Description

Method, central unit and system for providing communication functions in a vehicle
Technical Field
The present disclosure relates to a method for providing a communication function in a vehicle, a central unit for providing a communication function in a vehicle and a system for providing a communication function in a vehicle. In particular, the present disclosure relates to providing communication capabilities in a vehicle, such as a vehicle, with flexibility for a user.
Background
Networking of modern vehicles, for example, with the internet continues to gain importance. For example, cloud-based services may be provided for users in vehicles. In order to be able to use this and other services, the vehicle comprises a communication module which communicates, for example, using the SIM card and the digital certificate present on the SIM card.
In the recent past, a trend of sharing of commonly used vehicles, such as automobiles, has been observed. Here, it may be cumbersome or impossible for a user of vehicles of a car sharing fleet to use their own communication profiles in the vehicles.
Disclosure of Invention
The object of the present disclosure is to provide a method for providing a communication function in a vehicle, a central unit for providing a communication function in a vehicle and a system for providing a communication function in a vehicle, which enable a personalized communication function, for example, in a vehicle that is temporarily in use. Furthermore, it is an object of the present disclosure to improve user friendliness when managing communication profiles.
This object is achieved by the subject matter of the independent claims. Advantageous embodiments are specified in the dependent claims.
According to a separate aspect of the present disclosure, a method for providing a communication function in a vehicle, in particular a motor vehicle, is presented. The method comprises the following steps: receiving a query of the user for using the communication profile in the vehicle in a central unit of a communication service provider in which identification information of the user is stored; receiving, in a central unit of a vehicle administration (for example, the rear end of a vehicle manufacturer), a query of a central unit of a communication service provider for providing a communication profile in a vehicle; and the communication profile is allowed to be provided to the vehicle by a central unit of the vehicle management section.
The communication profile is used or utilized in the vehicle. In other words, the communication profile is not only provided but also activated, e.g. via telnet, i.e. the user gets loaded and accessed of his communication profile, e.g. based on authentication in an MNO. The instructions for use can be transmitted via a back end, for example, a central unit of a communication service provider.
According to the invention, the user can load and activate, i.e. use his own communication profile, in the vehicle, even if the user does not have an account, for example at the management of the vehicle. Thus, the communication profile can be provided in a vehicle in a simple and user-friendly manner. Furthermore, a user who does not know the login details for the communication function in the vehicle can still use the communication function.
The communication service provider may be a manufacturer of the communication profile and may in particular be a Network Operator of the Mobile Network (Mobolfunkgesellschaft or Mobile Network Operator (MNO)). The communication service provider may for example allow communication in accordance with the LTE (Long-Term Evolution) standard and/or the 5G standard in the mobile network.
Preferably, the method further comprises authorizing provision of the communication profile by the user in a central unit of the communication service provider. For example, a user may query and authorize the provision of their communication profile at their communication provider without requiring other actions at the vehicle's administration or in the vehicle itself.
Preferably, the method further comprises building a technical user profile in the central unit of the vehicle management department from the user profile of the user in the central unit of the communication service provider. Thus, the identity of the user can be matched to the technical profile on the component of the vehicle management department via the communication provider, i.e. the third party. There is no need to separately identify the user in the vehicle management section.
The construction of the technical user profile in the central unit of the vehicle management department can be carried out independently and without explicit knowledge of the user, so that the user can load, install and enable his communication profile in the vehicle without great effort.
Preferably, the method further comprises exchanging data about the user and/or the vehicle between a central unit of the communication service provider and a central unit of the vehicle management department. The data may include or may be data that is required for authorizing and/or providing a communication profile in the vehicle.
Preferably, allowing the communication profile to be provided to the vehicle by the central unit of the vehicle management section includes: a message is sent to the vehicle that allows the communication profile to be loaded by a central unit of the communication service provider. With the data or information contained in the message, the vehicle can obtain, install, and enable the user's communication profile from the communication service provider.
Preferably, the communication profile is a SIM profile, and in particular, an eSIM profile for the user. SIM or eSIM (embedded subscriber identity module) is a standardized method for reliably embedding subscriber information into the modules of an instrument for telecommunications. For communication via esims, security or data confidentiality is crucial. To this end, the module contains a standardized digital certificate. There are many different certificates around the world, where esims of a particular type only function with certificates of a particular type.
According to another independent aspect of the disclosure, a Software (SW) program is presented. The software programs may be configured to execute on one or more processors and thereby perform the methods described in this document for providing communication functionality in a vehicle.
According to another independent aspect of the present disclosure, a storage medium is provided. The storage medium may include a software program configured to execute on one or more processors and thereby perform the methods for providing communication functionality in a vehicle described in this document.
According to a further independent aspect of the disclosure, a central unit, in particular a central unit of a vehicle management, for providing a communication function in a vehicle and in particular in a vehicle is presented. The central unit includes one or more processors configured to: receiving an inquiry from a central unit of a communication service provider for providing a communication profile in a vehicle, wherein identification information of a user is stored in the central unit of the communication service provider; and allows the communication profile to be provided to the vehicle.
In some implementations, the central unit of the vehicle management department can be the back end of the vehicle manufacturer, which can communicate with the vehicle and manage the functions of the vehicle.
Preferably, the one or more processors of the central unit are further configured to send a message to the vehicle allowing the communication profile to be loaded by the central unit of the communication service provider.
According to another independent aspect of the present disclosure, a system for providing a communication function in a vehicle, in particular in a motor vehicle, is presented. The system includes a central unit of a vehicle management department and includes a vehicle.
Preferably, the vehicle is a vehicle and in particular an automobile. The vehicle may be a vehicle (e.g., an automobile), a boat, or an aircraft (e.g., Drohe for passenger traffic), although not limited thereto. The term "vehicle" includes cars, vans, buses, motor homes, motorcycles, etc. for transporting persons, materials, etc. In particular, the term includes motor vehicles for people transportation.
Preferably, the vehicle comprises a communication module. The communication module may be configured for communication in accordance with an LTE (Long-Term Evolution) standard and/or a 5G standard.
In some embodiments, the communication module of the vehicle can be configured, in particular, to communicate wirelessly in the mobile network with a central unit of the vehicle management and/or a central unit of the communication service provider. Communication via other general or future communication techniques is possible. However, the present disclosure is not limited to mobile radio standards and non-mobile radio standards may be used.
For example, the communication module is an apparatus capable of Wireless communication in a mobile network via a Local Area Network (LAN), such as a Wireless LAN (WiFi/WLAN), or via a wide area network, such as global system for mobile communications (GSM), General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), enhanced data rates for global evolution (EDGE), Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), high speed uplink packet access (HSDPA, HSUPA), Long Term Evolution (LTE), 5G, or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WIMAX).
According to a further independent aspect of the disclosure, a vehicle, in particular a vehicle, such as a motor vehicle, is specified. The vehicle comprises a communication module according to an embodiment of the disclosure.
Drawings
Embodiments of the present disclosure are illustrated in the figures and described further below.
FIG. 1 shows a flow diagram of a method for providing communication functionality in a vehicle according to an embodiment of the present disclosure; and
fig. 2 schematically illustrates a system for providing communication functionality in a vehicle according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
Detailed description of the preferred embodiments
In the following, the same reference numerals are used for identical and identically acting elements, unless otherwise noted.
Fig. 1 shows a flow diagram of a method 100 for providing communication functionality in a vehicle according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The method 100 may be implemented by corresponding software executable by one or more processors (e.g. CPU).
The method 100 comprises: receiving a query of the user for using the communication profile in the vehicle in a central unit of a communication service provider in which identification information of the user is stored, in block 110; in block 120, a query of a central unit of a communication service provider for providing a communication profile in a vehicle is received in a central unit of a vehicle management department (e.g., a back end of a vehicle manufacturer); and in block 130, the communication profile is allowed to be provided to the vehicle by the central unit of the vehicle management department.
Thus, the user does not have to perform a separate login in the vehicle management, e.g. the backend of the vehicle manufacturer, in order to download and activate his communication profile in the vehicle. It is possible, for example, for the user to share the vehicle using a car and not to provide a separate login for this purpose. This results in the user not being able to get a connection. According to the invention, the user can still load, install and use his communication profile in the vehicle without further effort.
Fig. 2 schematically illustrates a system 200 for providing communication functionality in a vehicle according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The vehicle may be a vehicle and in particular an automobile 10.
The subscriber 10 can communicate with the central unit 210 of the communication service provider via a first communication connection 1. The central unit 210 of the communication service provider can communicate with the central unit 220 of the vehicle management department via the second communication connection 2. The central unit 220 of the vehicle management department can communicate with the vehicle 20 or the communication module 22 of the vehicle 20 via the third communication connection 3.
The first communication connection 1 and/or the second communication connection 2 and/or the third communication connection 3 can be implemented, for example, using a mobile network. The mobile network may be, for example, an LTE network or a 5G network.
According to an embodiment of the disclosure, the central unit 210 of the communication service provider, in which the identification information of the user is stored, receives an inquiry from the user 10 for using the communication profile in the vehicle 20. The central unit 220 of the vehicle management department (e.g. the back end of the vehicle manufacturer) then receives an inquiry of the central unit 210 of the communication service provider for providing a communication profile in the vehicle 20. The central unit 220 of the vehicle management department then allows the communication profile to be provided to the vehicle 20.
In particular, the central unit 220 of the vehicle management section may give a remote start instruction. The remote start instruction is initiated by the central unit 220 of the vehicle management, wherein the user does not enforce authorization in the vehicle management, but at a third party, i.e. the communication service provider. The technical ID in the vehicle management unit can always be applied to the ID of the communication service provider.
When the instruction is sent via the central unit 210 of the communication service provider, the corresponding ID may match the technical ID of the vehicle management section.
The vehicle management portion then sends instructions to a central eSIM component in the vehicle, for example, via an eSIM controller of the central unit 220 of the vehicle management portion. This component in the vehicle can accomplish the task of performing eSIM operations on the respective technology IDs after a successful login in the vehicle and sending an instruction to a profile manager (LPA) to activate the communication profile. Thus, the user's willingness to query, typically via login, is discarded and implied by the backend instruction. Similar may apply to the disarming of the communication profile and/or the clearing of the communication profile.
In some implementations, the vehicle 20 can download the communication profile via a direct communication connection (not shown) between the vehicle 20 and the central unit 210 of the communication service provider. Alternatively, the vehicle 20 may download the communication profile from the central unit 210 of the communication service provider via an indirect communication connection, for example via the central unit 220 of the vehicle administration.
According to the invention, the user is able to use his own communication profile in the vehicle, even if the user does not have an account, for example at the management of the vehicle. Thus, the communication profile can be provided in a vehicle in a simple and user-friendly manner. Furthermore, a user who does not know the login details for the communication function in the vehicle can still use the communication function.
Although the invention has been shown and described in detail with reference to a preferred embodiment, the invention is not limited to the disclosed example and other variants can be derived therefrom by the person skilled in the art without departing from the scope of protection of the invention. It is therefore clear that a large number of variation possibilities exist. It is likewise clear that the embodiments mentioned by way of example in fact merely show examples which should not be understood in any way as limiting, for example, to the scope of protection, application possibilities or configurations of the invention. Rather, the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings illustrate the exemplary embodiments and enable those skilled in the art to embody the exemplary embodiments, wherein various changes may be made in the function and arrangement of elements described in the exemplary embodiments without departing from the scope of protection defined by the claims and their legal equivalents, such as further elaboration in the specification, given the knowledge of one skilled in the art in understanding the disclosed inventive concept.
