Abstract

The present invention relates to the field of seating.

Background

It is known to place chairs or benches in waiting areas where space permits, but space is not always permitted.

Disclosure of Invention

In one aspect, the present invention provides a facility for mounting on a wall for use by a person against the wall. The facility includes: the receiving device is arranged on a wall for use; a support, the bearing part of which is bent along the buttocks of the person; and a mechanism adapted to suspend the load bearing portion of the support from the receiving means.

On the other hand, the mechanism may allow the height of the support to be adjusted in use.

In another aspect, the mechanism may comprise: a projection fixedly connected in use with the receiving means; and a member having a plurality of sockets, the member extending substantially vertically in use such that the sockets are vertically spaced from one another, and each socket being adapted to grip the projection.

Disclosure of Invention

The exemplary installation 20 shown in fig. 1-3 will be understood to include a receiving device 22, a support 24, and a mechanism 26.

The exemplary receiver 22 is made of metal and includes a back plate 28 and a pair of spaced apart and parallel flanges 30 extending from the back plate 28. Mounting holes 32A, 32B are located at opposite ends of back plate 28, and the opposite ends of each flange are provided with holes 34A, 34B.

The mount 24 has a contoured plastic body 36 with a receptacle 38 therein and a resilient foam cover 40 adapted for snap-fit engagement with the body 36.

The mechanism 26 includes a pair of projections 42, 44 and a metal toothed plate 46 and a metal toothed plate 48.

The pair of projections 42, 44 are defined by bolts 42A, 44A, respectively, which extend between a pair of mounting holes of the flange 30 and are received and fixed by nuts 42B, 44B, respectively.

The toothed press 46 is overmolded within the body 36 and, together with the body 36, defines a channel 50 in which the bolt 42A is located.

The toothed plate 48 is also overmolded within the body 36 and defines a plurality of slotted receptacles 52.

When in use:

the back plate 28 is placed against the wall 54 and the fasteners 56 are inserted through the receptacles 38 and the upper mounting holes 32A into the wall 54 such that the projections 42, 44 extend horizontally and are spaced apart from each other in both the vertical and horizontal directions, as shown in FIG. 4;

the cover 40 snaps into place on the body 36 and the seat 24 pivots to the release position, as shown in FIG. 5;

lifting the stand 24 to the fully raised position and passing another fastener 56 through the lower mounting hole 32B into the wall, as shown in fig. 6, thereby securing the receiver device securely to the wall; and

the support is pivoted to the locked position, in which the projection 44 is caught in one of the sockets 52, thereby preventing further vertical movement of the support, as shown in fig. 7.

Figure 8 shows a person using the apparatus and it can be seen that the surface of the lid 40 generally follows the curvature of the buttocks of the person 58 during use.

Although figure 8 only shows a person and a single height stand, it will be appreciated that the height of the stand can be adjusted by a plurality of sockets 52, thereby allowing persons of different heights to use the facility.

Furthermore, while a single embodiment has been described, it will be apparent that variations are possible.

For example, although the cover is shown as being snap-in, other securing mechanisms, such as hook and loop fasteners, may be used.

Additionally, although mechanical means are provided for adjustment, other adjusters, such as linear actuators or rack and pinion mechanisms, may be used.

Accordingly, the invention is to be construed as limited only by the appended claims, which are specifically set forth.

Claims (3)

1. A facility for mounting on a wall for use when a person is against the wall, the facility comprising:

the receiving device is arranged on a wall for use;

a support, the load bearing portion of which is generally curved along the person's buttocks; and

a mechanism adapted to suspend the load bearing portion of the support from the receiving device.

2. The installation of claim 1, wherein the mechanism is operable to permit adjustment of the height of the support in use.

3. The facility of claim 1, wherein the mechanism comprises:

a projection fixedly connected in use with the receiving means; and

a member having a plurality of sockets, the member extending substantially vertically in use such that the sockets are vertically spaced from one another, and each socket being adapted to grip a said projection.
