在无线网络环境下提供点播 视频服务的系统及其方法
技术领域
本发明涉及用于提供信息服务的系统和方法,更具体讲涉及一种在无线网络环境下提供点播视频服务的系统及其方法。
背景技术
无线因特网是在没有有线连接的情况下使用因特网。尽管由于移动电信的发展使人们可以享受因特网或PC通信,但是当用户从一个地点移动到另一个地点时使用因特网的用户数目仍然有限。这是因为当前使用的多数移动电话的传输速度被限制在9.6-14.4kbps。因此,没有经过特殊处理的因特网数据的通信需要花费很长时间,并且空中传播(on-air)电信成本很高。如果将购买必需设备,比如为计算机、无线调制解调器及连接电缆等的费用加到成本上,则因特网的移动通信的广泛使用将需要很长时间。
爱立信(Ericsson)、摩托罗拉(Motorola)、诺基亚(Nokia)和无线普兰尼特(Unwired Planet)这四家跨国公司于1997年首次提出一种无线应用协议(wireless application protocol,WAP),从此以后,全世界多家公司,包括服务提供商、设备制造商和应用程序提供商都在参与WAP协议的开发研究。
WAP是一种协议的类属概念,它能允许从小的无线终端比如为移动电话或个人数据助理(personal data assistant,PDA)使用因特网。先前,为了通过移动电话使用因特网,必须将装有用于移动电话的调制解调器的笔记本计算机连接到终端。然而,WAP能允许利用移动电话本身进行因特网通信。
因为与现有的移动电话服务不同的是,使用WAP的服务使用全球标准化的因特网技术,因此可以提供很大范围的服务。当前备有多种服务,其中有多种通信工具,比如在线信息服务。
在一种信息服务中,先前已经提供了语音服务或部分文字服务。然而,当采用WAP技术时,可在预置注册的地点接收信息服务,甚至当用户离开家时也是如此。当提供了这种服务时,用户不需要拨打预定号码来寻找其所想要的信息。
然而,讫今为止,使用WAP的无线服务仅限于文本传输。因此,需要一种能够对具有用于文本传输的WAP的无线终端增加多媒体功能的技术,以使该终端能够接收多种服务。
发明内容
为解决上述问题,本发明的一个目的是提供一种点播视频(video-on-demand,VOD)服务提供系统,用于在无线网络环境下通过无线应用协议(WAP)提供VOD服务和因特网服务。
本发明的另一个目的是提供一种VOD服务提供方法,用于在无线网络环境下通过WAP提供VOD服务和因特网服务。
为达到本发明的上述目的,提供了一种用于在无线网络环境下提供点播视频(VOD)服务的系统,该系统具有:一VOD终端,用于显示预定视频信息;一无线电信服务支持服务器,用于提供预定无线电信服务菜单,以使所述VOD终端能够对该菜单进行选择;一VOD服务器,用于在由所述无线电信服务器提供的服务菜单上,提供与由所述VOD终端所选的VOD项相关的服务信息;一第一编码装置,用于对从外部输入的和由VOD信息提供商提供的预定节目进行编码;和一第三转换装置,用于将通过因特网输入的预定内容转换为要存储在所述VOD服务器中的预定格式。其中所述点播视频服务器包括:第一存储装置,用于存储从外部输入或者通过因特网输入的信息中的视频信息;第二存储装置,用于存储从外部输入或者通过因特网输入的信息中除视频信息以外的信息;第一转换装置,用于将存储在所述第一存储装置中的视频信息转换为用于无线电信的信息;第二转换装置,用于将存储在所述第二存储装置中的非视频信息转换为用于无线电信的信息;和第三存储装置,用于存储由所述第一转换装置和第二转换装置转换后的无线电信信息。
为达到本发明的另一个目的,提供了一种用于在无线网络环境下提供VOD服务的方法,其中在所述环境中包含一VOD终端、用于提供无线电信服务的无线电信服务支持服务器、以及用于向所述VOD终端提供预定视频和语音服务的VOD服务器,所述方法包含下列步骤:(a)在被连接到所述无线电信服务支持服务器之后,所述VOD终端选择一VOD服务菜单;(b)响应于所述选择,通过所述VOD服务器将与VOD项相关的预定信息提供给所述VOD终端;和(c)利用所述预定信息请求点播视频连接,随后在VOD终端中接收一VOD服务。

图1是说明本发明的用于在无线网络环境下提供点播视频(VOD)服务的系统的结构框图。
参照图1,所述系统包括:无线网络10;VOD终端11;无线电信服务支持服务器12;WAP VOD服务器13(下文中称为“VOD服务器”),该服务器向VOD终端11提供由无线电信服务支持服务器12提供的无线电信服务中的与VOD相关的服务;编码器14,用于以无线通信信息形式,对于从外部输入的和由VOD信息提供商提供的预定节目(下文中称为“内容”)进行编码,包括实时广播、音频及视频记录器;以及转换器15,用于以无线通信信息的形式对通过因特网输入的预定内容进行转换。
图2是图1所示的无线应用协议(WAP)VOD服务器的详细说明图。
图1所示的VOD服务器13包括:web(万维网)网关13-1,用于发送因特网信息;第一数据库(下文中称为“DB”)13-2,用于存储通过web网关13-1输入的因特网信息或者从外部输入的内容信息中的视频信息;第二数据库13-3,用于存储除了通过web网关13-1输入的因特网信息或者从外部输入的内容信息中的视频信息之外的信息;多媒体公共网关接口(multimedia commongateway interface,CGI)13-4,用于将存储在第一DB 13-2中的视频信息转换为适用于无线电信环境的图像目录或者文件;CGI和脚本(scripts)13-5,用于将存储在第二DB 13-3中的非视频信息转换为适用于无线电信环境的无线标记语言(wireless markup language,WML)数据;第三DB 13-6,用于存储分别由多媒体CGI 13-4与CGI和脚本13-5转换的WML及图像目录和文件;以及WAP网关13-7,用于无线发送存储在第三DB 13-6中的信息。
图3说明了图1所示的WAP VOD服务器的应用范围。
图4是说明本发明的用于在无线网络环境下提供VOD服务的方法的操作流程图。
图4所示的方法包括下列步骤:在一无线电信服务支持服务器已被连接之后,从一VOD终端中选择一VOD服务菜单(步骤40);在一VOD内容菜单页已被连接之后,选择所需的内容(步骤41);发送与所选内容相关的详细信息(步骤42);利用所述详细信息请求VOD连接(步骤43);确认该VOD连接(步骤44);发送一开始命令(步骤45);下载一A/V数据流(步骤46);再现所下载的A/V数据流(步骤47);发送一停止命令(步骤48);以及,停止VOD服务(步骤49)。
下面将参照图1到图4详细解释本发明。
在步骤40,VOD终端11通过无线网络10连接到无线电信服务支持服务器12,并且选择一VOD服务菜单。
VOD终端11是由一WAP浏览器(未示出)和一VOD播放器(未示出)形成的。VOD终端11的WAP浏览器连接到无线电信服务支持服务器12并且选择VOD服务菜单。无线电信服务支持服务器12除提供VOD服务菜单之外,还通过无线网络提供多种信息,包括股市、新闻、娱乐信息以及其它信息。
在步骤41,VOD终端11的WAP浏览器连接到由VOD服务器13提供的VOD内容菜单页,然后选择所需的内容。
VOD服务器13向VOD终端11提供由无线电信服务支持服务器12提供的无线电信服务中的与VOD相关的服务。此时,VOD服务器13存储预定内容,包括那些来自实时广播、音频和视频记录器的内容,这些内容是在从外部输入之后由编码器14转换的,或者是由VOD信息提供商提供的,VOD服务器13还存储通过转换器15输入的预定因特网内容。VOD服务器13基于所存储的内容,向VOD终端11提供多种服务。
提供VOD服务的VOD服务器13的结构示于图2中。提供给VOD服务器13的因特网信息通过web网关13-1存储在第一DB 13-2或者第二DB 13-3中。来自实时广播、音频和视频记录器的信息提供商的内容信息也存储在第一DB 13-2或者第二DB 13-3中。在存储时,通过web网关13-1输入的因特网信息或者从外部输入的内容信息中的视频信息存储在第一DB中,而所述因特网信息和内容信息中的非视频信息存储在第二DB中。存储在第一DB13-2中的视频信息在多媒体CGI 13-4中被转换为适用于无线电信环境的图像目录或文件,然后被存储在第三DB 13-6中,而存储在第二DB 13-3中的非视频信息在CGI和脚本13-5中被转换为适用于无线电信环境的WML,然后被存储在第三DB 13-6中。也就是说,第三DB 13-6存储在多媒体CGI 13-4中所转换的图像目录或文件,以及在CGI和脚本13-5中所转换的WML。存储在第三DB 13-6中的适用于无线电信环境的信息通过WAP网关13-7提供给VOD终端11。
存储在第一和第二DB 13-2和13-3中的信息能够由信息提供商更新为最新信息。在图3所示的多服务器(multi-server)中,内容可以级联(cascade)结构形成。用级联结构的原因是因为服务器的最大容量有限。利用这种结构,可分配用于处理的载荷。此外,这种结构还用于利用更大数目的同时运行服务器向用户提供更多样的信息。此外,由于使用了这种结构,可以提高由信息提供商更新的内容的速率,并且VOD终端11可以接收包括实时信息在内的多种信息。
在步骤42,VOD服务器13向VOD终端11提供与所选内容相关的详细信息。由VOD服务器13提供的详细信息包括这样的信息,如:应用程序的名称、电影站点(统一资源定位器(uniform resource locator,URL))的位置、版本、端口,以及其它信息。利用所提供的信息,VOD终端11在步骤43请求VOD服务器13连接VOD。也就是说,VOD终端11例如利用详细信息来请求连接到所需的电影站点。响应于来自VOD终端的连接,VOD服务器在步骤44确认VOD连接。在收到来自VOD服务器的确认之后,VOD终端11在步骤45发送用于下载电影信息的开始命令。当该开始命令被发送到VOD服务器13时,在步骤46和47,VOD服务器13向VOD终端11下载音频/视频(A/V)数据流,并再现该数据流。在开始命令被发送之后,VOD服务器13通过无线网络向VOD终端11提供存储在第三DB 13-6中的信息。此时,VOD服务器13除了发送A/V数据流之外,还发送一些功能信息,比如快进、倒带、暂停等,以便VOD终端11能够通过选择这些信息来使用功能信息。当完成下载或再现请求到VOD终端11的所有信息时,在步骤48,向VOD服务器发送一VOD服务停止命令。该VOD服务停止命令可在VOD信息下载期间被发送。当该停止命令被发送到VOD服务器13时,在步骤49停止提供给VOD终端11的VOD服务。
本发明并不限于上面描述的实施例,在本发明的精神和范围内可以有许多变化。按照本系统,VOD终端用户可以在无线电信环境下通过WAP接收VOD服务和因特网服务,以使信息的利用和满意程度最大化。

Claims (4)

1.一种用于在无线网络环境下提供点播视频服务的系统,该系统包含:
一点播视频终端,用于显示预定视频信息;
一无线电信服务支持服务器,用于提供预定无线电信服务菜单,以使所述点播视频终端能够对该菜单进行选择;
一点播视频服务器,用于在由所述无线电信服务器提供的服务菜单上,提供与由所述点播视频终端所选的点播视频项相关的服务信息;所述点播视频服务器包括:
第一存储装置,用于存储从外部输入或者通过因特网输入的信息中的视频信息;
第二存储装置,用于存储从外部输入或者通过因特网输入的信息中除视频信息以外的信息;
第一转换装置,用于将存储在所述第一存储装置中的视频信息转换为用于无线电信的信息;
第二转换装置,用于将存储在所述第二存储装置中的非视频信息转换为用于无线电信的信息;和
第三存储装置,用于存储由所述第一转换装置和第二转换装置转换后的无线电信信息;
一编码装置,用于对从外部输入的和由点播视频信息提供商提供的预定节目进行编码;和
一第三转换装置,用于将通过因特网输入的预定内容转换为要存储在所述点播视频服务器中的预定格式。
2.如权利要求1所述的系统,其中,所述点播视频服务器是由多个同时运行的服务器形成的,以使经由所述第一编码装置和第三转换装置的点播视频信息提供商以及预定点播视频信息提供商可以访问该服务器。
3.一种用于在无线网络环境下提供点播视频服务的方法,其中在所述环境中包含一点播视频终端、用于提供无线电信服务的无线电信服务支持服务器、以及用于向所述点播视频终端提供预定视频和语音服务的点播视频服务器,所述方法包含下列步骤:
(a)在被连接到所述无线电信服务支持服务器之后,所述点播视频终端选择一点播视频服务菜单;
(b)响应于所述选择,通过点播视频服务器将与点播视频项相关的预定信息提供给所述点播视频终端;和
(c)利用所述预定信息请求点播视频连接,随后在点播视频终端中接收一点播视频服务。
4.如权利要求3所述的方法,其中,当所述点播视频终端在该点播视频终端使用点播视频服务的时候发送一停止命令时,所述点播视频服务器停止提供所述点播视频服务。
