Abstract

本发明涉及用于将存储模块连接至印刷电路板的电连接器。
背景技术
许多不同种类的存储模块使用于计算机技术中,例如双列直插式存储模块(DIMM)和单边引出线式存储模块(SIMM),它们必须互连到母板或者其它印刷电路板上。通常,这样的连接器包括塑料外壳,该外壳具有多个安装在接收存储模块的插槽的一侧或者两侧的电接触件,这种连接器进一步包括将存储模块上的迹线和印刷电路板上的迹线进行互连的电接触件。提供了许多不同种类的存储模块连接器,其中一些包括边缘模压接触件,即,整个接触件是从导电材料原坯中在一个平面里模压或者蚀刻出的,其中该材料的平面横切外壳中的插槽。另一种类型的电接触件是模压成形接触件,其中接触件也由材料原坯形成,其中原材料的平面平行于接收存储模块的插槽,但是接触件被模压并成形以形成多种接触部分。
美国专利No.6102744公开了一种存储模块连接器,其具有模压并成形的接触件,其中接触件同时包括模块接触部分和印刷电路板接触部分。一些接触件被模压并成形以位于单个平面内,而其它的接触件具有从模块接收插槽横向错出(staggered latterally)的印刷电路板接触部分,从而错开与连接印刷电路板的连接。
如美国专利No.6102744所示,印刷电路板接触部分形成轮廓用于在印刷电路板通孔中被接收,并适于焊接到通孔。尽管这种设计已经被证明相当合适于这样的焊接,当接触件具有顺应针(compliant pin)部分时,即,在印刷电路板接触部分被构造用于在印刷电路板的电镀通孔内进行过盈配合(interference fit)时,具有错出部分的接触件可能被损坏。
损坏不发生在顺应针部分和模块接触部分位于一个平面的接触件中,因为接触件本身足够坚硬以承受将顺应针部分插入通孔中的力。但是,当接触件错出时,接触件在顺应针部分的平面中没有足够的硬度来转移全部插入力而不对接触件和/或连接器造成损坏。
因此,要解决的问题是怎样增加具有从接触件平面错出的顺应针部分的接触件的强度。
发明内容
本发明是一种用于将存储模块连接到印刷电路板的电连接器。该电连接器包括外壳,该外壳具有电路板安装面和模块接收面。该模块接收面包括用于接收存储模块的插槽。接触件安装在插槽内并沿着插槽的侧面布置。每个接触件都包括模块接触部分以及顺应针部分,其中模块接触部分用于咬合模块,顺应针部分用于插入印刷电路板。一些顺应针部分和它们各自的模块接触部分是位于同一平面的,其它顺应针部分从它们各自的模块接触部分横向错出。每个错出的顺应针部分均连接到硬化部件,该硬化部件在外壳的电路板安装面中的空腔中被接收,用于在将错出顺应针部分插入印刷电路板中时硬化错出顺应针部分。

具体实施方式
首先参考图1,电连接器概括地示为2,其作为存储模块连接器,包括绝缘外壳4和多个电接触件,电接触件概括地示为阵列6。该阵列6包括接触件8和接触件10,在接触件8中顺应针部分基本和存储模块接触件在同一平面内,在接触件10中顺应针部分相对于存储模块接触件横向错出。仍如图1所示,外壳4和接触件阵列6通常形成用于接收存储模块并与之电连接的接收插槽12。
现在参考图2A和图2B,外壳4包括模块接收面20和安装面22,插槽12由侧壁相对部分24和下壁部分26形成。外壳4也包括上接收部分28,其包括一个开槽开口30和凹陷释放区域(relief area)34,其限定了向后的肩部36和向前的肩部38。仍如图2A和图2B所示,外壳4包括两个不同的开口40和42,用于接收不同的电接触件。开口40简单地直线延伸穿过下壁26和安装面22之间并包括侧壁44,这里将进一步描述。开口42也延伸至安装面22,但是,每个开口通过沟槽50连接到空腔48。如图2B所最清楚示出的,空腔48包括由侧面边缘52和下表面54限定的矩形开口。最终,如图2B所示,外壳4具有位于开口40、42两侧的肋55,该肋具有面对外壳中心线的边缘56。外壳也具有一个中心肋57,其具有面对边缘56的面58,其间为表面59。
现在参照图3,本发明的接触件示为阵列6,如上所述,该阵列6包括多个接触件8和多个接触件10。如图所示,接触件8通常包括模块接触部分60、锁紧部分(retaining portion)62和顺应针部分64。仍然参照图3,本领域技术人员知道,接触部分60由竖立的刀片(blade)部分66限定,该刀片部分具有向前伸出的突出接触部分68。锁紧部分62由在刀片部分66的两侧的多个咬合部件72以及U形部分74限定,其中该U形部分具有臂部76,该臂部76具有向前的接触表面78。
最后,顺应接触部件64包括伸出的尖端部分80,其包括球根状的接触部件82,该接触部件具有长孔84。这种顺应针部分通常被称为“针眼”型顺应针部分。但是,应该理解,其它顺应针部分例如Tyco Electronics公司的“ACTION PIN(活动针)”型接触件,或者劈裂箭头型(split-arrow-type)顺应针部分也同样可以适用。
仍然参照图3,跟接触件8类似,接触件10包括模块接触件60和顺应针部分64。但是,接触件10通过必备的尾状部分86将刀片部分66相对于顺应针部分64错开,从而将接触件形成为基本上Z形的结构。为了硬化顺应针部分64,接触件10还包括一个如88所概括性示出的硬化部件,该部件具有与顺应针部分64竖立在同一平面中的指状部分90,并夹在尾状部分86的两侧。尾状部分86由与顺应针部分64同样的材料形成并通过在92处提供剪切线限定,这使得指状部分90可竖立得高于尾状部分86和顺应针部分64的交叉点。现在参考图1和图4,外壳的组装将被更加详细的描述。
如图1和图4所示,每个接触件8被插入它们各自的开口40中,使得咬合部件72(图3)过盈地配合开口40的侧壁44(图2B)。如图2B和图4所最清楚示出的,这也将U形部分74放在了表面59顶部适当的位置。如图1所示,这将刀片部分66放入了释放区域34,并且,突出接触部分68贯穿开槽开口30(图2A)。
仍如图1和图4所示,接触件10被插入在它们各自的开口42中,并使得每个尾状部分86位于各自沟槽50中。这也将每个具有指状部分90的硬化部件88放入了各自的空腔48中。
现在参照图5至图8,连接器的另一个实施例示为102,其具有外壳104和一批接触件106,包括接触件108和110。本实施例基本与图1至图4的实施例相类似,因此仅参考图5至图8描述其差别。
如图7所最清楚示出的,接触件110包括硬化部件188,该部件由单个指状部分190组成,该指状部分两侧由尾状部分186的连接部分187夹住,这与如图3所示的前一实施例中的两个指状部分90相对。现在参考图6B,外壳104被变型,以使得开口142通过沟槽150被连接到空腔148。如图5、6A、6B和8所示,接触件110被放在开口142中,并且每个尾状部分186位于沟槽150中且每个硬化部件188位于空腔148中。
外壳104和接触件108、110的组装如图8所示。这种布置基本上与图4所示一样,接触件夹在模块接收插槽112两侧并且每个接触件具有一个伸出外壳的电路板安装面之外的顺应针部分。
现在参考图9和10描述另一个实施例,该实施例是图5至8所示实施例的变形。该实施例利用了同样的接触件108和110,具有变型的外壳204。外壳204变型为具有横向空腔248,该空腔包括一个过渡区域250,该区域的截面基本上是圆形的,其中区域250的直径基本上和空腔248的宽度相同。如图10所示,示出了通过过渡区域250截取的接触件110和相应的空腔的截面。如图所示,因为指状部分190基本是矩形,而过渡区域基本上是圆形的,指状部分190的四个角过盈配合在区域250中。
有利的是,硬化部件88、188在将连接器插入到印刷电路板中时硬化了顺应针部分以增加柱强度(column strength)。如上所述,这样的连接器是被插入到印刷电路板上的,顺应针需要在连接器上施力以将单个顺应针部分插入到它们各自的通孔中。这样,因为硬化部件88、188基本上与顺应针部分位于同一平面,因此,顺应针部分的柱强度在垂直方向被硬化以便插入。

Claims (5)

1.一种用于将存储模块连接到印刷电路板上的电连接器,所述电连接器包括外壳,所述外壳具有电路板安装面和模块接收面,所述模块接收面包括用于接收存储模块的插槽和安装在外壳中并沿着插槽的侧面布置的接触件,每个接触件包括模块接触部分和顺应针部分,其中模块接触部分被构造以咬合模块,顺应针部分被构造用于插入印刷电路板中,一些所述顺应针部分与它们各自所述的模块接触部分共面,其它顺应针部分在横向从它们各自所述的模块接触部分错出,其特征在于:
每个所述错出顺应针部分均连接到硬化部件,所述硬化部件在外壳的电路板安装面中的空腔中被接收,用于在将所述错出顺应针部分插入到印刷电路板时硬化所述错出顺应针部分。
2.如权利要求1所述的电连接器,其中每个所述硬化部件包括指状部分,所述指状部分与其各自所述的顺应针部分排列在一个平面内。
3.如权利要求2所述的电连接器,其中所述指状部分具有矩形截面并且所述空腔具有圆形截面,指状部分被过盈装配在空腔中。
4.如权利要求1所述的电连接器,其中每个所述硬化部分包括两个指状部分,所述指状部分与它们各自所述的顺应针部分排列在一个平面内。
5.如权利要求4所述的电连接器,其中所述两个指状部分夹在尾状部分两侧,所述尾状部分将所述错出顺应针部分连接到所述模块接触部分。
