Each post is configured for engagement within a groove 111 of a post of another one-piece structural frame. The web holds the struts in relative rigid spatial symmetry and thereby prevents rotation of the struts about any axis relative to any other strut attached to the web. At the bottom end of each strut is an opening configured for engagement with a top portion of the outer surface of the strut of an adjacent structural block. The unitary structural frame further comprises a plurality of webs 120 extending as vertically elongated flat portions in a first direction from the bottom of the interlocking structural frame. Each web has a first end and a second end, wherein each web is connected to one or more struts. The unitary structural frame has an additional plurality of webs extending in a direction substantially orthogonal to the first direction, each web having a first end and a second end, wherein each web is connected to one or more struts.
In one embodiment, the strut is a hollow shell having one or more side surfaces, an aperture in the bottom surface, and a top portion with or without an aperture in the top portion.
In one embodiment, a top portion of the strut engages a step portion of the bottom of another strut of an adjacent building block. In the case where the top portion has a hole, a tensioner may be placed between the blocks.
In one embodiment, the webs position and lock the struts relative to each other both in translation and in rotation.
In one embodiment, the struts and webs are formed simultaneously during the manufacturing process.
In one embodiment, spacer ribs 113 are included along the inner surface of the strut for aligning and bonding the spacers.
In one embodiment, there are overhanging ribs 130 or die locks on the side surface of the web.
In one embodiment, the spacer posts 140 are formed on opposite ends of the unitary structural frame.
In one embodiment, the plurality of struts, the one or more webs, and the one or more side surfaces are formed from one or more of: metallic materials, iron, steel, stainless steel, polymeric materials, silicone rubber, polyethylene, acrylics, polyurethane polypropylene, polymethylmethacrylate, synthetic and natural biodegradable polymers, biopolyesters, agricultural polymers, copolymers, fiber reinforced plastics, composites, wood materials, or any combination thereof.
In one embodiment, the interlocking structure block has a block body 200 with opposing top and bottom surfaces, opposing side surfaces and opposing end surfaces. The block body includes a unitary structural frame 100 embedded within the block body, with one end of the unitary structural frame being flush with the bottom surface and an opposite end of the unitary structural frame extending through the top surface of the block body.
In one embodiment, the cross-section of the struts is substantially square.
In one embodiment, the block body further includes one or more conduit apertures 210 for receiving wires, pipes, or utilities. In such embodiments, the unitary structural frame further comprises a ring aligned with each conduit. The ring may be retained to the web with small attachment elements that are also designed to keep the bulk material from falling through the frame before the bulk material is fully cured.
The present invention also provides a system 400 for interlocking structural blocks. The system includes a plurality of interlocking structural blocks 300, the plurality of interlocking structural blocks 300 being connected to one or more struts of an adjacent block by one or more struts of one block.
In one embodiment, the joints from adjacent struts of the integrated structural frame are joined together by an adhesive and fixed in position relative to each other.
In one embodiment, the adhesive comprises one or more of an epoxy, an acrylic, a cyanoacrylate, a urethane or a silicone.
In one embodiment, the adjacent surfaces of the two block bodies are joined together by the use of a mortar agent.
In one embodiment, the mortar agent comprises one or more of lime mortar, a polymer base, cement, or gypsum.
In one embodiment, the interlocking structural blocks are used to make a panel or wall structure.
In one embodiment, the interlocking structural blocks are used to make columns or beams.
The previous description of the disclosed embodiments is provided to enable any person skilled in the art to make or use the present invention. Various modifications to these embodiments will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the generic principles defined herein may be applied to other embodiments without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention. Thus, the present invention is not intended to be limited to the embodiments shown herein, but is to be accorded the full scope consistent with the claims, wherein reference to an element in the singular, such as using the article "a" or "an," is not intended to mean "one and only one" unless specifically so stated, but rather "one or more.
