Abstract

背景技术
显示设备包括显示面板(或像素单元)和驱动器。显示面板通常包括扫描线、数据线和像素。驱动器通常包括用于将扫描信号提供到扫描线的扫描驱动器和用于将数据信号提供到数据线的数据驱动器。每个像素响应于通过对应扫描线提供的扫描信号而发射具有与通过对应数据线提供的数据信号相对应的亮度的光。
显示设备可以以低频显示图像以降低功耗。例如,当显示设备显示静态图像或环境图像时(例如,在息屏显示、环境显示等的情况下),显示设备可以以比用于显示其他类别的图像(例如,视频、用户的使用图片)的刷新率低的刷新率来显示图像。可替代地,仅显示面板的一部分可以被驱动以降低功耗。
在该背景技术部分中公开的以上信息仅是为了加强对背景的理解,并且因此,在该背景技术部分中讨论的信息不一定构成现有技术。
发明内容
本发明的一些示例实施例的方面包括一种显示设备,该显示设备比较图像数据以确定像素单元的第一区域与第二区域之间的边界,并且以比第一区域低的频率(例如,刷新率)驱动第二区域。
本发明的一些示例实施例的方面包括用于显示设备的驱动方法。
然而,本发明的特征不限于以上描述的特征,而是可以被各种扩展或修改,而不脱离根据本发明的实施例的思想和范围。
根据本发明的一些示例实施例的显示设备包括:像素单元,包括连接到多条扫描线和多条数据线的多个像素;多频驱动器,比较邻近帧之间的图像数据,以确定像素单元的以第一刷新率驱动的第一区域以及像素单元的以低于第一刷新率的第二刷新率驱动的第二区域;扫描驱动器,用于在第一方向上将扫描信号顺序地供给到扫描线,以第一刷新率将扫描信号供给到第一区域,并且以第二刷新率将扫描信号供给到第二区域;以及数据驱动器,用于将与图像数据相对应的数据信号供给到数据线。

根据本发明的一些示例实施例的显示设备的驱动方法包括:将第一图像块的前一图像帧的图像数据与第一图像块的当前图像帧的图像数据进行比较,以确定第一图像块是否为静态图像;当第一图像块不是静态图像时,以第一刷新率驱动第一图像块,并且减小第一图像块在第一方向上的尺寸;确定包括在所减小的第一图像块中的像素行中的一个像素行为静态图像区域与视频区域之间的边界像素行,并且确定包括边界像素行的静态图像区域;并且当第一图像块为静态图像时,以低于第一刷新率的第二刷新率驱动第一图像块。
根据一些示例实施例,确定静态图像区域之后可以进一步包括:以第二刷新率驱动静态图像区域,并且以第一刷新率驱动视频区域。静态图像区域可以包括从边界像素行到最后像素行的区域。
根据一些示例实施例,在用于确定边界像素行的搜索时段期间,以第二刷新率驱动的区域的尺寸可以逐渐增大。
根据本发明的一些示例实施例的显示设备及其驱动方法可以在没有帧存储器等的情况下实时比较图像数据,并且可以在短时间内逐渐增大应用第二刷新率的区域的同时,检测第一区域与第二区域之间的最优(或期望)的边界像素行。因此,可以在不增加用于检测边界像素行的成本的情况下,最小化或降低用于以多个频率(或多个刷新率)驱动的功耗。
然而,根据本发明的示例实施例的特征不限于以上描述的特征,而是可以在不脱离本发明的思想和范围的范围内被各种扩展。

在下文中,参考附图,将更详细地描述本发明的一些示例实施例的方面。相同的附图标记用于附图上相同的组成元件,并且相同组成元件的重复描述被省略。
图1是示出根据本发明的一些示例实施例的显示设备的框图。
参考图1,显示设备1000可以包括像素单元100、多频驱动器200、时序控制器300、扫描驱动器400、发射驱动器500和数据驱动器600。根据一些示例实施例,显示设备1000可以进一步包括处理器10。
显示设备1000可以通过从处理器10供给的命令和数据来显示图像。处理器10可以被实现为应用处理器(AP)和图形处理器等。
显示设备1000可以是平板显示设备、柔性显示设备、弯折显示设备、可折叠显示设备或可弯曲显示设备。另外,显示设备1000可以应用于透明显示设备、头戴式显示设备和可穿戴显示设备等。另外,显示设备1000可以应用于诸如智能电话、平板电脑、智能平板、TV和监视器等的各种电子设备。
同时,显示设备1000可以被实现为有机发光二极管显示器和液晶显示器等。然而,这仅仅是示例,并且显示设备1000的配置不限于此。例如,显示设备1000可以包括任何合适的显示设备。
像素单元100可以包括多条扫描线SL1至SLn、多条发射控制线EL1至ELn以及多条数据线DL1至DLm,并且可以包括连接到扫描线SL1至SLn、发射控制线EL1至ELn以及数据线DL1至DLm的多个像素PX(这里,m和n为大于1的整数)。像素PX中的每个像素PX可以包括驱动晶体管和多个开关晶体管。
像素单元100通过使用像素PX的发射来显示图像。为了显示视频,需要相对高的驱动频率(或刷新率)以表示更平滑和连续的运动。刷新率可以被称为屏幕刷新率,并且表示一秒内播放显示屏的频率。即,刷新率是数据驱动器600和/或扫描驱动器400的信号输出的驱动频率。例如,用于驱动视频的刷新率可以是大约60Hz或更高(例如,120Hz)的频率。
高刷新率对于显示静态图像可能不是期望的或必需的。因此,相关领域的系统可以通过将整个像素单元100的刷新率设置为40Hz或更低的低频率来显示图像,以便降低用于显示静态图像的功耗。
同时,像素单元100可以显示在其中静态图像和视频被混合的屏幕。相关领域的频率控制系统可以根据图像模式(或电力模式)改变整个屏幕的刷新率。因此,在用于驱动像素单元100的操作条件下,根据像素单元100的区域,刷新率可以是分开的。可以关于像素行(例如,设定或预定像素行)来划分刷新率。例如,可以以第一帧速率来驱动由低频驱动信号LFD选择的像素行的上部区域,并且可以以第二帧速率来驱动所选择的像素行的下部区域。
当显示静态图像和视频在其中被混合的屏幕时,根据本发明的一些示例实施例的显示设备1000可以将不同的刷新率应用于与静态图像相对应的部分和视频在其中被显示的部分。因此,可以实现高质量的视频,并且可以并发地(例如,同时地)降低功耗。
多频驱动器200可以确定(例如,自动确定)包括视频的第一区域和静态图像在其中被显示的第二区域,并且可以控制显示设备1000将不同的刷新率应用于第一区域和第二区域。多频驱动器200可以比较邻近帧之间的图像数据IDATA,以确定第一区域和第二区域。可以从处理器10提供图像数据IDATA。
另外,多频驱动器200可以将用于以第一刷新率驱动第一区域以及以第二刷新率驱动第二区域的命令(例如,低频驱动信号LFD)提供到时序控制器300。
低频驱动信号LFD可以包括指示包括在像素单元100中的像素行当中的应用第二刷新率的第一像素行的信息。
根据一些示例实施例,多频驱动器200可以基于比较在多个帧期间的图像数据IDATA的结果,来确定作为第二区域的顶部像素行的边界像素行。例如,多频驱动器200可以在用于确定边界像素行的搜索时段期间逐渐增大以第二刷新率驱动的区域的尺寸。因此,在搜索时段期间由低频驱动信号LFD指示的像素行可以变化。
多频驱动器200可以通过精确地检测应用第一刷新率的第一区域和应用第二刷新率的第二区域,来以像素单元100的最优比或期望比来执行分频驱动。
时序控制器300可以响应于从处理器10等供给的同步信号而产生第一控制信号SCS、第二控制信号ECS和第三控制信号DCS。第一控制信号SCS可以被供给到扫描驱动器400,第二控制信号ECS可以被供给到发射驱动器500,并且第三控制信号DCS可以被供给到数据驱动器600。
另外,时序控制器300可以重新排列从外部部件(例如,处理器10)供给的图像数据IDATA,并且可以将重新排列后的图像数据IDATA供给到数据驱动器600。根据一些示例实施例,时序控制器300可以将图像数据IDATA划分成与像素单元100的第一区域相对应的第一区域数据DATA1和与像素单元100的第二区域相对应的第二区域数据DATA2,并且可以以不同的频率将第一区域数据DATA1和第二区域数据DATA2供给到数据驱动器600。例如,时序控制器300可以以与第一刷新率相对应的频率将第一区域数据DATA1供给到数据驱动器600,并且可以以与第二刷新率相对应的频率将第二区域数据DATA2供给到数据驱动器600。因此,可以改善显示设备1000的功耗。
第一控制信号SCS可以包括扫描起始脉冲和时钟信号。扫描起始脉冲可以控制扫描信号的第一时序。时钟信号可以用于移位扫描起始脉冲。
第二控制信号ECS可以包括发射控制起始脉冲和时钟信号。发射控制起始脉冲可以控制发射控制信号的第一时序。时钟信号可以用于移位发射控制起始脉冲。
第三控制信号DCS可以包括源起始脉冲和时钟信号。源起始脉冲控制数据的采样起始时间点。时钟信号用于控制采样操作。
根据一些示例实施例,时序控制器300可以将掩蔽信号MS供给到扫描驱动器400以用于多频驱动。掩蔽信号MS可以响应于低频驱动信号LFD而产生。例如,掩蔽信号MS是用于控制由低频驱动信号LFD指示的像素行(例如,应用第二刷新率的区域的第一像素行)的扫描线的信号。例如,掩蔽信号MS可以以第二刷新率被供给到扫描驱动器400。因此,扫描驱动器400可以以第二刷新率从由掩蔽信号MS指示的像素行的扫描线到最后扫描线输出扫描信号。
扫描驱动器400可以从时序控制器300接收第一控制信号SCS和掩蔽信号MS,并且可以基于第一控制信号SCS和掩蔽信号MS将扫描信号供给到扫描线SL1至SLn。例如,扫描驱动器400可以将扫描信号顺序地供给到扫描线SL1至SLn。当扫描信号被顺序地供给时,可以以水平线为单位(或以像素行为单位)选择像素PX。
根据一些示例实施例,扫描驱动器400可以以第一刷新率的频率将扫描信号供给到第一区域,并且可以响应于掩蔽信号MS以第二刷新率的频率将扫描信号供给到第二区域。例如,扫描驱动器400可以以第二刷新率将扫描信号从边界像素行供给到最后像素行。
根据一些示例实施例,在用于确定边界像素行的搜索时段期间,扫描驱动器400可以响应于低频驱动信号LFD而逐渐增大以第二刷新率驱动的扫描线的数量。
扫描信号可以被设置为栅导通电压(例如,低电压)。包括在像素PX中并且接收扫描信号的晶体管可以在扫描信号被供给时被设置成导通状态。
发射驱动器500可以从时序控制器300接收第二控制信号ECS,并且可以基于第二控制信号ECS将发射控制信号供给到发射控制线EL1至ELn。例如,发射驱动器500可以通过发射控制线EL1至ELn顺序地供给发射控制信号。
发射控制信号可以被设置为栅导通电压(例如,低电压)。包括在像素PX中并且接收发射控制信号的晶体管可以在发射控制信号被供给时被导通,并且可以在其他情况下被截止。
发射控制信号用于控制像素PX的发光时间。为此,发射控制信号可以被设置成具有大于扫描信号的宽度。
根据一些示例实施例,发射驱动器500可以以第一刷新率将发射控制信号供给到第一区域,并且可以以第二刷新率将发射控制信号供给到第二区域。然而,这是示例,并且发射驱动器500可以以相同的频率将发射控制信号供给到整个像素单元100。
扫描驱动器400和发射驱动器500可以分别通过薄膜工艺被安装在基板上。另外,扫描驱动器400可以位于两侧而像素单元100置于扫描驱动器400之间。发射驱动器500也可以位于两侧而像素单元100置于发射驱动器500之间。
另外,扫描驱动器400和发射驱动器500在图1中分别被示出为提供扫描信号和发射控制信号,但是根据本发明的实施例不限于此。例如,扫描信号和发射控制信号可以由一个驱动器供给。
数据驱动器600可以从时序控制器300接收第三控制信号DCS和数据信号(例如,第一区域数据DATA1和第二区域数据DATA2)。数据驱动器600可以响应于第三控制信号DCS将数据信号供给到数据线DL1至DLm。供给到数据线DL1至DLm的数据信号可以被供给到由扫描信号选择的像素PX。例如,数据驱动器600可以将数据信号供给到数据线DL1至DLm,以与扫描信号同步。
根据一些示例实施例,数据驱动器600可以以第一刷新率的频率将数据信号供给到第一区域,并且可以以第二刷新率的频率将数据信号供给到第二区域。因此,可以改善显示设备1000的功耗。
同时,多频驱动器200、时序控制器300和数据驱动器600在图1中被示出为分开的配置或部件,但是根据本发明的实施例不限于此。例如,多频驱动器200、时序控制器300和数据驱动器600中的至少两个可以包括在一个驱动芯片TED或集成电路中。可替代地,多频驱动器200可以包括在时序控制器300中。
另外,在图1中示出了n条扫描线SL1至SLn和n条发射控制线EL1至ELn,但是根据本发明的实施例不限于此。例如,对应于像素PX的电路结构,位于当前水平线(或当前像素行)上的像素PX可以进一步连接到位于前一水平线(或前一像素行)上的扫描线和/或位于下一水平线(或下一像素行)上的扫描线。为此,未示出的虚设扫描线和/或虚设发射控制线可以额外地形成在像素单元100中。
根据一些示例实施例,显示设备1000可以将用于驱动像素PX的(例如,供给高电压的)第一电源VDD、(例如,供给低电压或地电压的)第二电源VSS以及(例如,供给初始化电压的)初始化电源Vint供给到像素单元100。
图2A是示出包括在图1中所示的显示设备1000中的一个或多个像素PX的像素电路的示例的电路图,并且图2B是示出图2A中所示的像素电路的操作的示例的时序图。
参考图2A和图2B,像素PX中的一个或多个像素PX可以各自包括第一晶体管T1至第七晶体管T7、存储电容器Cst和发光元件LD。
第一晶体管T1至第七晶体管T7中的每个可以被实现为P型晶体管,但是不限于此。例如,第一晶体管T1至第七晶体管T7中的至少一些可以被实现为N型晶体管。另外,第一晶体管T1至第七晶体管T7中的每个有源层(或半导体层)可以包括基于多晶硅的半导体(例如,低温多晶硅半导体等)或氧化物半导体。
第一晶体管T1(或驱动晶体管)的第一电极可以连接到第二节点N2,或者可以通过第五晶体管T5连接到第一电力线。第一晶体管T1的第二电极可以连接到第一节点N1,或者可以通过第六晶体管T6连接到发光元件LD的阳极。第一晶体管T1的栅电极可以连接到第三节点N3。第一晶体管T1可以响应于第三节点N3的电压,控制从第一电力线(例如,传递第一电源VDD的电压的电力线)通过发光元件LD流到第二电力线(例如,传递第二电源VSS的电压的电力线)的电流的量。
第二晶体管T2可以连接在数据线DLj与第二节点N2之间。第二晶体管T2的栅电极可以连接到扫描线SLi。第二晶体管T2可以在扫描信号被供给到扫描线SLi时被导通,以电连接数据线DLj和第一晶体管T1的第一电极。

图2B示出了在一个帧部分期间供给到前一扫描线SLi-1的前一扫描信号SCAN[i-1]、供给到扫描线SLi的扫描信号SCAN[i]、供给到发射控制线ELi的发射控制信号EM[i]以及数据信号DATA。
前一扫描信号SCAN[i-1]可以在第一时间点t1与第二时间点t2之间被供给。前一扫描信号SCAN[i-1]在其中具有导通电压电平ON的部分的第一脉冲宽度PW1可以小于一个水平时间1H。
响应于前一扫描信号SCAN[i-1],第四晶体管T4可以被导通,并且第三节点N3或存储电容器Cst可以被初始化电源Vint的电压初始化。例如,第一时间点t1与第二时间点t2之间的部分可以是初始化部分。
扫描信号SCAN[i]可以在第二时间点t2与第三时间点t3之间被供给。

响应于导通电压电平ON的发射控制信号EM[i],第五晶体管T5和第六晶体管T6可以被导通,与第三节点N3的电压电平(即,与扫描信号SCAN[i]相对应的数据信号DATA[i])相对应的电流可以被供给到发光元件LD,并且发光元件LD可以发射具有与该电流相对应的亮度的光。一个帧部分的第三时间点t3之后的部分可以是发光部分。
根据一些示例实施例,供给到像素PX的扫描信号SCAN[i]、数据信号DATA[i]和发射控制信号EM[i]中的至少一个可以根据所选择的刷新率而变化。

多频驱动器200可以相对于边界像素行BPL区分第一区域DA1和第二区域DA2。第一区域DA1可以包括显示视频VI的区域,并且第二区域DA2可以包括显示静态图像SI的区域。
多频驱动器200可以在搜索时段(例如,设定或预定搜索时段)期间分析图像数据IDATA,以确定最优或期望位置的边界像素行BPL。根据一些示例实施例,多频驱动器200将与图像块IB相对应的前一帧的图像数据和与图像块IB相对应的当前帧的图像数据进行比较,以确定图像块IB是否为静态图像。将参考图5或以下来详细描述使用图像块IB确定第二区域DA2和边界像素行BPL的具体方法。
第一区域DA1可以被定义为在边界像素行BPL上的区域,并且第一区域DA1可以以第一刷新率RR1被驱动。例如,第一刷新率RR1可以被设置为240Hz、120Hz或60Hz等。像素单元100的除了第一区域DA1之外的其余区域可以是第二区域DA2,并且第二区域DA2可以以第二刷新率RR2被驱动。第二刷新率RR2可以是低于第一刷新率RR1的频率,并且可以被设置为30Hz、10Hz或1Hz等。

根据一些示例实施例,响应于扫描信号的驱动频率,数据驱动器600可以以第一刷新率RR1的频率供给与第一区域DA1相对应的数据信号,并且可以以第二刷新率RR2的频率供给与第二区域DA2相对应的数据信号。

参考图1、图3、图4A和图4B,扫描驱动器400可以以第一刷新率RR1将扫描信号顺序地供给到第一区域DA1的扫描线(例如,第一扫描线SL1至第i扫描线SLi),并且可以以第二刷新率RR2将扫描信号顺序地供给到第二区域DA2的扫描线(例如,第i+1扫描线SLi+1至第n扫描线SLn)。
图4A和图4B的时序图仅示出了供给到一个像素PX的多个扫描信号当中的根据多频驱动器200的命令改变其刷新率(或频率)的扫描信号。例如,当多个扫描信号被供给到像素PX时,一些扫描信号可以以一个频率被供给,而不管用于驱动像素PX的刷新率的改变。
例如,在图2A的像素PX的情况下,根据刷新率,不同的扫描信号可以被供给到第二晶体管T2和第三晶体管T3。例如,供给到第三晶体管T3的扫描信号可以以根据刷新率的改变而改变的频率(即,响应于掩蔽信号MS)被供给。另一方面,供给到第二晶体管T2的扫描信号可以以恒定的频率被供给,而不管刷新率的改变。在此情况下,图4A和图4B示出了供给到第三晶体管T3的扫描信号。
根据一些示例实施例,虚设扫描线SL0用于供给用以驱动第一像素行中的像素PX的虚设扫描信号。
如图4A中所示,扫描信号可以以120Hz的频率被供给到与第一区域DA1相对应的扫描线SL1至SLi,并且扫描信号可以以60Hz的频率被供给到与第二区域DA2相对应的扫描线SLi+1至SLn。因此,可以降低由于供给到第二区域DA2的扫描信号的切换而引起的功耗。
另一方面,发射控制信号可以以与第一刷新率RR1相同的频率(例如,120Hz)被供给到发射控制线EL1至ELn,而不管显示区域之间的刷新率的改变。
然而,这作为示例,发射控制信号可以以第二刷新率RR2的频率被供给到第二区域DA2的发射控制线ELi+1至ELn。

然而,这是示例,但是判断静态图像的方法不限于此。可以通过各种已知算法和/或硬件配置来确定图像块IB是否为静态图像。
同时,静态图像仅需要检查对应区域的图像数据是否匹配,使得可以仅比较数据校验和的最低有效位(LSB)。例如,可以仅比较对应图像块IB的图像数据的校验和的最后4位。因此,减轻了用于比较数据的负担,并且不使用诸如帧存储器的存储器配置。

根据一些示例实施例,当第一图像块(例如,设定或预定第一图像块)被确定为静态图像时,块控制器240可以将关于新的第二图像块的信息提供到图像分析器220。根据一些示例实施例,第二图像块可以是在第二方向DR2上与第一图像块邻近的图像块。图像分析器220可以确定第二图像块是否为静态图像。块控制器240和图像分析器220可以重复该操作,直至检测到视频为止。
当确定与整个像素单元100相对应的图像块IB中的全部都是静态图像时,块控制器240可以将第一静态图像区域数据SIA1提供到频率控制器260。在此情况下,第一静态图像区域数据SIA1可以指示整个像素单元100。
根据一些示例实施例,当确定图像块IB不是静态图像时,块控制器240可以通过改变图像块IB的在第一方向DR1上的顶部像素行的位置来减小图像块IB的尺寸。块控制器240可以将关于减小的图像块IB的信息提供到图像分析器220。图像分析器220可以确定减小的图像块IB是否为静态图像。在此情况下,当减小的图像块IB被确定为静态图像时,块控制器240可以将第一静态图像区域数据SIA1提供到频率控制器260。第一静态图像区域数据SIA1可以指示从减小的图像块IB的顶部像素行到最后像素行的区域。
同时,块控制器240和图像分析器220可以通过减小对应的图像块IB来重复比较图像数据的操作,直至检测到静态图像为止。然而,当图像块IB的尺寸减小到小于或等于像素行的数量(例如,像素行的设定或预定数量)时,块控制器240可以停止减小图像块IB,并且将第二静态图像区域数据SIA2提供到频率控制器260。在此情况下,第二静态图像区域数据SIA2可以是最终确定第二区域DA2的数据。即,包括在第二静态图像区域数据SIA2中的顶部像素行被确定为边界像素行BPL。
频率控制器260可以基于第一静态图像区域数据SIA1或第二静态图像区域数据SIA2,将第二刷新率RR2应用于被确定为静态图像的图像块IB。频率控制器260可以基于静态图像区域数据SIA1或SIA2,产生指示应用第二刷新率RR2的第一像素行的低频驱动信号LFD。频率控制器260可以将低频驱动信号LFD供给到时序控制器300。
低频驱动信号LFD包括关于包括在静态图像区域数据SIA1或SIA2中的顶部像素行的信息。因此,以第二刷新率RR2驱动的显示区域的位置可以被改变。根据一些示例实施例,低频驱动信号LFD可以进一步包括第二刷新率RR2的频率信息。
根据一些示例实施例,当第一区域DA1或第二区域DA2的图像数据被改变时,频率控制器260可以输出用于初始化第一区域DA1或第二区域DA2的初始化信号INS。扫描驱动器400可以响应于初始化信号INS以第一刷新率RR1将扫描信号供给到全部扫描线SL1至SLn。
如以上所描述的,通过在改变图像块IB的位置、尺寸和数量的同时重复比较图像数据的操作,可以检测第一区域DA1与第二区域DA2之间的准确边界。另外,随着应用第二刷新率RR2的区域逐渐增大,可以确定最优或期望边界像素行BPL。
因此,可以最小化用于以多个频率(或多个刷新率)驱动的功耗。
图7A至图7I是示出根据本发明的一些示例实施例的显示设备的驱动方法的图。
参考图1、图7A至图7I,同时显示视频VI和静态图像SI的显示设备1000可以基于比较在多个帧期间的图像数据IDATA的结果来确定作为第二区域DA2的顶部像素行的边界像素行BPL。
如图7A中所示,多频驱动器200可以确定第一图像块IB1是否为静态图像。多频驱动器200可以基于第一图像块IB1的前一帧(例如,第k-1帧(k为自然数))的图像数据与当前帧(例如,第k帧)的图像数据之间的差,来确定第一图像块IB1是否为静态图像。
当第一图像块IB1被确定为静态图像时,多频驱动器200可以产生与第一图像块IB1的顶部像素行相对应的第一低频驱动信号LFD1。
时序控制器300和扫描驱动器400可以基于第一低频驱动信号LFD1在当前帧中以第二刷新率RR2驱动第一图像块IB1。根据一些示例实施例,发射驱动器500和/或数据驱动器600可以以第二刷新率RR2驱动第一图像块IB1。因此,可以通过立即分析从处理器10接收的图像数据IDATA来实时执行多频驱动而不丢帧。
除了第一图像块IB1之外的其余区域以第一刷新率RR1被驱动。
如图7B中所示,对于第k+1帧的图像数据,多频驱动器200可以确定第一图像块IB1和第二图像块IB2是否为静态图像。第二图像块IB2可以在第二方向DR2上与第一图像块IB1邻近。即,可以在扫描方向SCAN的相反方向上执行图像块是否为静态图像的确定。
当第一图像块IB1和第二图像块IB2被确定为静态图像时,多频驱动器200可以产生与第二图像块IB2的顶部像素行相对应的第二低频驱动信号LFD2。因此,在第k+1帧中可以以第二刷新率RR2驱动第一图像块IB1和第二图像块IB2。接下来,可以执行图7C中所示的操作。
同时,在图7B中,当确定第一图像块IB1不是静态图像时,可以重置用于比较图像数据的操作。例如,用于比较图像数据的操作被停止,并且在时间过去(例如,设定或预定时间过去)之后,可以执行图7A的操作。
如图7C中所示,对于第k+2帧的图像数据,多频驱动器200可以确定第一图像块IB1、第二图像块IB2和第三图像块IB3是否为静态图像。由于图7C的操作与图7B的操作基本相同,因此将省略冗余的描述。
多频驱动器200可以产生与第三图像块IB3的顶部像素行相对应的第三低频驱动信号LFD3。因此,在第k+2帧中可以以第二刷新率RR2驱动第一图像块IB1至第三图像块IB3。
接下来,如图7D中所示,对于第k+3帧的图像数据,可以执行第一图像块IB1至第四图像块IB4是否为静态图像的确定。当第四图像块IB4包括视频时,第三低频驱动信号LFD3的输出可以被保持。因此,可以以第二刷新率RR2驱动仅第一图像块IB1至第三图像块IB3。
接下来,如图7E和图7F中所示,可以减小第四图像块IB4(即,如IB4’和IB4”所示),直至在第四图像块IB4中不包括视频为止。多频驱动器200还可以对减小的第四图像块IB4’和IB4”执行静态图像确定。可以重复通过减小图像块来确定静态图像的操作,直至检测到静态图像与视频之间的边界为止。然而,当用以减轻系统负担和操作的减小的图像具有设定或预定尺寸或更小时,可以停止用于检测边界的操作。
根据一些示例实施例,当减小的第四图像块IB4”具有小于或等于像素行的数量(例如,像素行的设定或预定数量)时,多频驱动器200可以停止减小图像块,并且确定减小的第四图像块IB4”的顶部像素行为边界像素行BPL。例如,当减小的第四图像块IB4”包括20个或更少像素行时,可以停止图像块的减小。
多频驱动器200可以输出与边界像素行BPL相对应的第四低频驱动信号LFD4。因此,从边界像素行BPL到最后像素行的区域可以被确定为第二区域DA2,并且以第二刷新率RR2被驱动。
因此,第一区域DA1与第二区域DA2之间的边界可以通过图7A至图7F的过程相对精确地被检测。另外,在用于检测第二区域DA2(和边界像素行BPL)的搜索时段期间,以第二刷新率RR2驱动的区域的尺寸可以向第二方向DR2逐渐增大。因此,在搜索时段期间,以第二刷新率RR2驱动的扫描线和/或发射控制线的数量可以逐渐增大。
同时,在图7A至图7F中以1帧的间隔执行静态图像检测和多频驱动,但是静态图像检测和多频驱动不限于此。例如,在第k帧中通过比较图像数据产生低频驱动信号LDF1之后,可以基于第k帧中的低频驱动信号LDF1以第二刷新率RR2驱动对应的区域。
接下来,如图7G中所示,多频驱动器200可以将整个第二区域重置为一个新图像块N_IB,并且执行新图像块N_IB的静态图像确定。由于通过一个图像块监控静态图像,因此可以减少用于比较图像数据的资源的使用,并且新图像块N_IB中的图像改变的感测可以是容易的。
接下来,如图7H中所示,在第j帧(其中j为自然数)中可能发生在其中第二区域DA2的图像被改变的图像改变事件。例如,视频的位置可以被改变(从VI1到VI2)或者视频的尺寸可以被改变。可替代地,第二区域DA2的图像可以通过用户的触摸被改变。在此情况下,如图7I中所示,多频驱动器200可以产生初始化信号以将初始化信号提供到时序控制器300和/或扫描驱动器400。初始化信号可以包括用以初始化(或删除)边界像素行BPL和第二区域DA2的位置的命令。
因此,扫描驱动器400可以响应于初始化信号以第一刷新率RR1将扫描信号供给到扫描线SL1至SLn。即,可以以第一刷新率RR1驱动整个像素单元100。
接下来,可以重新开始图7A的操作。
如以上所描述的,根据本发明的一些示例实施例的显示设备1000及其驱动方法可以在没有帧存储器等的情况下实时执行图像数据比较,并且可以在短时间内逐渐增大应用第二刷新率RR2的区域的同时,检测第一区域DA1与第二区域DA2之间的最优或期望边界像素行BPL。因此,可以在不增加用于检测边界像素行BPL的成本的情况下,最小化用于以多个频率(或多个刷新率)驱动的功耗。
图8是示出图1的显示设备1000的操作的示例的图。
参考图1、图7H、图7I和图8,当发生第二区域DA2的图像改变事件时,可以通过避免多频驱动而以单频驱动显示设备1000。
第一情况CASE1示出了在其中显示设备1000通过图7H和图7I的驱动以单频被驱动的示例性实施例。即,当在第j帧中发生第二区域DA2的图像改变事件时,在第j+1帧中,单频驱动可以通过多频驱动器200的静态图像确定操作而被延迟一帧或更多帧。
根据一些示例实施例,当第二区域DA2的图像改变事件发生时,处理器10可以将命令信号提供给多频驱动器200和/或时序控制器300,该命令信号命令立即以单频驱动。例如,当在第j帧中发生第二区域DA2的图像改变事件时,像素单元100可以在第j+1帧中以单频(单个刷新率)被驱动。
根据一些示例实施例,当在第j帧中发生第二区域DA2的图像改变事件时,处理器10可以在第j帧中改变与第二区域DA2相对应的图像数据,并且可以将改变的图像数据CDATA供给到多频驱动器200(在第二情况CASE2下)。例如,处理器10可以改变包括在最后像素行中的一个像素的图像数据。因此,多频驱动器200可以检测第二区域DA2的图像数据的改变。多频驱动器200可以在第j帧中输出初始化信号(在图5中被示出为INS),并且像素单元100可以在第j+1帧中以单频被驱动。
因此,可以没有延迟地执行单频驱动,并且当从多频驱动转换到单频驱动时可以提高图像质量。
图9是示出根据本发明的一些示例实施例的显示设备的驱动方法的流程图。
参考图9,显示设备的驱动方法可以通过将第一图像块的前一图像帧的图像数据与第一图像块的当前图像帧的图像数据进行比较,来确定第一图像块是否为静态图像(S110)。当第一图像块不是静态图像时,可以以第一刷新率驱动第一图像块(S130),并且可以在第一方向上减小第一图像块的尺寸(S140)。接下来,包括在减小的第一图像块中的像素行中的一个像素行可以被确定为边界像素行,并且可以确定包括边界像素行的静态图像区域(S160)。

Claims (20)
1.一种显示设备,包括:
像素单元,包括连接到多条扫描线和多条数据线的多个像素;
多频驱动器,被配置为比较邻近帧之间的图像数据,以确定所述像素单元的以第一刷新率驱动的第一区域以及所述像素单元的以低于所述第一刷新率的第二刷新率驱动的第二区域;
扫描驱动器,被配置为在第一方向上将扫描信号顺序地供给到所述扫描线,以所述第一刷新率将所述扫描信号供给到所述第一区域,并且以所述第二刷新率将所述扫描信号供给到所述第二区域;以及
数据驱动器,被配置为将与所述图像数据相对应的数据信号供给到所述数据线。
2.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中,
所述多频驱动器被配置为基于比较在多个帧期间的所述图像数据的结果,确定作为所述第二区域的顶部像素行的边界像素行。
3.根据权利要求2所述的显示设备,其中,
所述扫描驱动器被配置为以所述第二刷新率将所述扫描信号从所述边界像素行供给到最后像素行。
4.根据权利要求2所述的显示设备,其中,
所述多频驱动器被配置为基于视频显示在所述像素单元的一部分上,在用于确定所述边界像素行的搜索时段期间,在与所述第一方向相反的第二方向上逐渐增大以所述第二刷新率驱动的区域的尺寸。
5.根据权利要求4所述的显示设备,其中,
所述扫描驱动器被配置为响应于所述多频驱动器的命令,在所述搜索时段期间逐渐增大以所述第二刷新率驱动的所述扫描线的数量。
6.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中,
所述多频驱动器包括:
图像分析器,被配置为将包括在所述像素单元中的图像块的前一帧的图像数据与所述图像块的当前帧的图像数据进行比较,以确定所述图像块是否为静态图像;
块控制器,被配置为确定所述图像块的尺寸、数量和位置,在所述图像块中要确定所述图像块是否为静态图像;以及
频率控制器,被配置为将所述第二刷新率应用于被确定为所述静态图像的所述图像块。
7.根据权利要求6所述的显示设备,其中,
所述图像分析器被配置为基于第一图像块被确定为所述静态图像,确定所述第一图像块和与所述第一图像块邻近的第二图像块是否为静态图像。
8.根据权利要求7所述的显示设备,其中,
所述频率控制器被配置为响应于被确定为所述静态图像的图像块的数量,在与所述第一方向相反的第二方向上扩展所述像素单元的部分,所述第二刷新率被应用于所述像素单元的所述部分。
9.根据权利要求6所述的显示设备,其中,
所述块控制器被配置为通过基于所述图像块被确定为不是所述静态图像,改变所述图像块的顶部像素行相对于所述第一方向的位置,来减小所述图像块的尺寸。
10.根据权利要求9所述的显示设备,其中,
所述图像分析器被配置为基于所述图像块被确定为不是所述静态图像,确定所减小的图像块是否为所述静态图像。
11.根据权利要求9所述的显示设备,其中,
所述块控制器被配置为基于所述图像块的尺寸被减小到小于或等于预定数量的像素行,将包括在所减小的图像块中的多个像素行中的一个像素行确定为作为所述第二区域的顶部像素行的边界像素行,并且确定包括所述边界像素行的所述第二区域。
12.根据权利要求11所述的显示设备,其中,
所述频率控制器被配置为基于所述第二区域的图像数据被改变,输出初始化信号,以初始化所述第二区域和所述边界像素行。
13.根据权利要求12所述的显示设备,其中,
所述扫描驱动器被配置为响应于所述初始化信号,以所述第一刷新率将所述扫描信号供给到所述扫描线。
14.根据权利要求6所述的显示设备,其中,
所述图像分析器被配置为基于所述图像块的所述前一帧的所述图像数据的校验和与所述图像块的所述当前帧的所述图像数据的校验和之间的差来确定所述图像块是否为所述静态图像。
15.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中,
所述第一区域包括视频,并且
显示在所述第二区域中的图像为静态图像。
16.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,进一步包括:
时序控制器,被配置为以所述第一刷新率将与所述第一区域相对应的第一图像数据供给到所述数据驱动器,并且以所述第二刷新率将与所述第二区域相对应的第二图像数据供给到所述数据驱动器;以及
处理器,被配置为当所述第二区域的图像改变事件发生时,改变所述第二图像数据的一些以供给所述多频驱动器。
17.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中,
所述数据驱动器被配置为以所述第一刷新率将与所述第一区域相对应的所述数据信号供给到所述像素单元,并且以所述第二刷新率将与所述第二区域相对应的所述数据信号供给到所述像素单元。
18.一种显示设备的驱动方法,包括:
将第一图像块的前一图像帧的图像数据与所述第一图像块的当前图像帧的图像数据进行比较,以确定所述第一图像块是否为静态图像;
当所述第一图像块不是静态图像时,以第一刷新率驱动所述第一图像块,并且减小所述第一图像块在第一方向上的尺寸;
确定包括在所减小的第一图像块中的像素行中的一个像素行为静态图像区域与视频区域之间的边界像素行,并且确定包括所述边界像素行的所述静态图像区域;并且
当所述第一图像块为静态图像时,以低于所述第一刷新率的第二刷新率驱动所述第一图像块。
19.根据权利要求18所述的驱动方法,其中,
确定所述静态图像区域之后进一步包括:
以所述第二刷新率驱动所述静态图像区域,并且以所述第一刷新率驱动所述视频区域,并且
所述静态图像区域包括从所述边界像素行到最后像素行的区域。
20.根据权利要求19所述的驱动方法,其中,
在用于确定所述边界像素行的搜索时段期间,以所述第二刷新率驱动的区域的尺寸逐渐增大。
