The term "one embodiment" means "at least one embodiment"; the term "another embodiment" means "at least one additional embodiment," and so forth.
According to a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a connector assembly comprising: a first connector, comprising: at least one terminal slot configured to receive at least one wire connection terminal; and a latch configured to latch the first connector and the second connector together; and a position assurance device configured to be removably mounted within the first connector, the position assurance device comprising: a body; a blocking member provided on the body and configured to block the at least one connection terminal received in the at least one terminal slot from moving within the at least one terminal slot when the position assurance device is installed within the first connector; an abutment provided on the body and configured to abut against the latch of the first connector to make latching of the first connector and the second connector more stable when the position assurance device is mounted within the first connector; and a fastener provided on the body and configured to fasten the position assurance device to the first connector when the position assurance device is installed within the first connector and the first connector is latched with the second connector.
The present invention will be described in detail with reference to fig. 1 to 11.
As shown in fig. 1 and 2, the connector assembly 100 includes a first connector 101 and a position assurance device 102, the first connector 101 including a housing 101a and a latch 101b.
The housing 101a includes four terminal slots 101c, each terminal slot 101c extending along the housing 101a from one end of the housing 101a to the other end in a direction 101J as shown in fig. 2 and configured to receive a wiring terminal, a card slot 101d being formed on an upper surface of each terminal slot 101c, the card slot 101d having a width smaller than that of the terminal slot 101 c.
The housing 101a further comprises a pair of receiving means 101e arranged on both sides of the housing 101a in the direction 101J for receiving the position assurance means 102 such that the position assurance means 102 form a detachable connection with the housing 101a, each receiving means 101e comprising a first limit 101g and a second limit 101f.
The locking piece 101b is configured to lock the first connector 101 and the second connector (not shown in fig. 1 and 2) together. The locking piece 101b may be integrally formed with the housing 101a or may be a separate piece joined to the housing 101 a. As shown in fig. 2, the latch 101b includes a hook portion 101m and a pressing portion 101n, where the hook portion 101m may be snapped together with a latch mating piece on a mating second connector, and the pressing portion 101n may be used to be pressed to move the hook portion 101m to unlock. In another embodiment as shown in fig. 11, the connector assembly 200 includes, in addition to the components of the embodiment shown in fig. 1, a second connector 201, the second connector 201 including a latch mating member (not shown in fig. 11) configured to form a latch fit with the latch member 101b of the first connector when the position assurance device 102 is installed within the first connector 101 and the second connector 201 is installed on the first connector 101. Wherein, a gap 101h (as shown in fig. 9 and 10) is formed between the latch 101b and the upper surface of the housing 101 a. It should be appreciated that in another embodiment, the housing 101 may include 1, 2, or any number of terminal slots. It should be appreciated that the catch 101b herein may be any suitable engagement means such as a latch.
As shown in fig. 2 to 7, the position assurance device 102 includes a body 102a, a stopper 102b, a fastener 102c, and a tongue piece 102d. A pair of cantilevers 102e and a tongue piece 102d are formed outwardly at one side surface of the body 102a, and one end of the pair of cantilevers 102e away from the body 102a is provided with a pair of bosses 102h extending perpendicularly to the cantilevers 102e and outwardly with respect to the pair of cantilevers 102e for receiving the position assurance device 102 in the receiving device 101e of the housing 101 a.
When the boss 102h is located at the first limit position 101g, the position assurance device 102 is in the locked position, the blocking member 102b is received in the terminal slot 101c through the catching groove 101d and blocks the terminal received in the terminal slot 101c from moving within the terminal slot 101c, the fastening member 102c is engaged with the catching groove 101d, thereby fastening the position assurance device 102 to the first connector 101, the tongue piece 102d is inserted in the gap 101h a distance to abut the pressing portion 101n of the latch member 101b so that the pressing portion 101n cannot be pressed and unlocked, but the first connector and the second connector maintain a stable latch fit, and it is understood that in an embodiment in which the first connector and the second connector are latched with each other through the latch piece and the latch matching member, the tongue piece 102d abuts the latch member 101b to function to prevent the first connector from being separated from the second connector, in other words, so that the first connector and the second connector maintain a stable latch fit.
When the boss 102h is located at the second limit 101f, the position assurance device is in a uninstalled position (i.e., a position withdrawn from the first connector, at which the position assurance device 102 remains connected to the housing 101a and the position assurance device 102 can be flipped up relative to the housing 101 a), the blocking member 102b is separated from the terminal, the fastener 102c is separated from the card slot 101d, and the tongue is separated from the latch 101b. In the embodiment shown in fig. 3 and 4, the boss 102h is a cylinder. It should be appreciated that the boss 102h may be other suitable shapes.

In one embodiment, the barrier 102b is a cylinder (e.g., a prism as shown in fig. 4). In one embodiment, the position assurance device 102 includes a plurality of stops 102b corresponding to the number of terminal slots 101c, each stop 102b receivable in a respective terminal slot by a card slot 101 d. In one embodiment, the position assurance device 102 includes a plurality of fasteners 102c corresponding in number to the terminal slots 101c, and the stoppers 102b are provided in one-to-one correspondence with the fasteners 102c and opposite to each other at the lower surface of the body 102 a. In one embodiment, when the number of the stoppers 102b and the terminal slots 101c is two or more, the number of the fasteners 102c may be only two or may be two or more. In one embodiment, the first portion 103a and the second portion 103b of the snap block form an inverted trapezoidal structure. It should be appreciated that in another embodiment, the tongue 102d may be replaced with any other suitable abutment capable of abutting the catch 101b.
According to a second aspect of the invention, a method of assembling a connector assembly according to the first aspect of the invention, the method comprising the steps of:
1) At least one terminal is fitted into the at least one terminal slot of the first connector 101.
