second electrode stripes 322 in the first direction is larger than the dimension of its corresponding first gap 321G in the first direction. For example, the dimension of each second electrode stripe 322 along the first direction is equal, and the dimension may be denoted as W2; the first gaps 321G each have an equal dimension along the first direction, which may be denoted as W4, and in some exemplary embodiments, W2 > W4. For another example, a size of any one of the first electrode bars 321 in the first direction may be equal to a size of each one of the second electrode bars 322 in the first direction, that is, W1 — W2. The dimension of each first gap 321G in the first direction is equal to the dimension of each second gap 322G in the first direction, i.e., W3-W4.
In this embodiment, the orthographic projection of the combination of the plurality of first electrode stripes 321 and the plurality of second electrode stripes 322 on the first substrate 11 may still form a complete plane, i.e., the orthographic projection of the combination of the plurality of first electrode stripes 321 and the plurality of second electrode stripes 322 on the first substrate 11 does not have any gap (i.e., is seamless). Therefore, the light-dimming panel is ensured not to leak light in the non-transparent state, and the shape of the electrode strips is not displayed in the transparent state, so that the whole light-dimming panel is represented as a whole bright-state uniform effect. In addition, the edge parts of the first electrode strips and the second electrode strips can be mutually overlapped, and the implementation of an actual processing technology is facilitated.
For example, the orthographic projection of the first electrode stripes 321 on the first substrate 11 may overlap with the orthographic projection of the second electrode stripes 322 on the first substrate 11, and as shown in fig. 10, the overlapping area may be referred to as an area OP. The size of the overlapping area OP in the first direction (e.g., the size in the X direction in fig. 10) may be one tenth to one third of the size of the first electrode stripe 321 or the second electrode stripe 322 in the first direction.
Referring back to fig. 6, the dimming panel 10 may further include a spacer 4 to support the box thickness of the dimming panel. For example, the box thickness of the dimming panel may be in a range of 6 to 25 μm. Alternatively, the spacer 4 may be a spherical spacer or a columnar spacer, and the spacer 4 may be made of a transparent material or a non-transparent material. For an actual dye liquid crystal type dimming panel, the light transmittance of the actual dye liquid crystal type dimming panel in a transparent state is 30-40%, so that even if the spacer 4 is made of a non-transparent material, the performance of the dimming panel in the transparent state cannot be adversely affected.
For example, the thickness (i.e., the dimension in the direction perpendicular to the upper surface of the first substrate base plate 11) of the above-described first insulating layer 13 may be about 0.15 μm. Although the first insulating layer 13 is added in the dimming panel provided in the above embodiment, since the thickness of the first insulating layer 13 is much smaller than the box thickness of the dimming panel, even less than the box thickness fluctuation caused by the actual manufacturing process fluctuation, the two-layer design structure of the first electrode has less influence on the box thickness of the dimming panel.
With continued reference to fig. 5 and 6, the dimming panel 10 may further include a frame sealing adhesive 5 and a conductive structure 6.
The frame sealing adhesive 5 is disposed between the first dimming substrate 1 and the second dimming substrate 2 and around the dimming panel 10 to enclose a closed space between the first dimming substrate 1 and the second dimming substrate 2, thereby preventing damage of foreign substances to a liquid crystal layer and the like sandwiched between the two substrates.
The conductive structure 6 is disposed on the first substrate base plate 11, for example, the conductive structure 6 may be located in the first electrode layer 321L or the second electrode layer 322L.
As described above, the plurality of traces 15 may electrically connect the corresponding electrode bars 121 to the driving circuit 16 of, for example, an IC, respectively, and a region where the plurality of traces 15 are electrically connected to the driving circuit 16 is provided with a connection Point (PAD), which may also be referred to as a bonding region, such as the bonding region 161 shown in fig. 5 and 7.
Herein, for convenience of description, a side where the driving circuit 16 and the binding region 161 are located is referred to as a DP (abbreviation of Data Pad) side of the dimming panel.
For example, the orthographic projection of the conductive structure 6 on the first substrate base plate 11 may have the shape of an inverted U. Specifically, the orthographic projection of the conductive structure 6 on the first substrate 11 is located on three sides of the first substrate 11 other than the DP side (including the opposite side to the DP side and the left and right sides located between the DP side and the opposite side).
Referring to fig. 5 and 7, the plurality of traces 15 may include a plurality of first traces 151 electrically connecting the driving circuit 16 and a plurality of electrode bars of the first electrodes and at least one second trace 152 electrically connecting the driving circuit 16 and the conductive structure 6.
Each of the first routing wires 151 electrically connects one of the plurality of first electrode bars 321 and the plurality of second electrode bars 322 to the driving circuit 16, respectively, to enable independent control of each of the plurality of first electrode bars 321 and the plurality of second electrode bars 322.
Referring to fig. 6, the frame sealing adhesive 5 is further doped with conductive particles 52, such as gold balls or copper balls. The conductive particles 52 are electrically connected to the conductive structure 6 at one end and to the second electrode 22 at the other end.
That is, the control signal output by the driving circuit 16 can be supplied to the second electrode 22 through the at least one second trace 152, the conductive structure 6 and the conductive particles 52, so as to control the second electrode 22.
Note that the lower right drawing in fig. 6 is a partially enlarged view of the region surrounded by the dashed line frame shown in the drawing to clearly show that the conductive particles 52 electrically connect the conductive structure 6 and the second electrode 22. It should be understood that, in fig. 6, in order to clearly illustrate the structures of the dimming panel according to the embodiment of the present disclosure, the structures or the film layers thereof are not drawn according to the size or the scale of the actual product, and therefore, the sizes and the scale thereof should not be construed as particularly limiting the embodiment of the present disclosure.
Fig. 11 is a sectional view of the dimming panel according to the embodiment of the present disclosure, taken along line CC' in fig. 5, showing a structural schematic view of the dimming panel 10 at the DP side. Referring to fig. 11, the dimming panel 10 may further include a third insulating layer 18 covering the plurality of traces 15, and the third insulating layer 18 may be filled between the plurality of traces 15 to prevent short circuits between the plurality of traces 15. In addition, the third insulating layer 18 is further disposed between the layer where the plurality of traces 15 are located and the layer where the frame sealing adhesive 5 is located, so as to prevent the traces 15 from being electrically connected to the second electrode 22 through the conductive particles in the frame sealing adhesive 5, thereby preventing a short circuit between the first electrode and the second electrode.
The third insulating layer 18 may be located at the same layer as the first insulating layer 13 or the second insulating layer 17, may be located at a different layer from the first insulating layer 13 or the second insulating layer 17, and may be provided as needed.
Fig. 12 is a cross-sectional view of a dimming panel according to further embodiments of the present disclosure, taken along line BB' in fig. 5. It should be noted that some structures of the embodiment illustrated in fig. 12 may be referred to as described above with respect to fig. 5-11, and the same or similar components or structures are denoted by the same reference numerals, with emphasis on describing differences. It should be noted that, in order to clearly illustrate the differences, some structures, such as an alignment layer, a frame sealing adhesive, etc., are omitted in fig. 12.
Referring to fig. 5, 6 and 12 in combination, the dimming panel 10 may include first and second dimming substrates 1 and 2 disposed opposite to each other, and a liquid crystal layer 3 interposed between the first and second dimming substrates 1 and 2.
The first dimming substrate 1 may include a first substrate 11, a first electrode 32, a first insulating layer 13, a second insulating layer 17, and a first alignment layer 14.
The second dimming substrate 2 may include a second substrate 21, a passivation layer 25, a second electrode 22, and a second alignment layer 24. A passivation layer 25, a second electrode 22, and a second alignment layer 24 are sequentially disposed on the second base substrate 21.
For example, the passivation layer 25, the first insulating layer 13, and the second insulating layer 17 may be formed of the same material.
Referring to fig. 12, the passivation layer 25 includes a plurality of bar-shaped passivation portions 251. A plurality of bar-shaped passivation portions 251 are arranged in parallel and at intervals along the first direction. The plurality of bar-shaped passivation portions 251 correspond to the plurality of first electrode bars 321, respectively, one to one. An orthogonal projection of the plurality of bar-shaped passivation portions 251 on the first substrate 11 overlaps (e.g., coincides with) an orthogonal projection of the plurality of first electrode bars 321 on the first substrate 11. In other words, an orthogonal projection of each of the stripe-shaped passivation portions 251 on the first substrate base 11 overlaps (e.g., coincides with) an orthogonal projection of one of the first electrode stripes 321 corresponding to the stripe-shaped passivation portion 251 on the first substrate base 11.
In this embodiment, the second electrode 22 included in the second dimmer base 2 may be a planar electrode, that is, the orthographic projection of the second electrode 22 on the second substrate 21 is formed in a shape of a continuously distributed planar pattern, for example, the orthographic projection of the second electrode 22 on the second substrate 21 is formed in a complete rectangle.
The second electrode 22 is disposed on a side of the passivation layer 25 remote from the second substrate base 21. Since the passivation layer 25 includes a plurality of bar-shaped passivation portions 251 arranged at intervals, some portions of the second electrode 22 are located in gaps between adjacent bar-shaped passivation portions 251 and other portions cover the bar-shaped passivation portions 251. Referring to fig. 12, the second electrode 22 may include a plurality of first electrode portions 221 and a plurality of second electrode portions 222. The plurality of first electrode portions 221 and the plurality of second electrode portions 222 are alternately arranged along the first direction. The orthographic projection of the first electrode part 221 on the first substrate 11 overlaps (e.g., coincides with) the orthographic projection of the first electrode bar 321 on the first substrate 11, and the orthographic projection of the second electrode part 222 on the first substrate 11 overlaps (e.g., coincides with) the orthographic projection of the second electrode bar 322 on the first substrate 11.
In the embodiment shown in fig. 12, the first electrode portion 221 is farther from the second substrate base 21 than the second electrode portion 222.
For example, the dimension (i.e., thickness) of each passivation 251 in the direction perpendicular to the first substrate base 11 (i.e., Y direction in fig. 12) is equal to the dimension (i.e., thickness) of each first electrode stripe 321 in the Y direction. For another example, a dimension (i.e., a thickness) of each passivation 251 in a direction perpendicular to the first substrate base plate 11 (i.e., a Y direction in fig. 12), a dimension (i.e., a thickness) of each first electrode bar 321 in the Y direction, and a dimension (i.e., a thickness) of each second electrode bar 322 in the Y direction are equal to each other.
Thus, the vertical distance (i.e., the distance in the Y direction) between the first electrode portion 221 and its corresponding first electrode bar 321 is equal to the vertical distance (i.e., the distance in the Y direction) between the second electrode portion 222 and its corresponding second electrode bar 322. By the arrangement mode, the distance between the upper electrode and the lower electrode can be consistent, and the generated electric field can be ensured to be uniform. Therefore, the overall display appearance of the dimming panel is improved.
In this embodiment, the distance between the upper and lower electrodes can be made uniform by adding a passivation layer on the upper substrate, and particularly, the distance between the upper and lower electrodes can be made uniform even if the lower electrode has a two-layer design structure. Therefore, the box thickness of the dimming panel can be in the range of 3-4 μm, and the thinner dimming panel can be manufactured. In addition, the passivation layer can be manufactured by utilizing a mask plate for manufacturing the first electrode strips, namely, the dimming template can be thinned under the condition that the mask plate is not increased, and the manufacturing cost is favorably reduced.
Fig. 13 is a flowchart of a method of manufacturing a dimming panel according to some exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure. With combined reference to fig. 5, 6 and 13, the manufacturing method may be performed as follows.
In step S131, a plurality of first electrode stripes 321 are formed on the first substrate 11 at intervals. For example, a plurality of first electrode stripes 321 arranged at intervals may be formed on the first substrate board 11 using a first mask plate.
In step S132, a first insulating layer 13 is formed on the first substrate 11. The first insulating layer 13 may fill gaps between the plurality of first electrode bars 321 and cover the plurality of first electrode bars 321.
In step S133, a plurality of second electrode stripes 322 are formed on the side of the first insulating layer 13 away from the first substrate base 11. For example, a second mask plate may be used to form a plurality of second electrode stripes 322 on a side of the first insulating layer 13 away from the first substrate 11, where the plurality of second electrode stripes 322 and the plurality of first electrode stripes 321 form a complementary relationship, so that an orthographic projection of a combination of the plurality of second electrode stripes 322 and the plurality of first electrode stripes 321 on the first substrate 11 is a complete planar pattern.
In step S134, a second insulating layer 17 is formed on the first substrate 11. The second insulating layer 17 may fill gaps between the plurality of second electrode bars 322 and cover the plurality of second electrode bars 322.
In step S135, a planar second electrode 22 is formed on the second substrate 21.
In step S136, an alignment liquid (for example, PI liquid) is applied to the second insulating layer 17 on the side away from the first base substrate 11 and the second electrode 22 on the side away from the second base substrate 21, respectively, to form the first alignment layer 14 and the second alignment layer 24, respectively.
In step S137, a spacer is formed on one of the first base substrate 11 and the second base substrate 21. For example, spherical spacers may be sprayed on the side of the second alignment layer 24 away from the second substrate base 21.
In step S138, a sealant is formed on the other of the first substrate 11 and the second substrate 21. For example, a sealant material doped with conductive particles may be coated on a side of the first alignment layer 14 away from the first substrate 11, and then cured to form the sealant.
In step S139, liquid crystal molecules (e.g., dye liquid crystal molecules) are dropped on one of the first substrate 11 and the second substrate 21.
In step S140, the first substrate 11 and the second substrate 21 are mounted to each other to form the dimming panel 10.
It should be noted that, according to some embodiments of the present disclosure, some steps in the above manufacturing method may be executed separately or in combination, and may be executed in parallel or sequentially, and are not limited to the specific operation sequence shown in fig. 13.
It should be noted that, in the above exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure, the general inventive concept of the present disclosure is described in detail by taking the dimming panel as an example, however, the embodiments of the present disclosure are not limited thereto, and the general inventive concept of the present disclosure may also be applied to a TN (Twisted Nematic, english will be called a Twisted Nematic) type display device, for example, a passive driving TN type display device. It should also be understood that the TN type display device may include structures necessary for the TN type display device other than the structures shown in fig. 1 to 12, and these structures may refer to the structures of the TN type display device in the related art and will not be described again.
