Description

Ornament with elastic strap for returning soft latch in place
Technical Field
The present disclosure relates to a seat trim that receives a soft latch portion of a seat belt when a seat back is lowered and returns the soft latch to a ready position when the seat back is raised.
Background
A vehicle seat is provided with a seat belt comprising an extendable belt comprising a first latch portion and a soft latch portion, the soft latch portion being non-extendable and comprising a second latch portion adapted to receive the first latch portion. Some vehicle seats are designed with a seat back that can be folded down to a lowered position to allow access to an area behind the seat, such as a storage compartment, or to a row of seats behind the vehicle seat (with the backrest folded down).
The problem with the soft latch portion when providing a foldable seat back on the seat is that when the seat back is folded down to a lowered position, the seat back also pushes the soft latch to a position near the seat base that is difficult to access. There is a need for a cost effective means for returning the soft latch to the ready position-above the top surface of the seat base-when the seat back is raised to the raised position.
The present disclosure is directed to solving the above problems and other problems as summarized below.
SUMMARY
In accordance with one aspect of the present disclosure, a vehicle seat is disclosed that includes a seat base including a seat cover (seat covering) surrounding a cushion, the seat cover including a facing side (facing side) on an outboard surface of the seat base, and a seat back pivotally attached to a rear portion of the seat base to be movable between a raised position and a lowered position. The seat is provided with a seat belt comprising an extendable belt having a first latching portion and a soft buckle portion having a second latching portion. A pocket flap is attached to the facing side and defines an opening with the facing side. The return strip is attached at a first end to the pocket flap and at a second end to the facing side. When the seat back is moved to the lowered position, the return strap spans the opening and is engaged by the soft latch portion. The return strap lifts the soft latch portion when the seat back is moved to the raised position.
According to other aspects of the present disclosure relating to vehicle seats, the pocket flap may be sewn to the facing side with the opening oriented to partially receive the soft latch portion when the seat back is moved to the lowered position. The return strip may include a loop disposed at an intermediate location between the first end and the second end. The soft latch portion is inserted through the loop to maintain the soft latch portion in alignment with the pocket flap. The return strip may be of an elastic material. The return strap acts to limit the extent to which the soft latch portion moves downwardly relative to the facing side.
According to another aspect of the present disclosure, a seat belt for a vehicle having a seat is disclosed, the seat including a seat base having a facing side including a pocket sewn to an outside surface of the seat base, and a seat back pivotally attached to a rear portion of the seat base to be movable between a raised position and a lowered position. The seat belt includes an extendable belt connected to a first latch portion and a soft buckle portion having a second latch portion. An elastic strap is attached to the facing side of the seat base and the inner surface of the pocket. When the seat back is moved to the lowered position, the soft latch portion presses against the elastic strap, and the elastic strap exerts a biasing force on the soft latch portion to lift the soft latch portion to a predetermined position to facilitate receipt of the first latch portion.
According to other aspects of the present disclosure relating to seat belts, the pocket may be sewn to the facing side and may be oriented to partially receive the soft latch portion when the seat back is moved to the lowered position. The elastic strap may include a loop disposed at an intermediate location between the first end of the elastic strap and the second end of the elastic strap. The soft latch portion can be inserted through the loop to maintain the alignment of the soft latch portion with the pocket. The extendable seat belt may include a lap belt and a shoulder belt. The elastic strip limits the extent to which the soft latch portion moves downward relative to the veneer side.
In accordance with yet another aspect of the present disclosure, a positioning device for a seat belt buckle receiver is disclosed. The positioning device includes a flap attached to the trim side of the seat base, the flap having a pocket defining an opening into which the seat belt buckle receiver is inserted when the seat back is folded down over the seat base. The strap is attached at a first end to the flap and at a second end to the veneer side. A loop formed in the strap between the first end and the second end is adapted to receive and retain the seat belt buckle receiver on the strap. The strap exerts a biasing force on the seat belt buckle receiver to lift the seat belt buckle receiver to a position that facilitates insertion of the latch portion into the seat belt buckle receiver.
According to other aspects of the disclosure relating to positioning devices, the pocket may be sewn to the facing side and the opening may be oriented to partially receive the seat belt buckle receiver when the seat back is moved to the lowered position. The strap may include a loop disposed at an intermediate location between the first end and the second end. The seat belt buckle receiver may be inserted through the loop to maintain the seat belt buckle receiver in alignment with the pocket. The latch portion may be connected to an extendable belt including a lap belt and a shoulder belt. Straps may be used to limit the extent to which the seat belt buckle receiver moves downwardly relative to the trim side. The strap is elastic and is used to lift the seat belt buckle receiver above the pocket.
The above aspects and other aspects of the present disclosure will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings.
