Description

Apparatus and method for rating data matrix codes on parts
Technical Field
The invention relates to a device and a method for rating a data matrix code on a part.
Background
A Data Matrix Code (DMC) is a two-dimensional matrix code (two-dimensional code) capable of encoding a large amount of data in a narrow space. Fig. 1A shows an example of a data matrix code 100.
For example, in industrial production, a DMC may typically be placed on a part to identify information associated with the part, including, but not limited to, model number, lot, etc. This can be seen in the data matrix codes 100', 100 "of fig. 1B and 1C.
The quality of the DMC itself is critical and can be evaluated on a scale (e.g., a scale a to a scale F). Parameters characterizing quality may include, for example, overall quality, cell contrast, axial non-uniformity, grid non-uniformity, and the like. Evaluation requires measurement and ranking of defined parameters, such as those described above. With respect to DMC setup and use, the ranking results can be utilized for diagnostics and process control. For example, it can be used to characterize the read performance that a DMC should have in various environments. This is because different types of reading devices are used under different conditions in practical applications, and the result of reading of the DMC is confirmed to be acceptable by evaluation.
Therefore, the parts are generally subjected to sampling inspection to evaluate the grade of DMC quality, and in the case where a predetermined grade is not satisfied, adjustment of setting means, process, and the like of the two-dimensional code may be required.
In view of the complexity of the structure of the part and the diversity of surface characteristics, in order to accurately evaluate the quality grade of the two-dimensional code, the prior art needs to be improved.

For example, for some constructed parts, the data matrix code surrounding surface thereon is reflective, for some constructed parts, the data matrix code surrounding color thereon is similar to the data matrix code color, and for some constructed parts, the data matrix code surrounding surface thereon is rougher. Thus, it may be necessary to control the light source differently (using different monochromatic or polychromatic light combinations, each of which may have the same or different intensities) for the proper illumination of the part to be inspected. On the other hand, the control of the light source can be carried out in a feedback manner, for example, in the case of objections to conventional measurement results (evaluation results are significantly different from expected results) or defects in which more clear details are desired to be highlighted, so that the properties of the data matrix code itself are confirmed more accurately for the purpose of rating studies. In this way, the versatility and convenience of the overall apparatus are improved.
In the present invention, a frictional damping effect with respect to attitude adjustment is preferably provided, thereby facilitating, in particular, fine-grained attitude adjustment.
In the present invention, a locking action with respect to position adjustment is preferably provided, so that a certain fail-safe is obtained, so that the detection device is less prone to unintentionally sliding to the end of travel, collision/impact occurring, adversely affecting the associated components. In particular, with a normally closed pneumatic caliper, upon loss of power (and thus loss of pressure due to a disconnected air supply), the pneumatic caliper can quickly respond to return to a braking state.

Referring now to fig. 1A, fig. 1A shows an example of a data matrix code 100. As in the background section at the outset, a Data Matrix Code (DMC) is a two-dimensional matrix code (two-dimensional code) that is capable of encoding a large amount of data in a narrow space. For example, the data matrix code 100 shown in fig. 1A may be interpreted as "abcdabd".
In utilizing DMC, it is often necessary to rate its quality. For example, comparing the data matrix codes 100', 100 "on the parts in FIG. 1B and FIG. 1C, the latter is visually more distinct than the former. Therefore, quality rating is necessary. However, the structure of the part in which the DMC is disposed may be complicated, the surface characteristics may vary, and the like, which may present challenges in assessing the quality rating of the DMC.
The present application provides an improved apparatus and method for rating data matrix codes on parts.
Referring now to FIG. 2, FIG. 2 illustrates a schematic diagram of at least a portion of an apparatus 1 for rating data matrix codes on a part according to some embodiments of the present invention. The device 1 comprises detection means 3. The detection means 3 comprise a camera 4 and a light source 5. The camera 4 is configured to perform image acquisition of at least the data matrix code of the part to be detected. The light source 5 is configured to emit light of at least two different colors for illumination of the part to be inspected, according to a control. As shown in fig. 2, an exemplary part P to be inspected, provided with a data matrix code 100' (not drawn in detail for the sake of simplicity), is placed in the inspection space S, irradiated by the light source 5 and subjected to image acquisition by the camera 4. In the embodiment shown in fig. 2, the exemplary part P to be inspected is a simple cuboid, with a data matrix code 100' disposed on the top surface of the cuboid. However, the actual part may have a complex shape, and the data matrix code disposed thereon may be oriented in other directions. Thus, the detection device 3 can adjust the position and attitude (e.g., within the detection space S), and can maintain its position and attitude by default without exogenous intervention.
According to the embodiment of fig. 2, the light source 5 comprises a housing 50 expanding from a first end towards a second end along a central longitudinal axis, wherein the housing is frusto-conical. Of course, the housing may also be formed in another configuration. For example, fig. 3 shows a schematic view of at least a part of a light source 5 of an apparatus 1 for rating a data matrix code on a part according to some embodiments of the present invention. According to the embodiment of fig. 3, the light source 5 comprises a housing 50 expanding from a first end towards a second end along a central longitudinal axis, wherein the housing is a stepped cylinder. Furthermore, the light source 5 of fig. 3 may further comprise a mating tab 55 extending from an end of the light source 5 facing away from the light emission direction.
Referring now to fig. 4, fig. 4 shows an end view of at least a portion of a light source 5 of an apparatus 1 for rating a data matrix code on a part according to some embodiments of the present invention. In particular, the end view is a view from the second end against the light source 5. The light source 5 is arranged to surround the camera 4. Preferably, the visual axis of the camera 4 substantially coincides with the central longitudinal axis of the light source 5. In this way, alignment adjustment of the camera 4 and the light source 5 with respect to the data matrix code on the part may be facilitated. In other words, in these and other embodiments, the camera 4 and the light source 5 may be integrally mounted/fixed.
According to the embodiment of fig. 4, the light source 5 comprises a housing 50 extending from a first end to a second end and at least two, in particular a plurality of, light emitting elements arranged inside the housing 50 at different positions. Preferably, the main emission direction of the light emitting element may be at an oblique angle to the central longitudinal axis of the light source, i.e. may be directed towards the second end at an oblique angle, in other words, the main emission direction may not be parallel to the central longitudinal axis of the light source. As shown in fig. 4, the light emitters are formed as a strip of light rings, in particular four strips of light rings 51a, 51b, 51c, 51d, arranged one after the other along a central longitudinal axis of the light source 5, wherein a given strip emits light of a given color. Preferably, the light strips 51a, 51b, 51c, 51d may each be provided with a plurality of light beads 511a, 511b, 511c, 511d, such as, but not limited to, LED light beads. In the same lamp strip 51a, 51b, 51c, 51d, the lamp beads 511a, 511b, 511c, 511d are arranged according to a certain pattern, in particular are substantially uniformly distributed in the circumferential direction, and are substantially aligned in the direction orthogonal to the circumferential direction, forming a three-turn annular sub-band. Of course, the beads may also be unevenly distributed in the circumferential direction and/or at least partially staggered in a direction orthogonal to the circumferential direction and/or form other forms of less than three or more than three annular sub-bands, even in addition to annular sub-bands. The arrangement patterns of the lamp beads 511a, 511b, 511c, 511d are substantially the same for the different lamp strips 51a, 51b, 51c, 51 d. Of course, the arrangement patterns of the lamp beads belonging to different lamp strips may also be at least partially different.
According to a preferred embodiment, the light source 5 comprises light emitting elements emitting white light, red light, green light and blue light, respectively. In particular, as shown in fig. 4, the light strip 51a emits red light (high angle); the light strip 51b emits green light (medium angle); the light strip 51c emits white light (medium and low angle); the light strip 51d emits blue light (low angle). Different colors can be irradiated from different angles, so that the three-dimensional information of the part to be detected can be effectively highlighted. Preferably, in terms of control, the light-emitting members (the light strips 51a, 51b, 51c, 51d) may emit in combination, in addition to emitting individually, so as to emit light of other colors, for example, based on the principle of three primary colors.
According to a preferred embodiment, the light that the light source 5 is capable of emitting, in particular light of each color, has an adjustable intensity.
Indeed, in these and other embodiments, the camera 4 itself may have a flash and/or a position light, etc. Thus, the light source 5 does not belong to such a flash and/or positioning light or the like, but additionally is a discrete feature with respect to the camera 4 and/or its flash illumination and positioning illumination or the like.
For the adjustment and locking of the position and attitude of the apparatus 1, the apparatus 1 comprises an attitude adjusting device 6 and a position adjusting device 7, the detecting device 3 is coupled to the attitude adjusting device 6, and the attitude adjusting device 6 is coupled to the position adjusting device 7.

As shown in fig. 6A and 6B, a damping member formed as a damping fin 601 is provided in a nesting portion 612 between the first portion 61a and the second portion 61B of the first section 61 of the posture adjustment device 6, a damping member formed as a damping fin 602 is provided in a nesting portion 622 between the first portion 62a and the second portion 62B of the second section 62 of the posture adjustment device 6, and a damping member formed as a damping fin 603 is provided in a hinge portion between the first section 61 and the second section 62 of the posture adjustment device 6. Preferably, at least one damping member (e.g., damping fins 601, 602, 603) is compressed using a spring or screw. In this way, even if wear occurs, it can still function effectively before it must be replaced at last. As shown in fig. 6A and 6B, the damper pieces 601 and 602 receive the action of the springs 603 and 604 on one surface, respectively, and abut against the (inner) flange of the corresponding portion on the other surface. The damping plate 603 receives the action of the screw 605 on one side and abuts the (inner) surface of the respective fork on the other side.
