Abstract

技术领域
本发明涉及一种等离子体显示面板(PDP)设备,并特别涉及一种用于控制PDP地址功率的方法和装置,以及具有这种装置的PDP设备。
背景技术
通常地,PDP由于其驱动特性而呈现出高功耗。因此,有必要根据显示帧需要的负载来控制其功耗。为了控制功耗,电平被自动地控制以保持在一个限制量之下。
根据现有技术,该自动功率控制仅应用于与维持脉冲产生有关的电源上,而不使用在与地址数据产生有关的电源上。因此,与地址数据产生有关的功耗仍然保持在高的水平。
图1描述了在全白状态下的图像数据。在全白状态下,每一个图像数据段具有“1”的值,几乎没有数据上的波动被引入到整个地址电极,脉冲的转换也被保持在最低水平。另外,由于功耗随着转换次数成比例增加,所以充/放电无功功率也保持在小的水平。这样一个全白状态下的驱动信号具有如图2显示的波形。如图2所示,在全白状态下,只需要将图1中的10栏转换一次。
然而,图像数据可以由图3描述的点状图案表示,其中图像数据可以在1和0之间重复交替地转换。因此,需要有一个相当大的转换量,例如,20栏。相应的驱动信号可以具有如图4所示的波形。如附图4所示,在点状图案中将会产生数据波动和脉冲转换。其结果是,功耗增加。
从上面的描述可以知道,由于在前面线和当前线之间的不同像素的量的增加以及也可以由于转换量的增加,使得功耗增加了。
发明内容
本发明提供了一种控制PDP地址功率的方法和装置,以及一种能够通过减少转换地址数据次数来减少功耗的PDP设备。特别地,提供了一种控制PDP地址功率的的方法,该PDP包括多个地址电极、扫描电极和维持电极,所述扫描电极和维持电极成对形成并被交替放置。该方法包括:计算贯穿输入视频信号的线之间像素差值总量;确定与计算总量相对应的衰减系数;输出通过把视频信号和衰减系数相乘所调整的视频数据。
进一步讲,本发明提供了一种用于控制PDP地址功率的装置,该PDP包括多个地址电极、扫描电极和维持电极,所述扫描电极和维持电极成对形成并且被交替设置。该装置包括:用于储存关于负载比的维持放电信息的存储器;地址功率控制器,用于计算外部输入视频信号线间的像素差值的总量和用于输出视频数据,该视频数据已经通过把视频信号和与所计算总量对应的衰减系数相乘来调整;用于处理被调整过的视频数据的视频数据处理器;用于测量被调整后的视频数据的负载比的平均信号电平检测器;和用于输出与当前输入数据的负载比对应的维持放电信息的维持功率控制器。
在一个实施例中,该视频数据处理器将调整后的视频数据信号转化为用于灰度控制的数据信号,并且根据该数据信号的灰度等级来对数据信号进行分类,依照预定的驱动顺序来输出分类后的数据信号。
并且,本发明提供了一个PDP设备,它包括:PDP,具有多个地址电极、扫描电极和维持电极,所述扫描电极和维持电极成对形成并且被交替设置;控制器,用于计算视频信号线间像素差值总量,输出已经通过把视频信号和与计算总量对应的衰减系数相乘所调整的视频数据,测量该视频信号的负载比,并且输出与测量的负载比对应的维持放电脉冲信息;地址数据发生器,用于产生与从控制器接收的调整后的数据对应的地址数据,并相应地把该地址数据施加于PDP的地址电极;和维持-扫描脉冲发生器,用于产生与从控制器接收的维持放电信息对应的维持脉冲和扫描脉冲,并且分别把维持脉冲和扫描脉冲施加于维持电极和扫描电极。

具体实施方式
图5是根据本发明的一个实施例的PDP设备的示意图。如图5所示,PDP设备包括PDP 100、控制器300、地址数据发生器200、以及维持-扫描脉冲发生器400。
PDP 100包括多个地址电极、扫描电极和维持电极。所述扫描电极和维持电极被成对交替设置。
控制器300计算出视频信号线之间的像素差值的总量,并且输出通过把视频信号和与该计算总量一致的衰减系数相乘所调整的视频数据。
控制器300也测量该视频信号的负载比,并且输出与测量的负载比对应的维持放电脉冲信息。
地址数据发生器200产生与从控制器300接收的所调整的数据对应的地址数据,并且从而把该地址数据施加于PDP的地址电极。
维持-扫描脉冲发生器400产生与从控制器300接收的维持放电信息对应的维持脉冲和扫描脉冲,并且分别把所述维持脉冲和扫描脉冲施加于所述维持电极和扫描电极。
图6显示了图5所示的控制器300的更为详细的结构。
如图6所示,控制器300包括地址功率控制器310、视频数据处理器340、维持功率控制器330、平均信号电平(ASL)检测器320以及存储器350。
存储器350储存关于负载比的维持放电信息。
地址功率控制器310计算通过外部输入视频信号的线之间的像素差值的总量,并且输出通过把视频信号和与计算总量对应的衰减系数相乘所调整的视频数据。
视频数据处理器340将调整的视频数据信号转化为用于灰度控制的数据信号,并且按照其灰度等级将数据信号进行分类。随后,视频数据处理器340依照预定驱动顺序输出分类后的数据信号。
ASL检测器320测量调整的视频数据的负载比。
维持功率控制器330输出与当前输入数据负载比对应的维持放电信息。
下面通过参考图5至7详细描述根据本发明的一个实施例的用于控制PDP地址功率的方法和装置,以及一个具有该装置的PDP设备的操作。
图7显示了图6所示的地址功率控制器310的详细结构。首先,一个外部视频信号被输入控制器300。该外部视频信号包括数据分量红色(R)、绿色(G)和蓝色(B),以及同步信号Hsync和Vsync。于是,对于视频信号的每一根线,地址功率控制器310的计算器313把线储存在线存储器311中,计算出储存在线存储器311中的当前线和前面线之间的像素差值,并且通过把像素差值相加来计算出一帧的像素差值总量。
可以通过如下的等式1计算一帧的像素差值总量。
这里,N、M、P、i和j分别代表该帧中线的量、该帧中栏的量、像素数据、线指数和栏指数。等式1可以变换成不同的形式,例如,某种逐线地计算S值的形式,或者某种在整个帧上立刻计算S值的形式。
计算器313计算出每对相邻线的像素差值,也就是前一线和当前线之间,当前线和下一线之间,下一线和下一线之后一线之间,……,第(N-1)条线和第N条线之间。计算器313接着计算出S值,那些像素差值的总量,以及向衰减系数计算器314输出S值。
因此,衰减系数计算器314从衰减系数储存单元312中检索出与S值对应的衰减系数,并且输出这个检索到的衰减系数。
该衰减系数与S值成反比,其值在0和1之间。当S值大的时候,表明像素差值是大的,相应地功耗也是大的。在这种情况中,通过使用衰减系数将会减少像素的差值。
当S值为0时,衰减系数为1。当S值增加时衰减系数减少。衰减系数的值可以用查找图表的形式来表示,这个查找图表可以通过试验获得。在原始的视频信号没有变形的情况下,衰减系数可以有不同的值,并且可以被设计来具有比1更大的值。
接下来,放大器315输出通过把视频信号和衰减系数相乘所调整的数据。
参考图6,视频信号处理器340把调整后的数据转换为用于灰度控制的数据信号,并且根据其灰度等级对调整的数据进行分类。视频数据处理器340接着根据与预定驱动顺序对应的顺序来把分类后的数据输出到地址数据发生器200。
地址数据发生器200产生与从视频数据处理器340输出的视频数据对应的地址数据,并且将它们施加于地址电极。
并行地,ASL检测器320测量调整后的数据的平均信号电平。该被测量后的平均信号电平接着被输入到维持-扫描功率控制器330。
随后,维持-扫描功率控制器330从存储器350中检索与当前在ASL检测器320中测量的负载比相对应的维持放电信息,并且接着输出该维持放电信息到维持-扫描脉冲发生器400中。
从收到维持放电信息开始,维持-扫描脉冲发生器400从存储器350中检索出与负载比对应的在维持放电中的脉冲量。随后,维持-扫描脉冲发生器400产生了一维持脉冲和一扫描脉冲,并且分别将它们施加于维持电极和扫描电极。
因此,相应的视频数据在PDP 100中被显示。
根据上面描述的本发明的该实施例,当输入视频数据中像素差值很大的时候,衰减系数被乘以输入视频数据。举个例子,当输入视频数据在第一行和第一栏的像素P11的值是“000000002”(十进位制中的0),在第二行和第一栏的像素P21的值是“111111112”(十进位制中的255)时,第一行的寻址在任何一个子区域中都没有发生(即,应用该寻址区域的开关是关的),并且第二行的寻址在每一个子区域中都发生了(例如,应用该寻址区域的开关是开的)。那就是说,当从第一行向第二行执行扫描时,应用该寻址区域的开关在每一个子区域上从关转变为开,发生了8次转换。
在相邻像素P11和P21之间有大的数据差值时,衰减系数(比如,4/5)乘以像素P11和P21的每一个视频数据值。根据该示例情况,像素P11的视频数据保持在“000000002”(十进制中的0)和像素P11的视频数据变为“110011002”(十进制中的204),转换的次数减少到4次。
与所描述的本发明的实施例相联系,当在两个相邻像素之间的像素差值大的情况下用衰减系数乘以视频数据时,这个数据排列被改变来减少像素差值。因此,在充电和放电之间的地址电极的转换次数和相应的功耗被减少了。
另外,通过把原始的数据和衰减系数相乘,光发射像素的数量也被减少,这将有助于功耗的衰减。
根据上面所述本发明的实施例,提供了一种方法和装置,用来控制PDP的地址功率,并且提供了一种PDP设备,该设备带有能够通过减少地址数据转换次数来减少功耗的装置。
当结合实际实施例描述本发明时,应该明确的是本发明并不限于所公开的实施例,而且,恰恰相反,其意欲覆盖包含在所附权利要求的精神和范围内的各种更动和等同排列。

Claims (13)
1、一种用来控制等离子体显示面板地址功率的装置,该等离子体显示面板具有多个地址电极、扫描电极和维持电极,所述扫描电极和维持电极成对形成并被交替安置在该等离子体显示面板上,该装置包括:
用于储存关于负载比的维持放电信息的存储器;
响应于外部输入视频信号的地址功率控制器,用于计算该外部输入视频信号线间的像素差值总量和用于输出通过把该视频信号和与该计算出的总量对应的衰减系数相乘来调整的视频数据;
用于处理该调整后的视频数据的视频数据处理器;
用于测量调整后的视频数据的负载比的平均信号电平检测器;以及
用于输出与当前输入数据的负载比对应的维持放电信息的维持功率控制器。
2、如权利要求1所述的装置,其中该地址功率控制器包括:
用于储存该外部输入视频信号线的线存储器;
计算器,用于计算存储在该线存储器中的当前线和前一线之间的像素差值,并且通过把像素差值相加来计算出像素差值总量;
衰减系数存储单元,用于存储关于该像素差值总量的衰减系数;
衰减系数计算器,用于根据计算出的像素差值总量来检索衰减系数,并输出该检索到的衰减系数;以及
放大器,用于输出通过把该视频信号和从该衰减系数计算器输出的衰减系数相乘所调整的数据。
3、如权利要求2所述的装置,其中该衰减系数与一帧中像素差值的总量成线性递减关系。
4、如权利要求3所述的装置,其中当一帧中像素差值的总量为0时,衰减系数是1,该衰减系数随着像素差值总量的增加而减少,并且该衰减系数的值位于0和1之间。
5、如权利要求3所述的装置,其中一帧中像素差值总量作为下面等式中的S值被计算出来:

响应于外部输入视频信号的控制器,用于计算该外部输入视频信号线间的像素差值总量,输出通过把该外部输入视频信号和与该所计算总量对应的衰减系数相乘所调整的视频数据,测量该外部输入视频信号的负载比,和输出与该所测量负载比对应的维持放电脉冲信息;
地址数据发生器,用于产生与从该控制器接收到的所调整数据对应的地址数据,并且相应地把该地址数据施加于该等离子体显示面板的地址电极;以及
维持-扫描脉冲发生器,用于产生与从该控制器接收到的维持放电信息对应的维持脉冲和扫描脉冲,并且分别把所述维持脉冲和扫描脉冲施加于维持电极和扫描电极。
8、如权利要求7所述的等离子体显示面板设备,其中该控制器包括:
存储器,用于存储关于负载比的维持放电信息;
地址功率控制器,用于计算外部输入视频信号线间的像素差值总量和用于输出通过把该视频信号和与该所计算的总量对应的衰减系数相乘所调整的视频数据;
视频数据处理器,用于处理该调整后的视频数据;
平均信号电平检测器,用于测量该调整后的视频数据的负载比;以及

计算贯穿输入视频信号的线之间的像素差值总量;
确定与该计算出的总量对应的衰减系数;
输出通过把该视频信号和该衰减系数相乘所调整的视频数据;
处理该调整后的视频数据;
测量调整后的视频数据的负载比;以及
输出与当前输入数据的负载比对应的维持放电信息。
11、如权利要求10所述的方法,还包括:
把该调整后的视频数据信号转化为用于灰度控制的数据信号;
根据其灰度等级对该数据信号进行分类,以提供分类后的数据信号;以及
以与预定驱动顺序对应的顺序输出该分类后的数据信号。
12、如权利要求11所述的方法,还包括:
确定与输入视频数据的负载比对应的维持放电信息;
把维持脉冲和扫描脉冲施加于所述维持电极和扫描电极,根据该维持放电信息产生所述维持脉冲和扫描脉冲;以及
把地址数据施加于所述地址电极,以与所述预定驱动顺序对应的顺序产生该地址数据。
13、如权利要求12所述的方法,其中该衰减系数与前一线和当前线之间的像素差值总量成线性递减关系,并且其值在0和1之间。
