Description

Fan rotating speed control method and system
Technical Field
The invention relates to the field of server heat dissipation, in particular to a method and a system for controlling the rotating speed of a fan.
Background
The heat dissipation problem is an important problem to be solved in server development. On one hand, energy waste needs to be reduced, and on the other hand, the heat dissipation of the server needs to be ensured to be normal, so that each device and external equipment can work normally.
The conventional heat dissipation solution is to calculate the rotation speed of a fan according to a predetermined algorithm by a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) according to a fixed-point temperature in a server, and then control the fan to achieve the purpose of heat dissipation. The fixed point temperature includes a Central Processing Unit (CPU) temperature, an ambient temperature, a PCIE (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) device temperature, and the like, and the predetermined algorithm includes a linear algorithm, a discrete function, a PID (proportional-Integral-derivative) algorithm, and the like. The scheme can solve the problem of heat dissipation under the condition of saving energy.
However, the above method of controlling the fan speed by the BMC according to the fixed point temperature and the predetermined algorithm has the following disadvantages:
(1) In the early development stage, various parameters of a fan control algorithm cannot be timely given by related technicians, so that the rotating speed of the fan is unreasonable, the temperature of a CPU or related devices is too high, the service life of the CPU or related devices is influenced, or a server is shut down and cannot be normally used, and the project development progress is influenced;
(2) In the later operation and maintenance stage of the server, the cloud storage environment of the user is very complex, and the control algorithm parameters in the BMC cannot meet the actual conditions under many conditions, so that the system cannot be started, and the user operation is seriously influenced. Even if the BMC control parameters are adjusted according to the user cloud storage environment, development time is required.
(3) The rotating speed before the BMC is not started is too high, so that the cloud storage environment is very noisy, and the health of operators is influenced.
In view of the above situation, besides the BMC automatically controlling the fan speed, other fan speed control methods are also needed to solve the heat dissipation problem. The BMC is typically required to support Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) commands to set fan speed. However, this also requires the following conditions:
(1) Developers need to provide detailed setting parameters of OEM commands to users;
(2) Mounting ipmitool in the system;
(3) Determining the BMC IP of the server during remote control;
(4) The username and password of the server BMC need to be determined.
This method requires many parameters to be determined, which burdens maintenance personnel. Therefore, a need exists for a faster method of manually controlling a fan to solve this problem.
Disclosure of Invention
In order to solve the above technical problems, the present invention provides a method and a system for controlling a fan rotation speed, which can control the fan rotation speed before a baseboard management controller works normally, so as to reduce the fan noise.
In order to achieve the purpose, the invention adopts the following technical scheme:
a fan speed control method comprising:
before the baseboard management controller is started, the controller controls the rotating speed of the fan according to user control information;
after the baseboard management controller is started, the rotating speed of the fan is controlled by the baseboard management controller.
Further, when the controller does not receive the user control information, the fan is operated at full speed.
Further, the controller is a complex programmable logic device.
Further, the user control information is generated by a fan control board.
Further, the baseboard management controller controls the rotating speed of the fan according to the information of the server temperature sensor.
Furthermore, the baseboard management controller receives the user control information and the server temperature sensing information, compares the fan rotating speeds corresponding to the user control information and the server temperature sensing information, and takes the maximum value as a final fan rotating speed value to control the fan rotating speed.
The invention also provides a fan rotating speed control system, which comprises:
the controller is used for controlling the rotating speed of the fan according to the user control information before the substrate management controller is started;
and the substrate management controller is used for controlling the rotating speed of the fan.
Further, the system also includes a fan control board for generating user control information.
Further, the controller is a complex programmable logic device.
The beneficial effects of the invention are:
the invention provides a method and a system for controlling the rotating speed of a fan, which can control the rotating speed of the fan quickly and conveniently. When the server starts to run, the system is powered on, the baseboard management controller is in a starting process, and the fan is in an out-of-control state, and the fan is at full speed and has high noise. The invention can take effect when the server starts to work, and does not need to take effect after the substrate management controller works normally, a user can operate the fan control panel to control the fan, and then the controller receives the signal and controls the fan through the PWM signal according to the rotating speed set by the user, so that the rotating speed of the fan is reduced, and the aim of reducing noise is fulfilled.
Through using external fan rotational speed control panel, need not additionally change mainboard hardware design, also need not additionally occupy the space of front panel, the flexibility is stronger, need not use the OEM instruction moreover, can the noise reduction, can reduce fortune dimension personnel's working strength again.
On the other hand, after the base plate management controller controls the fan, the rotating speed set by a user can be prevented from being too low and not meeting the temperature requirements of other devices in the server, so that the working requirement of the server is met.
