Detailed description of the preferred embodiments
The design of the present invention is directed to eliminating the wear on components due to their continual removal and the labor savings associated with their removal and reinstallation.
In its preferred embodiment, the tensioner is made of aluminum, but can also be made of wood and steel. The tensioning device, particularly the tensioning rod, spring and thumbscrew, has the same design as found in non-provisional patent 15/428,144 (publication No. US 2018/0222665, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference as if fully set forth). The new technology uses a short bar on the tension side and a yoke on the opposite side. This combination enables paper to be loaded without the need to remove the tension rods, thumbscrews, and springs.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the entire tensioning assembly and dispensing structure 100 without the expandable fluted paper roll. The tension assembly is mounted to the side mount 101. The tensioning assembly includes a tensioning member 103, a thumbscrew 104, and a spring 105. The tension members 103 can be in the form of rods or bars. The tensioning assembly applies tension (i.e., rotational resistance) to the paper core 204 (shown in fig. 5) by pressing the core end region 203 (shown in fig. 3 and 4) against the core support 102 in the form of a support bar mounted to (i.e., mounted to) the fixture 101. The side fixings 106 provide support for the end regions of the core.
The tensioning assemblies 103, 104 and 105 of figure 1 have the same basic design as disclosed in U.S. non-provisional patent application 15/428,144 (publication No. 2018-0222665). As shown in fig. 2, the bottom of the yoke region 107 supports a core end region 201 on the side opposite to the side fixing member 101. Thus, the core end region 201 rests in the yoke region 107 of the side fixing 106. After loading the paper, the core end area 201 can be held in place by the core positioning member 108, the core positioning member 108 blocking the paper roll 201 of fig. 2, thereby preventing the end core area 201 from sliding on the core support member 102.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the tensioning system loaded with a paper roll 200. As shown in fig. 2 and 3, the end region 201 of the paper core 204 is leaned in the yoke region 107, and the positioning member 208 is a bent metal member mounted to the side fixing member 106.
Figure 3 is a front view of an alternative angled design in which the paper roll 200 is at a slight angle compared to a horizontal table top represented by line 300. The orientation relationship is shown by means of a horizontal line 301 parallel to horizontal line 300. The space 303 between paper roll 200 and horizontally oriented wire 301 is smaller than space 302. This relationship is achieved by having the bottom of the yoke region 107 of fig. 1 be higher than the bottom of the core end 203 on the support rods 102 of fig. 1. Line 300 depicts a horizontal table top surface and support bar 102 of mount 101 positions paper core end 203 at a lower position than the position of core end 201 on yoke 107. Arrow 304 depicts yoke 106 being higher than mount 101, thereby angling paper roll 200 relative to the horizontal table top surface.
As shown in fig. 1, 4 and 6, the yoke 102 is in the form of a support bar located inside the core end 203 and is therefore not shown in fig. 3. The cylindrical paper core member 204 is suspended (i.e., supported) at outer end regions 201 and 203 of the cylindrical paper core member 204 from the yoke region 107 and the support bar 102 of the frame 106, respectively.
As shown in fig. 1, thumbscrew 108 can be screwed upward in the direction of core end region 201 to stop lateral movement of core end region 203 away from support bar 102 and mount 101.
As shown in fig. 3, in addition to or instead of using thumbscrews to lock the paper in place, the yoke region 107 should also be positioned upward relative to the core support 102 to provide a slightly angled paper roll and to use gravity to hold the paper against the tensioned side of the device. The angle of the paper roll 200 forces the paper roll towards the tensioning member 103 and the fixture 101. Once the tensioner is firmly in place and the paper is installed, the tensioner will function as described in non-provisional application 15/428,144. Once the paper roll is installed, thumbscrew 310 on the outside of the yoke can be turned up to prevent the paper from sliding outward and away from the tension side of the device.
Figure 4 illustrates a method of mounting a paper roll 200 on the tensioning and dispensing system 100. The paper roll is positioned at an angle relative to the dispensing and spreading device for loading the paper roll on the dispensing and spreading device. As shown in fig. 1, 3 and 6, the core support member 102 is inserted into a hollow cylindrical core member 204, and the core end 203 and core end region 201 are lowered to their positions in the yoke region 107 of the fixture 101 by rotating the roll 200 on the core support 102 as indicated by curved arrow 410.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a paper roll 200 showing a hollow core member 204. The length of the inner core 204 is longer than the width of the paper roll 200 and therefore has two outer ends 201 and 203 extending beyond the ends of the paper roll 200. The outer end 203 provides a friction surface and is combined with a tensioning member 103 for resisting the pulling of the fluted paper from the paper roll 200. The core member 204 can be any rigid material such as metal or plastic, but paper is highly preferred.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the dispensing and expansion device of fig. 3. As shown in fig. 3, the support bar 102 of the fixing member 101 positions the paper core end 203 lower than the core end 201 on the yoke 107. The yoke of fixture 106 supports core end 201 at a higher position than core support 102 supporting core member 204, thus forming the angle of paper roll 200 relative to the horizontal table top surface.
Fig. 7 is a partial end view of the elongate inner core member 201 installed in the core support member 400. The radius of the first core support member 400 is larger than the radius of the first inner core member 203, and the first core support member 400 has an arc providing an open area sufficient for a friction member such as shown in fig. 7 to contact the surface of the first inner core member end area 203. The radius of the first core support member is sufficiently larger than the radius of the first core member to enable insertion of the first core member into the first core support member.
Figure 8 is a side view of a dispensing and expanding device with a paper roll having an end of an elongated core member mounted in a core support member. The arc of the core support member 400 is less than about 300 °, and preferably no more than 240 °, to enable the tension rod 103 to contact the outer surface of the first inner core member 203.
Preferably, the second core support member 900 has a first surface in contact with a surface of the second inner core member end region 201, and the second core support member 900 has an arc-shaped configuration as shown in fig. 9. Advantageously, the arcuate formation has a curvature which matches the curvature of the outer surface of the end region of the second core member. The radius of the outer surface of the second core support member 900 is larger than that of the second core member and preferably has an arc of less than 180 °. Most preferably, the arcuate configuration has an arc of between 180 ° and 110 °. In embodiments where the second core support member 900 has an arcuate configuration of no more than about 180 °, the second core member 201 can be lifted from the second core support member 400 and the expandable fluted paper roll rotated about the first core support member 900 and separated from the expansion and dispensing apparatus. Similarly, the paper roll can be positioned in the spreader-dispenser such that the first core member 203 is inserted into the support member. The expandable slotted sheet roll 200 rotates around the first core support 400 and the second core member 203 descends onto the core support member 900. The roll 200 is then in a position to be extracted from the extension and dispensing apparatus.
In this application, the use of various numerical values is stated as approximations, which may be preceded by the word "about. Similarly, unless expressly stated otherwise, numerical values in the various ranges specified in this application are stated as approximations, and the minimum and maximum values in the stated ranges are preceded by the word "about", "approximately", or "approximately". In this manner, variations above and below the stated ranges can be used to achieve substantially the same results as values within the ranges. As used herein, the terms "about," "approximately," and "approximately," when referring to a numerical value, shall have their plain and ordinary meaning to those of skill in the art to which the disclosed subject matter pertains, or to which the stated range or element pertains. The amount of expansion from a strict numerical boundary depends on many factors. For example, some factors that may be considered include the criticality of the elements and/or the impact that a given amount of variation will have on the performance of the claimed subject matter, as well as other considerations known to those skilled in the art. As used herein, the use of different amounts of an active number for different values is not meant to limit how the use of the words "about", "approximately" and "approximately" would extend to the particular value or range. Thus, in general, "about", "approximately" and "approximately" broaden the numerical values. Also, the disclosure of a range is intended as a continuous range including every value between the minimum and maximum values and extensions of the ranges provided by use of the terms "about", "approximately" and "approximately". Thus, unless otherwise indicated herein, recitation of ranges of values herein are merely intended to serve as a shorthand method of referring individually to each separate value falling within the range, and each separate value is incorporated into the specification as if it were individually recited herein. To the extent that a given variation in certain factors (such as criticality of the slot pattern, difference in paper width before and after expansion, paper weight and type, and other considerations related to the performance of the claimed subject matter known to those skilled in the art to which the disclosed subject matter pertains, or to which such ranges or elements pertain) is determined to some extent, the terms "about", "approximately" and "approximately" should be understood to mean plus or minus 15% of the numerical value, unless expressly stated in the claims.
It should be understood that any ranges, ratios, and ranges of ratios that may be formed or derived from any of the data disclosed herein represent further embodiments of the disclosure and are included as part of the disclosure as if they were explicitly set forth. This includes ranges that can be formed that include or do not include a limited upper and/or lower boundary. Thus, those skilled in the art to which a particular range, ratio, or range of ratios is most closely related will appreciate that these values can be derived explicitly from the data presented herein.
