Description

Container for holding animal feed
The invention relates to a container for containing animal feed, in particular wet feed, having a bottom surface and a side surface projecting from the circumference of the bottom surface, so that the animal feed can be accommodated in a receiving space formed by the bottom surface and the side surface and emptied through an opening formed by the circumference of the side surface facing away from the bottom surface. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method of filling animal feed and manufacturing a container for containing animal feed, in particular wet feed, and to a method of filling a container for containing animal feed, in particular wet feed.
It is known to package animal feed, in particular cat food, especially wet food, for example in the form of one packaging unit per portion in cans or aluminium bowls.
Furthermore, it is known to provide venting of cans, typically through the lid, but not for animal feed.
For example, US 5,439,724a discloses a lid for closing a container, wherein the lid is held on the container by a vacuum created in the container. The lid has a pressure relief vent sealed with an adhesive.
Furthermore, US 3,462,037 discloses a lid for a container in which a vacuum is maintained, wherein the lid has a wall composed of a first material and is provided with a plurality of openings arranged in clusters, and a sealing element of a second material which is located above one side of the wall in the region of the clusters of openings and comprises a plurality of portions which are each tightly accommodated in one opening, wherein one material is elastically deformable, and each desired portion of the sealing element can be removed from the associated opening by exerting a required pull-back force on the sealing element in order to achieve a pressure compensation between the container and the surrounding atmosphere.
FR 2639002 a1 discloses a method of manufacturing moulded containers by thermoforming. In this case, a cover is applied on the upper side of the vent, wherein removal of the cover allows air to enter.
DE 20117501U discloses a dispensing container for pourable products such as pudding in the form of a cup or the like. This container has a bottom in which a vent is formed, wherein the vent can be sealed and opened from the outside. In the transport state, the vent is closed by a removable sealing label.
US 4154345 a discloses a thermoplastic container having a vent structure to improve the removal of food from the container. In this case, a deep-drawn projection is provided, which can be pierced with a nail or fork to effect venting of the container bottom.
However, the various animal feed cans according to the prior art do not allow the entire contents to be removed in a substantially residue-free manner, for example, by hand, or filled with animal feed in such a possible manner, without the aid of tools or without contamination. In particular animal feed, cannot retain its shape during removal. Furthermore, the currently prevailing animal feed manufacturing methods do not allow to remove the second component animal feed paste in the form of a coating from the corresponding can, in particular in such a way that a visually appealing product is obtained. The use of cans according to the prior art is in some cases unhygienic, since access to animal feed is necessary. However, the positive properties of the known conventionally canned moist feed, in particular the high acceptance of the animals, the shelf life of the non-refrigerated preferably at least two years, and the stackability and durability of the packaging, should in particular be stored, but it should still be possible to easily open the packaging and to achieve mass production and filling or mass production, respectively.
The present invention aims to obviate or mitigate at least one of the aforementioned disadvantages of the prior art.
This object is achieved by a container of the initially described type, wherein the bottom surface is operatively connected to an opening element for opening a hole in the bottom surface. Furthermore, the above defined objects are achieved by a canned animal feed, a method for manufacturing a container of the type described herein and a method for filling a container of the type described herein with an animal feed, in particular a wet feed, wherein the animal feed is contained in a containing space of a container of the type described herein (canned food may also be used instead of canned animal feed and food may be used instead of animal feed); the method for manufacturing a container of the type described herein comprises the following steps: preferably, an inner coating is coated on the side surfaces and the bottom surface facing the receiving space, and the bottom surface is operatively connected to an opening member for opening the hole in the bottom surface; method for filling a container of the type described herein with animal feed, in particular wet feed, wherein a separating agent is applied in aerosol form to the side of the side surfaces and the bottom surface facing the receiving space, wherein the separating agent is preferably a mixture comprising 0.1-10 mass% of xanthan gum and 90-99.9 mass% of oil, in particular a mixture of 0.5-3 mass% of xanthan gum and 97-99.5 mass% of oil, in particular a mixture of substantially 1 mass% of xanthan gum and 99 mass% of oil, and the animal feed is subsequently filled into the receiving space, or a first component of the animal feed is first filled into the receiving space and a second component of the animal feed is subsequently filled into the receiving space. In this context, the term mass percent refers to the mass percent in dry mass, i.e. after removal of water.
The arrangement of the opening element, which is operatively connected to the bottom surface in order to open the hole in the bottom surface, or the method for manufacturing the respective container, respectively, makes it possible to place the container or the canned animal feed bottom surface on a surface facing upwards. Subsequently, the hole in the bottom surface can be opened with an opening element. Thus, since air can flow into the accommodation space above the animal feed through the holes, the animal feed can slide out of the container as a whole (almost) without significantly changing its shape. Furthermore, therefore, if the emptying opening is directed downwards, the animal feed can also be held in the receiving space until the aperture is opened. The inner coating is preferably applied to the side of the side and bottom surfaces facing the receiving space, the adhesion of the animal feed to the respective surface can be positively influenced and adjusted, in such a way that the animal feed can easily slide out. Advantageously, the application of the inner coating is carried out in two steps: first a primer is applied and then a non-stick coating is applied over it. The release agent, which is preferably suitable for consumption (by the respective animal), can likewise be used to positively influence the adhesion.
In a preferred embodiment of the container, the bottom surface has a hole, wherein the hole is closed by a removable opening element. Thus, in particular, the opening element represents a removable seal of the hole.
The opening element should be able to withstand the higher sterilization temperatures to which such containers are typically subjected after filling (and optionally closing) and remain sealed throughout storage, particularly when it is used to close (e.g., seal) a hole in the bottom surface. Elastic and viscoelastic materials are therefore particularly suitable materials for the opening element. It is particularly preferred that the opening element consists of a polymer or plastisol, for example: the opening element is composed of a material comprising PVC or a material comprising plastisol or silicone, or a combination thereof. It is also conceivable that the opening element is made of a different material (e.g. aluminium, plastic and/or plastic composite, etc.).
Furthermore, on the one hand, the holes to be opened and/or the holes already present in the bottom surface should be as large as possible in order to obtain the largest possible air flow rate, but on the other hand they should be as small as possible in order not to reduce the safety of the seal and the stability of the container. Furthermore, it should be able to withstand the pressure fluctuations that occur during autoclaving. Preferably, the aperture is substantially circular. In the upright position of the container, the pores parallel to the surface have an advantageous pore diameter or an advantageous average size of between 0.5mm and 10mm, preferably between 1.5mm and 4mm, in particular between 2mm and 3mm, in particular substantially 2.5 mm. With respect to the surface in the upright position of the container, it is advantageous if the pore diameter or the average size of the pores parallel to the surface in the upright position of the container is equal to 1% to 10%, in particular 3% to 6%, of the average size of the bottom surface parallel to the surface.
In the upright position the container is supported by the bottom surface with the side surfaces facing substantially upwards. The container is normally filled in this upright position. During storage of the container, the bottom surface is generally facing upwards; i.e. the container is supported, for example, with a circumference defining an emptying opening.
Alternatively, for example, a pre-punched or partially punched section can also be provided in the bottom surface, wherein the opening element serves to remove a correspondingly delimited portion of the bottom surface from the bottom surface in order to form the hole. In this case, the opening element may in particular be a projection or lifting lug or lifting projection, by means of which the delimited/pre-punched part can be removed from or pressed out of the bottom surface, respectively. Furthermore, it is conceivable to use an opening element in the form of a flap, by means of which a delimited/pre-punched part of the bottom surface can be pulled out of or torn off from the bottom surface, respectively.
Preferably, the lateral surface has an increasing cross section in the emptying direction of the container. The animal feed will therefore immediately separate from the wall during pouring and be better able to maintain its overall shape.
The emptying direction is a direction perpendicular to the bottom surface (or to the surface in the upright position of the container if the bottom surface is not substantially planar) and extending from the bottom surface towards an opening through which the animal feed can be emptied by forming the opening circumferentially away from a side surface of the bottom surface.
In a preferred embodiment, the side and bottom surfaces have substantially the shape of truncated side and top surfaces. The truncated cone is preferably a straight truncated cone, the top and bottom surfaces of which extend parallel to each other and the height of which extends perpendicular to the top surface. The container preferably has a conventional canned shape for wet cat food.
In order to ensure that the animal feed can be separated from the container as easily as possible, without residues, and is virtually integral, it is advantageous if the bottom surface and/or the side surface has an inner coating on the side facing the receiving space, wherein the inner coating preferably comprises a primer and/or a non-stick coating, the primer preferably comprising a polyester resin, in particular comprising modified and/or aluminum pigments, and/or having a surface density of 9g/m2-10g/m2And wherein the non-stick coating preferably comprises polyester, phenolic and/or polyester-phenolic and/or has a surface density of 7g/m2-9g/m2In the meantime. It is particularly advantageous that the inner surface of the container is as smooth as possible, for example microscopicallyAnd (4) smoothing. The inner coating preferably also serves to prevent the animal feed from adhering to the container at sterilization temperatures in excess of 110 ℃. In order to significantly enhance the potential effect of the inner coating, it is advantageous to coat the container with different oils and separating agents (e.g. oil and xanthan gum) prior to filling.
The protective and/or adhesive coating is preferably applied to the hole in the bottom surface in the receiving space, which hole is closed by the opening element. When corrosive potting materials are used, protective and/or adhesive coatings may be used to prevent corrosion in the pore region. The protective and/or adhesive coating may also serve to improve the adhesion of the opening device on the bottom surface, so that the opening device cannot be transferred into or onto the animal feed, for example during pouring.
In a preferred embodiment, a part of the bottom surface has a recess in the direction of the receiving space, wherein the recess contains the hole to be opened, and the opening element is preferably located within the recess and/or has a dimension in the direction opposite to the emptying direction which is smaller than the foremost point in the direction opposite to the emptying direction or the foremost side surface circumference. Thereby wear of the opening elements, for example on the conveyor belt, can be prevented.
For example, the opening element may be operatively connected to the bottom surface such that a user need only move a finger or a fingernail along the bottom surface to thereby move or lift the opening element to open the hole in this manner. The opening element may also have a tab, wherein the tab is preferably located in a recess of the bottom surface. Thus, the user can pull the tab to open the hole in the bottom surface through the opening element operatively connected to the bottom surface. For example, the opening element may also have the shape of a fin.
Advantageously, the opening element comprises an elastic or viscoelastic material, preferably polyvinyl chloride plastisol and/or silicone. It is particularly advantageous if the bottom surface comprises a hole which is closed in a sealed manner by an opening element. The production is therefore particularly simple, wherein the opening element is preferably applied to the punched hole, for example from the side facing away from the container space and from the side facing the container space.
In an advantageous embodiment, the opening elements are adhered
An outer coating to the side of the bottom surface facing away from the receiving space or to the side of the bottom surface facing away from the receiving space and
an inner coating to or coated on the side of the bottom surface facing the receiving space or optionally adhered to the inner coating around the hole to be opened, wherein the protective and/or adhesive coating preferably comprises an aluminum pigmented epoxy resin and/or has a surface density of 7g/m2-9g/m2In the meantime. The tightness of the closed bore of the opening element can thereby be improved.
It would be advantageous to provide a cover for closing an opening formed by the side surface circumference facing away from the bottom surface. In this case, the cover preferably has an edge portion (e.g. a cover ring) which is firmly connected to the side surface, and a removable pull-out portion which is detachably connected to the edge portion and preferably comprises an aluminum and/or tin-plated iron sheet and/or a plastic composite. The edge portion is permanently connected to the side surface, for example by folding or flanging. For example, the removable pull-out part may be glued or sealed on the edge part, or even be realized integrally with the edge part, in which case a predetermined breaking point of the partial stamping is provided. During feeding, the lid is first removed and the can is then placed with its bottom surface facing upward, thus allowing the animal feed to be substantially entirely removed from the container under the influence of gravity.
The opening formed after removal of the pull-out part should be flush with the remaining side surface so that the animal feed does not encounter any obstacle during emptying. It is therefore preferred that the edge portion is aligned with the side surface in the emptying direction on the side facing the opening. This means that the inner wall of the side surface, i.e. the wall of the side surface which in the filled state of the container is in contact with the animal feed, is aligned with the edge portion. In other words, the edge portion does not project into the opening area formed by the circumference of the side surface, if seen in the emptying direction, and therefore does not block a portion of the animal feed during emptying. Thus, the animal feed can be poured virtually entirely from the container without changing its shape. If the pull-out part is adhesively connected to the edge part or sealed thereon, for example, the corresponding contact surface of the edge part (to which the pull-out part is glued/sealed) should face away from the opening. If the pull-out part can be removed by partial punching, the partial punching should be substantially along and/or outside the circumference of the side surface forming the opening, but not inside the circumference, seen in the respective emptying direction.
The side surface circumference of an animal feed container, in particular a can of animal feed, which forms the opening, usually has edge portions, flanges, lips or folds, for example for the purpose of improving stability or establishing a connection with a lid. In the present invention, it is accordingly advantageous that this type of device does not project in the direction of the receiving space as is usual with conventional cans. Thus, in an advantageous embodiment, its side surface has a surface projecting from its circumference facing the bottom surface and facing away from the opening. Furthermore, the surface may stabilize the side surface and the container as a whole on the one hand and may close the container with a lid on the other hand.
In a preferred embodiment, the bottom surface and/or the side surfaces comprise a metal, such as aluminum, iron, steel or mixtures thereof, in particular a metal plate, such as the above-mentioned base materials, and/or a plastic composite.
With regard to the canned animal feed of the invention, by containing the animal feed in the containing space of a container of the type described herein, the animal feed of the container can be emptied/poured out in its entirety in a practically residue-free manner and/or without the use of auxiliary devices or the soiling of the fingers.
Advantageously, the animal feed is substantially separated from the side surfaces and the bottom surface by a separating agent, which is applied in the form of an aerosol to the side of the side surfaces and the bottom surface facing the receiving space, wherein the separating agent preferably comprises a mixture of 0.1-10 mass% of xanthan gum and 90-99.9 mass% of oil, in particular a mixture of 0.5-3 mass% of xanthan gum and 97-99.5 mass% of oil, especially a mixture of substantially 1 mass% of xanthan gum and 99 mass% of oil. The separating agent in particular reduces the adhesion of the animal feed to the container, so that the animal feed is more easily separated from the container. In particular, the effect of the inner coating of the container can thereby also be increased. The separating agent is preferably applied in the form of a finely atomized aerosol (before filling the container) so as to be able to prevent its deposition on the animal feed.
Preferably, the animal feed consists of two components which are substantially spatially separated (not mixed), wherein the difference between the pH values of the two components is preferably less than 1, in particular less than 0.5, and/or the difference between the salt contents of the two components is preferably less than 5, in particular less than 2.5, and the salt content of the component with the lower salt content and/or the difference between the water activity values of the two components is preferably less than 0.2, in particular less than 0.1. Water Activity (a)W) The value is defined as the partial vapor pressure (p) in the food product at a certain temperature and the saturated vapor pressure (p) of pure water0) In this case at a temperature of 20 ℃: a isW=p/p0. Animal feed with special visual appeal can be achieved, for example, by using two components, one of which is preferably arranged in such a way that the acceptance of the animal to be fed is increased: after pouring the animal feed out of the container, it is substantially covered with the second component. The compositional similarity of the components makes it possible to prevent mixing of the two components or material migration between the two components, especially during long-term storage. Furthermore, the identity of the two components should advantageously be similar so that animals fed with the animal feed are not confused.
The two components are preferably a paste and a sauce. The two components are in particular arranged in a region of the receiving space which is oriented parallel to the bottom surface/cover surface. Preferably, the batter is provided in the area closer to the lid and the sauce is provided in the area closer to the base. In this way, the batter leaves the container first during emptying and is then immediately covered by the sauce flowing out of the container. With regard to the total volume of the animal feed, i.e. the total volume of the two components, preferably one component, in particular the mash, amounts to at least 20 volume percent and/or the other component, in particular the sauce, amounts to at least 20 volume percent.
In the method of manufacturing a container of the present invention, the side surface and the bottom surface can be manufactured, for example, by a conventional method, wherein it is preferable that an inner coating is subsequently applied to the side of the side surface and the bottom surface facing the accommodation space, and then the bottom surface is operatively connected to an opening member for opening the hole in the bottom surface.
In an advantageous embodiment of the method, the process of operatively connecting the bottom surface to an opening element for opening a hole in the bottom surface comprises the steps of:
preferably, a protective and/or adhesive coating is applied around the hole on the side of the bottom surface facing the receiving space,
-punching a hole in the bottom surface,
-applying the material composition of the opening element from the side of the bottom surface facing away from the receiving space, and
-applying the material composition of the opening element from the side of the bottom surface facing the receiving space. The order of the last two steps can also be interchanged. This variant of the method represents a particularly simple option for manufacturing an opening element which is operatively connected to the bottom surface and which serves to open a hole in the bottom surface. Furthermore, the application of the material composition of the opening element from both sides results in an improved tightness.
With regard to the method of filling a container of the type described herein with animal feed, particularly sufficient separation of the animal feed or two components of the animal feed from the container can be achieved by providing a separating agent.
The invention is described in more detail below with reference to the appended drawings showing embodiments, which should not be construed in a limiting sense with regard to the scope of protection. In the various drawings:
FIG. 1 shows an embodiment of a container of the invention in cross-section perpendicular to the surface in the upright position of the container;
FIG. 2 shows a detail of the same embodiment as FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 shows a bottom surface of the same embodiment as FIG. 1 in bottom view;
fig. 4 shows the same embodiment as fig. 1 in oblique top view, without the opening device;
fig. 5 shows the same embodiment as fig. 1 in a slanted bottom view, without the opening means;
FIG. 6 shows an embodiment of the container of the present invention with a raised lid in an oblique top view; and
fig. 7 shows the same embodiment with a raised cover as in fig. 6 in a slanted bottom view.
Fig. 1 shows an advantageous embodiment of the container 1 of the invention in cross section, which is perpendicular to the surface 2 in the upright position of the container 1. The container 1 has a bottom surface 3 and a side surface 4 protruding from the circumference of the bottom surface 3. The bottom surface 3 and the side surfaces 4 form a receiving space 5, in which receiving space 5 the animal feed can be received to form a canned animal feed. Furthermore, the circumference of the side surface 4 facing away from the bottom surface 3 forms an opening 6, through which opening 6 animal feed can be emptied from the container 1. In this embodiment, the opening 6 is closed by a cover 7. The lid 7 has a rim portion 12 and a pull-out portion 14. The bottom surface 3 and the side surfaces 4 of the container 1 substantially form the top and side surfaces of a truncated cone, wherein the lid 7 substantially corresponds to the bottom surface of the truncated cone. The bottom surface 3 has a hole 10 in the recess 8 in the direction of the receiving space 5, the hole 10 being closed by a removable opening element 9 operatively connected to the bottom surface 3. In this case, the opening element 9 adheres not only on the side of the bottom surface 3 facing the receiving space 5, but also on the side of the bottom surface facing away from the receiving space 5. The hole 10 can be opened by removing the opening element 9 so that air can flow through the hole 10 and into the container 1, in particular between the bottom surface 3 and the animal feed, the container 1 being fillable with air.
The emptying direction 11 is indicated by an arrow, which is drawn in the form of a partly broken line. The side surface 4 has a cross section that increases in the emptying direction.
Fig. 2 shows a detail of the circumference of the side surface 4 facing away from the bottom surface 3 of the same embodiment as fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows the bottom surface 3 of the same embodiment as fig. 1 in a view in the emptying direction 11. An opening element 9 is operatively connected to the bottom surface 3 and closes the hole 10, in which case the opening element 9 is located in the recess 8. The opening element 9 is thus realized in the form of a removable seal closing the hole 10. Furthermore, the opening element 9 has a flap 13, wherein the opening element 9 can be removed both together with the flap 13 and simply by pressing on/moving under the opening element 9.
An alternative embodiment of the container 1 again has a bottom surface 3 and a side surface 4 protruding from the circumference of the bottom surface 3. The bottom surface 3 and the side surfaces 4 form a receiving space 5, in which receiving space 5 animal feed can be received. Furthermore, the circumference of the side surface 4 facing away from the bottom surface 3 forms an opening 6, through which opening 6 animal feed can be emptied from the container 1. An opening element 9 for opening a hole 10 in the bottom surface 3 is operatively connected to the bottom surface 3. In this embodiment, the container 1 consists of two parts, wherein the first part is formed by the bottom surface 3 and the side surfaces 4. The second portion has substantially the shape of the circumference of the side surface 4 facing away from the bottom surface 3. If the side surface 4 has substantially the shape of a side surface of a truncated cone, the second portion has substantially the shape of a ring having a diameter substantially the same as the diameter of the circumference of the side surface 4 facing away from the bottom surface 3. For example, the second part is connected to the first part by flanging, folding, gluing or welding. The second part may have a flange which acts as a contact surface 12 for the pulled-out lid 7. Alternatively, the second portion may also be realized in the form of a continuous surface, wherein the circumference of the surface substantially corresponds to the circumference of the side surface 4 facing away from the bottom surface 3. In this case, the surface of the second part may comprise a partly milled groove along the ring, wherein part of the surface (e.g. with a sealing ring) can be pulled out of the milled groove, thus, in this embodiment, part of the surface forms the pulled-out cover 7.
Fig. 4 shows an embodiment of the same container 1 as in fig. 1 in oblique top view, with the opening device 9 removed alone or not shown. Fig. 5 shows the same embodiment as fig. 1, again in oblique bottom view, without the opening device.
