Description

Multi-purpose and recyclable containment system and related method
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a versatile and recyclable containment system for filling, hermetically storing, handling, transferring, transporting and unloading large quantities of bulk material; and related methods.
Background
Today, systems and methods for carrying and transporting bulk materials seek not only efficiency and effectiveness during the filling and transport of such products, but also equally relevant aspects (such as product protection by hermetic storage, efficiency with regard to handling, transfer, proper unloading of the products) and also further even more relevant aspects (such as traceability and control of the state of their products) and combine these elements with equally relevant aspects and further even more relevant aspects. And finally, the environmental impact caused by the operation (discharge, spillage, etc.), the life cycle and disposal of the materials involved, and the manner of operation.
In this context, with respect to the systems or structures currently used for filling or loading and transporting bulk materials, the main systems or structures are those known as big bags, big bags or formally as Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBCs). These systems have many variations in their handling systems, but they do not allow for large quantities of bulk material to be used, do not exhibit sufficient efficiency in operation, and are not generally designed to be reusable.
In light of the above, there is a need in the art to have a versatile and recyclable container for filling, hermetically storing, handling, transferring, transporting and storing large quantities of bulk material that allows for rapid transfer of solid bulk material between different modes of transport such as trains, trucks or ships with minimal movement, allowing for traceability thereof and keeping it free from contamination factors without the need to replace media or containers, thereby achieving a reduction in operating costs and use of load transfer equipment such as conveyor belts, front end loaders or dredgers, thereby avoiding losses due to load transfer.
In summary, it is desirable to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of current systems for filling, hermetically storing, handling, transferring, transporting, and discharging large quantities of bulk materials.
In reviewing and analyzing the prior art, in the closest documents relating to the subject of the present invention we can see documents US5458419A, US6974783B2 and US2016185521a1, in which big bag systems or traditional flexible containers are described, as well as systems made of antistatic fibers, ultimately proposing different technical applications for the invention in question.
In addition, the prior art discloses in document GB2121467 a container or silo for bulk materials such as flour, consisting of a flexible bag suspended on a supporting frame, which constitutes a different technical solution from the present invention, which does not solve the technical problems proposed in the present patent application.
On the other hand, document CN202321275U discloses a traditional flexible container having special retaining features to confer greater resistance, but which uses different technical elements to do this, which constitutes a different technical solution from the present invention, which is why it does not solve the above mentioned technical problems.
Finally, the prior art disclosed in document CN208915910U shows an external structure, but the technical means of the invention do not solve the technical problems posed by the described case.
In short, as can be observed in the prior art cited and described previously, there is no effective solution to the exposed technical problem relating to allowing a rapid material transfer of bulk material between different modes of transport, such as trains, trucks or ships, with minimal movement, allowing traceability of the material and keeping it free from polluting elements, without the need to replace media or containers, thus achieving a reduction in the operating costs and the use of cargo transfer equipment, such as conveyor belts, front-end loaders or buckets, avoiding losses, potential cross-contamination and emissions due to the transfer of the cargo.
Disclosure of Invention
The main object of the present invention consists of a versatile and recyclable containment system for filling, hermetically storing, handling, transferring, transporting and unloading large quantities of bulk material, which allows rapid transfer of bulk material between different modes of transport, such as trains, trucks or ships, with minimal movement, allowing traceability of the material by technical elements and keeping it free from polluting elements, without the need to replace media or containers, thus achieving a reduction of operating costs and the use of cargo transfer equipment, such as conveyor belts, front-end loaders or dredgers, thus avoiding losses due to load transfer; and related methods.
The basis of the present patent application consists of a versatile container system, that is to say, which solves the problem of handling bulk materials in large quantities. In the case of industries handling large volumes, the main technical aspects and needs to be solved by the present invention are to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of storage and transport of bulk materials, the ability to store and transport bulk materials, create advantages with respect to pure transport systems (flatbed trucks, silo trucks, etc.) or pure storage systems (silos or floor piles and storage yards).
In this case, the system and method of the present invention does not require media or container replacement, thereby saving operating costs and the use of load transfer devices (conveyor belts, wheel loaders, excavators, etc.). Also, the present invention avoids product loss and cross contamination due to cargo transfers.
In addition to the above, the system and method of the present invention has multi-mode features in both its design and its operation, allowing for use and rapid transfer between different modes of transport (train, truck, ship). Which has the ability to stack large quantities of goods in a closed manner with minimal handling movements and which keeps the product free from contaminating elements. As a closed form, it allows traceability of the product throughout its chain.
Furthermore, the system and method of the present invention solves the environmental problem, since the container systems of the prior art are single-use, whereas the system of the present invention is designed for multiple use and can be recycled at the end of its life cycle.
Finally, the system and method avoid the need for large silos that are typically used instead, as the form of the present invention allows for scalability and flexibility to be achieved with a small fraction of the silo construction cost; it solves the compaction and space usage problems allowing different types of products to be stored in the same space without mixing with each other.
The invention can be generalized as a cylindrical bag made of two main components, an "outer bag or mesh" and a "liner" or containment bag, attached at the top in a semi-permanent manner.
The outer netting is made from a high strength polymer webbing designed to provide the strength necessary to support the weight of the filled container. The net has a handle on its upper part, by means of which the bag to be carried is suspended. The net has in its lower part a protective base against wear and a drainage system comprising a number of triangles fixed at a central point to close the opening and being unraveled to release the load.
On the other hand, the inner structure, containing bag or liner (2) is made of a material for containing the bulk material according to the material characteristics and requirements (such as moisture sensitivity, hygroscopicity, particle size, etc.). The inner structure, containment bag or liner (2) has two ports, one at the top for loading and one at the bottom for unloading. The latter is supported to and concentric with the drainage system of the base of the outer net.
The triangular system and the internal structure, the mouth of the containment bag or liner (2) remain closed when the container is loaded. After loading, the upper port is strapped and the container is completely closed.
For unloading, the string (1.d.i) with the pin on the end should be pulled, which will release the loop (1.c.ii) of the triangle (1.c.i) and the discharge string (2.b.i) of the liner and the opening, and thus enable the product to be unloaded under the action of gravity.

the outer net (1) is a structure that gives the device mechanical resistance and its body (1.a) is made of a series of webbings or slings made of a polymeric material with high mechanical resistance and resistance to climatic factors, in particular to ultraviolet radiation. The arrangement of the straps of the body allows to withstand the weight of the structure when lifting it (vertical webbing 1.a.i) and the outward pressure when loading (horizontal webbing 1.a.ii), without damaging the internal structure, containment bag or liner (2), thereby avoiding unnecessary tensions in the internal structure, containment bag or liner (2).
The retaining handle or ring (1.b) is made of a combination of vertical webbing joined at the top and lined with a protective element (1.b.i), the protective element (1.b.i) avoiding friction of the retaining structure with the handle. The incorporation of webbing for the construction of the handle attempts to distribute the weight of the load evenly, avoiding load concentration points.
At the lower part of the system, the vertical webbing is redirected inwards (towards the centre of the base), joined together by concentric rings, on these elements there is a protective base (1.c) made of laminated polymeric material with high abrasion and moisture resistance, said protective base (1.c) trying to protect the containing bag or liner (2) and the product from damage caused by friction, sharp elements and/or water. At the central region of the protective base, the external net structure has triangular elements called containment triangles (1, c.i) which, when closed, form polyhedrons whose purpose is to cover the base of the containment bag or liner (2) and its discharge opening (2. b). At the centre of the base and attached to each end of the triangle (1.c.i), there are the same number of closed loops (1.c.ii), said closed loops (1.c.ii) being joined together by a string forming a loop, which, when opened by the opening system (1.d), releases the loop, opening the discharge device.
The discharge pull string system (1.d) comprises a series of elements, the main elements of which include a string (1.d.i) with a pin (1.d.ii) at the end, the function of said string (1.d.i) being to maintain the system closed and secure when the container is loaded with product, and to initiate the opening of the discharge system when removed. As a way of avoiding accidental activation of the system, the cord is inserted inside the lid (1.d.iii), the lid (1.d.iii) being opened only when unloaded. The opposite end of the pull cord is rolled up and inserted into the undercut (1.d.iv) to avoid workers standing under load to operate the system. The recesses are suitably marked to facilitate handling.
An internal structure, containment bag or liner (2) is present on the inner layer of the container, whose function is to contain the product and protect it from potential contaminants and infectious agents and from potential spillage of the product. In addition to the body, the structure has two main elements, namely a loading port (2.a) and a discharge port (2. b). Both the loading mouth (2.a) and the discharge mouth (2.b) contain closing/strapping cords which prevent the product from being exposed to the environment after being loaded and closed, these mouths must always be closed, and the upper mouth is opened only during loading and the lower mouth is opened only during unloading. Further, in one embodiment of the invention, the structure has a valve (2.c) for taking a sample, said valve (2.c) being fixed to said body and having a cover/cap that allows insertion of a sampler or other means such as a temperature, humidity probe or sensor or the like.
The system resides in a versatile and recyclable containment system for filling, close storage, handling, transferring, transporting and discharging large quantities of bulk material that allows rapid transfer of the bulk material between different modes of transport such as trains, trucks or ships with minimal movement, allowing traceability of the material and keeping it free from contamination factors without the need to replace media or containers, achieving a reduction in operating costs and the use of cargo transfer equipment such as conveyor belts, front end loaders or buckets, avoiding waste due to cargo transfer.
As indicated, the system comprises:
a) an outer netting structure (1), said outer netting structure (1) imparting mechanical resistance to said system, said outer netting structure (1) comprising:
i. a body or holding unit (1.a), said body or holding unit (1.a) being made of a series of webbings or slings made of a polymeric material having high mechanical resistance and weathering, in particular ultraviolet radiation resistance;
a holding handle (1. b);
a protective base (1. c);
discharge pull rope system (1. d);
b) an internal structure, containment bag or liner (2) present on the inner layer of the system, the function of the internal structure, containment bag or liner (2) being to contain the bulk material and to protect the bulk material from potential contaminants and infectious agents, as well as from potential spillage of the bulk material.
In a preferred embodiment of the system, the body or holding unit (1.a) comprises:
-vertical webbing (1.a.i) made of a high-resistance polymer, said vertical webbing (1.a.i) being susceptible to withstand the weight of a loaded container system; the vertical webbing (1.a.i) is reoriented towards the centre of the base, joined to each other by concentric rings, and on these elements there is a protective base (1. c); and
-horizontal webbing (1.a.ii) made of a high resistance polymer, said horizontal webbing (1.a.ii) allowing to withstand outward pressure when loading the container system, thereby avoiding tension in the inner structure, containment bag or liner (2).
In other preferred embodiments, it is proposed that the containment system is suspended from the holding handle (1.b), forming a combination of vertical webbing (1.a.i), the vertical webbing (1.a.i) being engaged at the top and lined with a protective element (1.b.i), the protective element (1.b.i) avoiding friction of the support and lifting structure with the handle. The incorporation of the vertical straps (1.a.i) in the upper portion causes the handle to enable the weight of the load to be distributed evenly, avoiding high tensile stress points. On the other side, the protective base (1.c) is made of laminated polymeric material with high abrasion and moisture resistance and is intended to protect the internal structure or lining (2) and the contained bulk material from damaging influences that may be caused by friction, sharp elements and/or water; and at the central region of said protective base (1.c), the external net structure has triangular elements called containment flaps or containment triangles (1.c.i) which in the closed position form a polyhedron whose purpose is to cover the internal structure, the base of the containment bag or liner (2) and its discharge opening (2. b); at the polyhedron of the ejection mechanism, located at the centre of the previously mentioned protective base (1.c), a containment flap or triangle (1.c.i) is fixed to each side of the polyhedron and connected to each other at the opposite vertex where each flap has a closed loop (1.c.ii) attached to it. The connection between each loop is made using a closing cord (1.c.iii), which passes through each loop forming a loop, which when opened by an opening system (1.d) releases the closing loop (1.c.ii) opening the ejection mechanism at the protective base (1. c).
In other preferred embodiments, it is proposed that the protective base (1.c) comprises:
-a containment triangle (1, c.i), said containment triangle (1, c.i) corresponding to a triangular piece closed to form a polyhedron intended to cover the containment bag or liner (2) and its discharge opening (2. b); the containment flap is secured at the center point to close the opening and separate to release the load;
-closed loops (1.c.ii), said closed loops (1.c.ii) being joined together by a closed rope forming a loop; and
-a closure string (1. c.iii).
In other embodiments of the invention, the drain pull string system (1.d) comprises:
-a cord (1, d.i), the cord (1, d.i) with an opening pin (1.d.ii) at its end;
-an opening pin (1.d.ii), the function of which (1.d.ii) is to keep the system stationary when it is internally loaded with bulk material, which opening pin (1.d.ii) when removed initiates the opening of the discharge pull cord system;
-a cord cover (1.d.iii), said cord cover (1.d.iii) avoiding accidental triggering of said opening actuator (1.d), said cord (1.d.i) being inserted under said cord cover (1.d.iii), said cord cover (1.d.iii) being opened only upon ejection; and
-a side recess (1.d.iv) where the end of the rope opposite the unloading pin is housed, in order to avoid the need to have a person stand under load to operate the system; the undercut (1.d.iv) is suitably marked to facilitate handling.
In other forms of system, the internal structure, containment bag or liner (2) must comprise:
i. a filling or loading port (2.a) comprising:
-a filling or loading port closure rope (2.a.i) which enables the bulk material not to be exposed to the outside after loading, for which purpose it must be always closed or strapped and only opened during loading; and
-an exhaust outlet (2.b) concentric with and supported by the exhaust system of the protective base (1.c) of the outer mesh structure (1), and comprising:
-a closure cord (2, b.i) of the discharge hose, which remains closed at all times and is opened only during the discharge.
Finally, in other embodiments of the invention, the cylindrical morphology and high strength provided by the outer mesh of the container enables the container to be stacked at three or more levels in the height direction; it allows to maintain the main (external) structure and to modify only the internal structure, containing bag or liner (2), so as to be able to be used with different types of products; the tapered shape of the load port mitigates inefficiencies caused by the angle of repose of certain materials, and thus enables the container to be quickly and efficiently filled and the load subsequently flattened; operating the ejection system from one side of the container rather than below the container, and the covered protection of the ejection actuation mechanism allows safe operation; and the internal structure, containing bag or liner (2) is made of a material designed to contain the product according to the requirements and characteristics of the product to be loaded.
Furthermore, a method of operating a multipurpose and recyclable containment system for filling, hermetically storing, handling, transferring, transporting and storing bulk materials is presented, the containment system allowing easy transfer of bulk materials between different modes of transport such as trains, trucks or ships with minimal movement, allowing traceability thereof and keeping it free from contamination factors, without the need to replace media or containers, thereby achieving a reduction in operating costs and the use of cargo transfer equipment such as conveyor belts, front end loaders or buckets, thereby avoiding losses due to load transfer, wherein the method comprises:
the method includes, for loading:
