Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates generally to storage and display assemblies for personal care products, and more particularly to a case with hanging labels to facilitate display and securement of one or more components of a razor system.
Background
Consumer products are incorporating more innovations to provide consumers with an improved user experience. However, innovative consumer products are more expensive and are therefore more likely to be stolen by shoplifters on retail shelves. Shoplifters typically find products that are compact, relatively high priced, and capable of being sold at near retail prices. For example, razors and razor cartridges are often expensive, small in size, high in resale value, and in large demand, especially for higher end brands. Like razors and razor blades, electric toothbrushes and their corresponding replacement heads are also often shoplifting items. Tooth whitening strips are another oral hygiene product in retail stores that has a high rate of theft. In addition, with the development of electronic commerce, the shoplifting industry is continuously developing due to the increased convenience of selling stolen products through the internet.
Consumer product companies and retailers often use plastic blister packages because they are more difficult for shoplifters to tear. However, due to the increasing global environmental concerns, manufacturers desire to employ environmentally friendly packaging. Plastic packages are also frustrating to legitimate consumers because it is difficult to open the package without the aid of sharp tools. As a result, more and more packages are being designed with paper materials. However, paper packages are more prone to tearing, especially if the security tag is attached to the hang tag portion of the package. Despite the use of known packaging techniques, there is still a need for further modification of consumer product packaging to prevent theft of the product, while also providing a package that is more sustainable.
It is desirable to provide a durable multi-purpose package for razor systems that can be used to both safely display a product in a retail environment and to store the product during use by a consumer.

Detailed Description
Referring to fig. 1, there is shown a perspective view of one possible embodiment of a storage and display assembly 10 in a retail environment. The storage and display assembly 10 may include a base 12, a hang tag 14, and a cover 16 mounted over a portion of the base 12 and hang tag 14. The cover 16 may have a front face 18 that may include branding and other information related to storing and displaying the contents of the assembly 10. In some embodiments, sleeve 15 may wrap around a portion of base 12 and cover 16. In certain embodiments, the sleeve 15 may wrap around the cover 16 and the base 12. The sleeve 15 may have a temporary adhesive to secure the sleeve 15 to the base 12 and/or cover 16. After purchasing the storage and display assembly 10, the sleeve 15 may be removed and discarded. The base 12 and the cover 16 may each comprise a durable material, such as an engineering plastic, such as polycarbonate and/or a metal, or a metal alloy, such as steel, aluminum, tin, or a combination thereof. Storage and display assembly 10 may provide a sturdy and multi-use container that protects any consumer goods (not shown) stored within storage and display assembly 10. The materials of the base 12 and lid 16 not only make intrusion by a potential thief more difficult, but also serve as a reusable convenient travel box, as opposed to a typical plastic blister pack or cardboard consumer product pack that is discarded after opening.
The security tag 20 may be temporarily affixed to the hang tag 14 to provide a security function. Hang tag 14 may define an opening 22 sized to receive a retail hook 24. Alternatively, the security tag 20 may be secured to the hang tag 14 using an opening 22, as shown in FIG. 1. The security tag 20 may define an opening 26 sized to receive the retail hook 24. However, it should be understood that the storage and display assembly 10 with the anti-theft tag 20 may also be displayed on a shelf rather than hanging from the retail hanger 24. The security tag 20 may have a body 28 and a sensor 30 located externally of the storage and display assembly 10. The security tag 20 and/or sensor 30 may extend beyond the storage and display assembly 10 to be clearly visible to consumers or potential shoplifters. The anti-theft tag 20 is positioned outside of the storage and display assembly 10 and is clearly visible to further prevent shoplifters from theft of the storage and display assembly 10. For example, if a potential shoplifter realizes that a product has an anti-theft device, then their likelihood of attempting to steal the product is reduced. The sensor 30 may be in communication with a store alarm system 32. Thus, if the anti-theft tag 20 is not removed from the storage and display assembly 10 prior to exiting the store, the sensor 30 may trigger the alarm system 32 informing store personnel. The security tag 20 may be removed by store personnel at checkout and reused for other storage and display assemblies 10.
Referring to fig. 2, there is shown a side view of storage and display assembly 10 with security tag 20 attached to hang tag 14. As will be described in greater detail below, the hang tag 14 may pivot between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the hang tag 14 may keep the cover 16 secured to the base 12. The security tag 20 may have a bottom surface 34 that contacts a top surface 36 of the cover 14 and/or a top surface 38 of the base 14 to prevent the hang tag 14 from being removed from the first position to secure the cover 16 to the base 12 when the storage and display assembly 10 is in a retail environment prior to purchase.
Referring to fig. 3, an assembled view of the storage and display assembly 10 is shown. The base 12 may define a cavity 40 configured to receive a consumer product 42. Although consumer product 42 is shown as a razor, it should be understood that storage and display assembly 10 may store other products including, but not limited to, toothbrushes and electric razors. The hang tag 14 may have a first end 44 and a second end 46. The first end 44 may include a hook 48 that engages the cover 16 in the first position. The first end 44 may have a pin 50 that facilitates pivoting of the hang tag 14 between the first and second positions. A tab 52 may extend from the first end 44 (e.g., the hook 48) to facilitate engagement of the cover 16. The base 12 (e.g., top surface 38) may define a recess 54 sized to receive the hang tag 14. The protrusion 56 may be positioned within the recess 54. As will be described in greater detail below, the opening 22 of the hang tag 14 may be sized to receive the hang tag 14 in the second position. The first end 44 may be inserted into the recess 54 before or after positioning the consumer product 42 within the cavity 40. The cover 16 may then be mounted to the base 12. Once the cover 16 is mounted to the base 12, the hang tag 14 may be moved to the first position to engage the hang tag 14 with the cover 16.
Referring to fig. 4, a cross-sectional view of the storage and display assembly 10 is shown in a first position taken generally along line 4-4 of fig. 1. For clarity, the security tag 20 of FIG. 1 has been removed. In the first position, the first end 44 of the hang tag 14 may be positioned within the recess 54 of the base 12 and the second end 46 of the hang tag 14 may be positioned outside of the recess 54. The hang tag 14 may be engaged with the cover 16 to secure the cover 16 to the base 12. For example, the cover 16 may have an edge 58 on an inner surface 60 of the cover 16 with which the hook 48 engages in the first position, thereby securing the cover 16 to the base. Once the security tag 20 of FIG. 1 is removed, the consumer may move the hang tag 14 out of the first position by pivoting the hang tag 14 to disengage the hook 48 from the cover 16. The recess 54 may have a lower surface 62 that supports the tab 52 in the first position. In certain embodiments, the lower surface 62 may be concave to support the tab 52 as the hang tag 14 pivots within the recess 54. The lower surface 62 may have a protrusion 64 that helps to retain the hang tag 14 in the first position. For example, a force must be applied to hang tag 14 to cause tab 52 to clear projection 64, thereby allowing hang tag 14 to be moved out of the first position to unlock cover 16 from base 12.
Referring to fig. 5 and 6, the storage and display assembly 10 is shown with the hang tag 14 in the second position. The second position may be transverse to the first position, wherein the hooks 48 are disengaged from the cover 16. Once the hooks 48 are disengaged from the cover 16, the cover 16 may be separated from the base 12. The hang tag 14 may then be folded into the second position. In the second position, the second end 46 of the hang tag 14 may be positioned entirely within the recess 54 of the base 12. For example, hang tag 14 may not extend beyond base 12, thereby allowing cover 16 to be mounted over base 12 and hang tag 14. In some embodiments, the cover 16 may cover the second end 46 of the hang tag 14, thereby concealing it from view. The opening 22 of the hang tag 14 may be sized to receive the protrusion 56 extending within the recess 22 of the base. In certain embodiments, the protrusion 56 may engage the recess 22 to help secure the hang tag 14 within the recess 22. When the hang tag 14 is pivoted to the second position, the tab 52 may pass over the projection 64 of the lower surface 62 and into a second opening 66 that communicates with the opening 54 of the base 12. The base 12 may have an inner surface 68 that acts as a stop to prevent the hang tag 14 from pivoting too far. For example, the top surface 70 of the second end 46 may be parallel to the top surface 36 of the cover and/or the top surface 38 of the base 12, allowing the cover 16 to be easily mounted on the base 12 in the second position. The consumer may use the storage and display assembly 10 as a travel case. The hanging tag 14 may also facilitate hanging the storage and display assembly 10 on a shower hook or on any other type of fixture to provide safe and convenient access.
