An extension telephoneis connected to a facsimile system having a memory dialling function. The extension telephone may be a dial pulse telephone or a DTMF telephone. The facsimile system includes a dial pulse detector and a DTMF detector, to detect a hook-off status of the extension telephone. Upon detecting the hook-off status, the facsimile system detects a memory dialling request signal generated from the extension telephone by using the dial pulse detector or the DTMF detector. Then, the facsimile system reconnects a telephone line to an exchange in response to the memory dialling request signal, reads out a telephone number corresponding to the memory dialling request signal and dials the read telephone number.
