Detailed Description
Before a detailed description is given of the embodiment with reference to fig. 1, a general explanation is made.
As mentioned at the outset, with the development of infotainment systems, a more immersive experience can be developed for occupants in the vehicle. Typically, automobiles include audio and video systems, for example, with multiple screens for both front and rear passengers. This allows the occupant to, for example, watch movies and videos, play games, conduct audio and video conversations, browse, conduct online lessons, and other various online and offline activities.
In many cases, a single audio system may be suitable, but if the content played on the screen is different, it may interfere with other occupants, especially the driver, who may be distracted, thereby affecting driving safety.
It has been recognized that in some embodiments, if each occupant in a vehicle wants to perform personalized activities independently of the other occupants, a seamless pairing of wireless audio output devices such as headphones or earphones should be provided such that each wireless audio output device is paired with the vehicle's infotainment system separately for each occupant. This may allow each occupant to concentrate on his or her own activities, such as talking, video, personalizing music channels, etc., without interfering with others, especially the driver.
Accordingly, some embodiments relate to an information processing apparatus for an infotainment system of a vehicle, wherein the information processing apparatus includes circuitry configured to:
Pairing the wireless audio output device with the infotainment system via a pairing point of the plurality of pairing points, each pairing point associated with one of the plurality of media devices, wherein the wireless audio output device is paired with the infotainment system in response to an indication from the pairing point that the wireless audio output device is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point; and
The wireless audio output device is associated with a media device of the plurality of media devices to output audio content by the wireless audio output device in response to pairing via the corresponding pairing point.
Some embodiments relate to an infotainment system for a vehicle, wherein the infotainment system comprises:
A plurality of media devices;
a plurality of pairing points, each pairing point associated with one of the plurality of media devices; and
An information processing apparatus comprising circuitry configured to:
Pairing the wireless audio output device with the infotainment system via a pairing point of the plurality of pairing points, wherein the wireless audio output device pairs with the infotainment system in response to an indication from the pairing point that the wireless audio output device is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point;
The wireless audio output device is associated with a media device of the plurality of media devices to output audio content by the wireless audio output device in response to pairing via the corresponding pairing point.
Some embodiments relate to a vehicle, wherein the vehicle comprises an infotainment system, wherein the infotainment system comprises:
A plurality of media devices;
a plurality of pairing points, each pairing point associated with one of the plurality of media devices; and
An information processing apparatus comprising circuitry configured to:
Pairing the wireless audio output device with the infotainment system via a pairing point of the plurality of pairing points, wherein the wireless audio output device pairs with the infotainment system in response to an indication from the pairing point that the wireless audio output device is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point;
The wireless audio output device is associated with a media device of the plurality of media devices to output audio content by the wireless audio output device in response to pairing via the corresponding pairing point.
The vehicle may be an automobile, bus, train, plane, ship, etc. When the vehicle is an automobile or a bus, the vehicle may be used for carpooling or taxi service.
The information processing apparatus may be a computer, for example, an on-board computer of a vehicle. In some embodiments, the information processing device is a centralized control of the infotainment system.
The circuitry may be based on or may include or be implemented as integrated circuit logic or may be implemented by a CPU (central processing unit), application processor, graphics Processing Unit (GPU), microcontroller, FPGA (field programmable gate array), ASIC (application specific integrated circuit), etc., or a combination thereof.
The functions may be implemented by software executed by a processor such as a microprocessor. The circuitry may be based on or may include or be implemented by typical electronic components configured to implement the functionality described herein. The circuit may be based on or may include, or may be implemented in part by, typical electronic components and integrated circuit logic as well as software.
The circuitry may include data storage capabilities to store data, e.g., memory (e.g., RAM, EPROM, etc.) or magnetic storage technology (e.g., hard disk drive), etc., which may be based on semiconductor storage technology.
The circuit may include a data bus for receiving and transmitting data over the data bus. The circuit may implement a communication protocol for receiving and transmitting data over the data bus. The data bus may be or may be based on a Controller Area Network (CAN) bus, an I 2 C (inter integrated circuit) interface, or the like.
The circuit may include a network interface to wirelessly communicate with an external computer network, for example, via a mobile telecommunications network. The circuitry may include a wireless interface to support the use of wireless communication protocols (e.g.,NFC ("near field communication")). The circuit may also be configured to support vehicle-to-vehicle ("V2V") communications.
The wireless audio output device may be a wireless headset or earphone, and may be configured to support a wireless communication protocol (e.g.,NFC ("near field communication")) and receives audio data representing audio content via a wireless communication link using a wireless communication protocol, and outputs the audio content via a speaker.
It has been recognized that the pairing should be done by contacting the wireless audio output device to a dedicated pairing point for each seat that is close to the occupant in order to pair the wireless audio output device specifically for that occupant and not others.
Thus, the infotainment system comprises a plurality of pairing points, wherein each pairing point is associated with one of the plurality of media devices. Each mating point is mounted at a predetermined location in the vehicle.
Each pair of points is configured to support a wireless communication protocol (e.g., NFC ("near field communication")) and communicates with the information processing device to pair the wireless audio output device with the infotainment system. Each pairing point is configured to send an indication to the information processing device indicating whether the wireless audio output device is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point.
The wireless audio output device pairs with the infotainment system via a pairing point of the plurality of pairing points in response to an indication from the pairing point that the wireless audio output device is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point.
In some embodiments, for example, the pairing point detects a signal strength of a wireless signal transmitted from the wireless audio output device, wherein the signal strength is dependent on a distance between the pairing point and the wireless audio output device. In such embodiments, the pairing point determines whether the wireless audio output device is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point based on the signal strength and a predetermined threshold.
The predetermined distance may be quite short compared to the whole range of the wireless signal, e.g. a few centimeters, such that the wireless audio output device is placed almost on or in contact with the mating point. Thus, in some embodiments, the predetermined distance is 10 centimeters or less.
The media device may be a display or a mobile communication device (e.g., a smart phone, tablet, etc.).
In some embodiments, an infotainment system in a vehicle includes a plurality of displays as or between a plurality of media devices, wherein each display is mounted at a predetermined location in the vehicle. In such an embodiment, each media device is associated with one of the plurality of pairing points based on its predetermined location.
Each display may be configured to exchange data with an information processing device and play content including visual content and audio content. Thus, the display may include speakers and a screen or touch screen to additionally obtain user input.
In some embodiments, the media device is a mobile communication device configured to connect with the information handling device to pair with the infotainment system and exchange data with the information handling device. The mobile communication device may be registered in advance with the infotainment system via the information processing device.
In some embodiments, a mobile communication device (as a media device) is associated with one of a plurality of pairing points.
For example, in such an embodiment, each seat in the vehicle, which is registered as being associated with one of a plurality of pairing points, may be registered in the vehicle as being taken by a predetermined person to whom the mobile communication device belongs, and such information may be stored in advance in the information processing device. Further, for example, in a train, a mobile communication device may be associated with a seat based on a purchased digital ticket, and the seat registered as being associated with one of a plurality of mating points.
Further, in such an embodiment, the information processing device (its circuitry) may obtain in-cabin monitoring information from an in-cabin monitoring system that obtains image information and/or depth information to determine whether the seat is being taken by a predetermined person, thereby enabling the mobile communication device to be associated with the wireless audio output device.
In some embodiments, the information processing device pairs the mobile communication device with the infotainment system via the pairing point in response to an indication from the pairing point that the mobile communication device is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point. In such an embodiment, the information processing device associates the mobile communication device with one of the plurality of media devices in response to pairing via the corresponding pairing point.
The information processing device (circuitry thereof) associates the wireless audio output device with a media device of the plurality of media devices to output audio content by the wireless audio output device in response to pairing via the corresponding pairing point.
In other words, the wireless audio output device is associated with the media device when the wireless audio output device is paired via a pairing point associated with the media device.
In some embodiments, when the wireless audio output device is associated with a media device, the information processing device (its circuitry) controls the audio content to be output by the wireless audio output device instead of the media device.
In some embodiments, the information processing device sends an indication to the media device to instruct the media device to suppress output of the audio content and/or to send the audio content to the information processing device for transmission to the wireless audio output device to output the audio content.
In some embodiments, the information processing device transmits only visual content to the media device and audio content to the wireless audio output device to output the audio content.
It has been recognized that multiple occupants may have a synchronized experience, for example, by watching the same movie in a synchronized manner.
Thus, in some embodiments, the circuit is configured to:
Synchronizing content playback between the media device, the wireless audio output device, a second media device of the plurality of media devices, and a paired second wireless audio output device associated with the second media device; and
The control audio content is output by the wireless audio output device and the second wireless audio output device.
In some embodiments, content playback is synchronized in response to a request from a media device.
For example, a user of a media device may use a graphical user interface ("GUI") to request that content playback be synchronized for the user and another user. The second media device may request another user to confirm the request for synchronized playback.
It has been recognized that if the occupants wear headphones (wireless audio output devices), the driver or other occupant can speak to them using a pass-through system that will pass audio content from one occupant to another, so that they do not need to stop outputting audio content or take the wireless audio output device off to speak or talk to each other.
Thus, in some embodiments, the circuitry is configured to control, in response to a request from a media device, the audio content to be additionally output by a paired second wireless audio output device associated with a second media device of the plurality of media devices.
It has also been recognized that the driver will have specific details to provide additional important information for operating the vehicle, such as navigation, through important external sounds (e.g., emergency vehicle sounds), and any important notifications.
Thus, in some embodiments, the circuitry is configured to control the obtained predetermined audio content specific to the driver to be output by a paired second wireless audio output device associated with a second media device associated with the driver seat.
The predetermined content may be obtained by the information processing apparatus via radio, from an external computer network (e.g., via a mobile telecommunications system), or from an environmental sensor in the vehicle (e.g., a microphone that acquires external sound).
It has also been recognized that content sharing may be performed across different vehicles, for example, based on V2V ("vehicle-to-vehicle") communications, when a group of people is traveling on the same route with multiple vehicles.
Thus, in some embodiments, the circuit is configured to communicate with a second information processing device of a second infotainment system in a second vehicle. The communication may be based on V2V communication.
In some embodiments, the circuit is configured to:
Synchronizing content playback between the media device, the wireless audio output device, a second media device of a second infotainment system, and a second wireless audio output device paired with the second infotainment system, the second wireless audio output device being associated with the second media device; and
The control audio content is output by the wireless audio output device and the second audio output device.
In some embodiments, the circuitry is configured to control, in response to a request from the media device, that the audio content be additionally output by a second wireless audio output device paired with the second infotainment system, the second wireless audio output device being associated with a second media device of the second infotainment system.
Some embodiments relate to a (respective) information processing method for an infotainment system of a vehicle, wherein the information processing method comprises:
Pairing the wireless audio output device with the infotainment system via a pairing point of the plurality of pairing points, each pairing point associated with one of the plurality of media devices, wherein the wireless audio output device is paired with the infotainment system in response to an indication from the pairing point that the wireless audio output device is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point; and
The wireless audio output device is associated with a media device of the plurality of media devices to output audio content by the wireless audio output device in response to pairing via the corresponding pairing point.
The methods described herein are also implemented in some embodiments as a computer program that, when executed on a computer and/or processor, causes the computer and/or processor to perform the methods. In some embodiments, there is also provided a non-transitory computer readable recording medium having stored therein a computer program product which, when executed by a processor such as the above-described processor, causes the method described herein to be performed.
Returning to fig. 1, an embodiment of a vehicle 1 comprising an infotainment system 2 is schematically shown, which will be discussed below with reference to fig. 1 to 3.
The vehicle includes an infotainment system 2 and a plurality of seats O-1 to O-4, wherein the seat O-1 is a driver's seat.
The infotainment system 2 comprises an information processing device 3, here a vehicle computer, a plurality of media devices 4-1 to 4-4 and a plurality of pairing points 5-1 to 5-4.
The media device 4-1 is a display mounted in the middle of the front console and is associated with a pairing spot 5-1 in the left front door. The information processing apparatus 3 stores the association information.
The media device 4-2 is a mobile telecommunication device, here a smartphone, and is associated with a pairing point 5-2, which will be discussed with reference to fig. 3. The information processing apparatus 3 stores the association information.
The media device 4-3 is a display mounted behind the front left seat, the driver's seat O-1, and is associated with a mating point 5-3 in the rear left door. The information processing apparatus 3 stores the association information.
The media device 4-4 is a display mounted behind the front right seat O-2 and associated with a mating point 5-4 in the rear right door. The information processing apparatus 3 stores the association information.
Hereinafter, it is assumed that each seat is occupied. The person occupying seat O-1 is the driver and has a wireless audio output device 6-1, the person occupying seat O-2 has a wireless audio output device 6-2, the person occupying seat O-3 has a wireless audio output device 6-3, and the person occupying seat O-4 has a wireless audio output device 6-4.
Each occupant of seats O-2 through O-4 may wish to enjoy personal entertainment while the driver on seat O-1 may wish to obtain important information about driving conditions, etc., and each occupant may wish not to bother others.
Thus, each passenger of seats O-1 through O-4 may wish to have a dedicated audio output that does not disturb the other occupants so that they wish to associate their wireless audio output devices 6-1 through 6-4 with media devices 4-1 through 4-4, respectively.
For example, pairing of the wireless audio output device 6-3 with the infotainment system 2 and association with the media device 4-3 will be discussed below with reference to FIG. 2, FIG. 2 schematically showing a flow chart of an embodiment of the information processing method 20.
At 21, the occupant of seat O-3 moves wireless audio output device 6-3 closer to mating point 5-3. The pairing point 5-3 detects that the wireless audio output device 6-3 is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point 5-3 based on the signal strength of the wireless signal transmitted from the wireless audio output device 6-3.
Then, the pairing point 5-3 transmits an indication that the wireless audio output device 6-3 is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point 5-3 to the information processing device 3.
In response to the indication, the information processing device 3 pairs the wireless audio output device 6-3 with the infotainment system 2 via the pairing point 5-3.
At 22, the information processing device 3 associates the wireless audio output device 6-3 with the media device 4-3 in response to pairing via the corresponding pairing point 5-3.
At 23, the information processing device 3 sends an instruction to the media device 4-3 via the pairing point 5-3 indicating that the media device 4-3 should suppress audio content output and should send any audio content to the information processing device 3, for example, because the media device 4-3 may have locally stored content for playback, e.g., video.
The occupant of the seat 4-3 uses the video application on the media device 4-3 and requests video content from the external network 7 at 24, wherein the information processing device 3 communicates with the external network 7 and downloads the desired video content at 25.
At 26, the information processing device 3 sends the visual content to the media device 4-3 via the pairing point 5-3 and the audio content to the wireless audio output device 6-3.
Thus, when the wireless audio output device 6-3 is associated with the media device 4-3, the information processing device 3 controls the audio content to be output by the wireless audio output device 6-3 instead of the media device 4-3.
Hereinafter, synchronous playback of content is discussed with reference to fig. 3, fig. 3 schematically showing a flowchart of an embodiment of the information processing method 30.
Some occupants may wish to watch the same movie together, however, they may wish not to disturb other occupants. It is assumed below that the occupants in the O-2 and O-3 seats may wish to watch the same movie together, which movie is downloaded in advance and stored on the information processing apparatus 3.
At 31, pairing of the wireless output device 6-3 and association with the media device 4-3 is performed as discussed with reference to fig. 2.
Further, at 31, media device 4-2 is first associated with pairing point 5-2, as will be discussed below.
The occupant in seat O-2 moves media device 4-2 (the smartphone) into proximity with mating point 52. The pairing point 5-2 detects that the media device 4-2 is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point 5-2 based on the signal strength of the wireless signal transmitted from the media device 4-2.
Then, the pairing point 5-2 transmits an indication to the information processing device 3 that the media device 4-2 is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point 5-2.
In response to the indication, the information processing device 3 associates the media device 4-2 with the infotainment system 2 via the pairing point 5-2.
Here, the information processing apparatus 3 first needs to associate the pairing point 5-2 with the media apparatus 4-2 because the pairing point 5-2 has not yet associated the media apparatus because there is no pre-installed display, for example, dedicated to the occupant in the seat O-2.
To avoid unnecessary repetition, reference is made to 21 to 26 discussed below with reference to fig. 2 for further pairing and association of the wireless audio output devices 6-2 and control of the audio content output by the wireless audio output devices 6-2 and 6-3.
At 32a, the occupant in seat O-3 requests, via media device 4-3, that the same movie (content for playback) be viewed by the occupant in seat O-2.
At 32b the information processing apparatus 3 forwards the request to the media apparatus 4-2 to obtain a confirmation that the content should be shared in a synchronized manner.
At 33, the media device 4-2 sends an acknowledgement to the information processing device 3.
At 34, the information processing device 3 sends the synchronized visual content to the media devices 4-2 and 4-3 and the synchronized audio content to the wireless audio output devices 6-2 and 6-3 via the pairing points 5-2 and 5-3, respectively.
Thus, the information processing device synchronizes content playback among the media device 4-2, the wireless audio output device 6-2, the media device 4-3, and the wireless audio output device 6-3.
Further, the information processing apparatus 3 controls the audio content to be output by the wireless audio output apparatus 6-2 and the wireless audio output apparatus 6-3.
Returning to fig. 1, the information processing apparatus 3 may obtain predetermined audio content, such as traffic report information, for example, from the external network 7, or may obtain navigation information from an executed navigation application, or may obtain environmental sounds, such as emergency vehicle sounds, via the microphone 8 of the vehicle 1.
The information processing apparatus 3 controls the predetermined audio content thus obtained, which is specific to the driver on the seat O-1, to be output by the paired wireless audio output apparatus 6-1 associated with the media apparatus 4-1 associated with the driver seat O-1.
Further, the information processing apparatus 3 may communicate with the second vehicle 9 via vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V) to share synchronous playback similar to that discussed above.
Fig. 4 schematically shows a flow chart of an embodiment of the information processing method 40, which will be discussed below.
The information processing method 40 may be performed by the information processing apparatus 3 of fig. 1.
At 41, the wireless audio output device is paired with the infotainment system via a pairing point of the plurality of pairing points, each pairing point associated with one of the plurality of media devices, wherein the wireless audio output device is paired with the infotainment system in response to an indication from the pairing point that the wireless audio output device is within a predetermined distance from the pairing point, as discussed herein.
At 42, a wireless audio output device is associated with a media device of the plurality of media devices to output audio content by the wireless audio output device in response to pairing via the corresponding pairing point, as discussed herein.
At 43, in response to a request from a media device, the audio content is controlled to be additionally output by a paired second wireless audio output device associated with a second media device of the plurality of media devices, as discussed herein.
At 44, the obtained predetermined audio content specific to the driver is controlled to be output by a paired second wireless audio output device associated with a second media device associated with the driver's seat, as discussed herein.
