The red mud is industrial solid waste discharged when aluminum oxide is extracted in the aluminum industry, and is called red mud because of large iron oxide content and similar appearance to red mud. The red mud has higher pH value, so the alkalinity is extremely high, the treatment of the red mud usually needs more areas of yard stacking, occupies a large amount of land, pollutes the environment while stacking, and also needs high maintenance cost; at present, the application of red mud to highway construction is one direction of research of people, because the pavement of the highway needs a large amount of materials, the problem of red mud treatment can be solved, but the alkalinity of the red mud needs to be treated when the red mud is used; the phosphogypsum is a solid waste produced in a wet-process phosphoric acid process, the components of the phosphogypsum are mainly calcium sulfate dihydrate, a large amount of phosphogypsum is produced every year in China, the phosphogypsum is acidic, and the phosphogypsum and red mud can play a role in mixing and neutralizing.
The ardealite and the red mud can be mixed and neutralized, but the harmfulness of the mixture still needs to be noticed, and meanwhile, the property of the mixture is not suitable for road paving, and the treatment effect can be completely achieved only by treating and modifying the mixture for road paving;
the pavement cushion layer is a structural layer between a base layer or a subbase layer and a roadbed, and mainly plays a role in diffusing load stress and improving the water temperature condition of the roadbed so as to ensure that the strength, rigidity and stability of the surface layer and the base layer are not influenced by the adverse effect caused by the change of the water temperature condition of the soil base.
