Generally, a Light Emitting Diode (LED) or a laser beam is used as a transmitter at one end of the optical fiber to transmit an optical pulse to the optical fiber, and a photosensor is used as a receiver at the other end of the optical fiber to detect the pulse. In the multimode optical fiber, the core diameter is 50 μm and 62.5 μm, which are approximately equivalent to the thickness of human hair. Whereas the diameter of the single-mode optical fiber core is 8 μm to 10 μm, 9/125 μm is generally used.
