Background
The snapshot technique can complete a data backup without a complete copy of the data and can roll back the data to the state at snapshot creation at some point in the future. This means that no matter how large the data to be backed up is, the snapshot creation can be performed in a short time, and the created data snapshot does not need to occupy a large storage space. Therefore, creating a snapshot is a preferred solution for daily backup of data, and usually, depending on the application's requirement on data validity, a snapshot of a volume needs to be created daily, even every few hours, so as to restore the volume after a system error occurs, thereby reducing loss.
In the storage field, a user performs operation and management of storage services through management software, wherein the operation and management comprises strategy issuing of timing snapshots. Different timing strategies (daily strategy, weekly strategy and monthly strategy) are set for a certain volume by management software, then a timer is set, a polling strategy is timed to see whether the strategy requirement is met, and when the strategy requirement is met, volume-based snapshot creation is carried out; if not, the next round of polling is performed.
The existing timing snapshot needs a user to set a timing strategy and a timing polling strategy to meet the conditions, the timing polling sometimes cannot establish a snapshot volume on time, the timeliness has deviation, and potential threats are caused to data security.

As shown in fig. 5, the apparatus further includes a configuration unit 4, where the configuration unit 4 is configured to configure a timing policy for a volume, and set the timing policy as an attribute of the volume.

The steps in the above-described method embodiment 1 of the present invention are implemented in the monitoring processing layer of the management software.

configuring a timing strategy for the volume, and setting the timing strategy as the attribute of the volume.
