电脑绣花机是通过针杆架的移动来进行换色操作的，普通针杆架换色导向采用上下多组导轨副组成，不仅安装麻烦，而且运行精度低，于是有的公司采用圆柱导轨与针杆架进行固定连接，通过圆柱导轨滑动来使针杆架移动，从而实现换色功能，但这种装置存在运行噪声大、使用寿命短等问题。
