背景技术
聚合物被广泛用于制造各种产品,包括吹塑膜和流延膜、挤出片材、注塑制品、泡沫、吹塑制品、挤出管材、单丝、纤维和非织造织物。用于形成这些产品的许多聚合物,诸如聚烯烃,是天然疏水的或非极性的,并且是化学惰性的。对于许多用途而言,疏水性是缺点,特别是当使用具有比聚合物基材的表面能相对较高的表面张力的水基油墨印刷时。例如,水基油墨可具有大于或等于45达因/厘米的表面张力能的表面张力,而聚合物基材可具有约30达因/厘米的表面张力能。表面张力是将流体保持在一起的力。表面张力直接影响涂层是否将润湿并铺展在基材上或从基材回缩(成珠)。虽然基材疏水性对于较低表面张力的油墨或溶剂基油墨可能不是问题,但是聚合物基材的非极性性质仍然不会促进这些水性或溶剂基油墨对聚合物基材的良好粘附,从而导致印刷的图形在承受剪切力时将容易地擦掉。

吸收制品,尤其是个人护理吸收制品,诸如卫生护垫、卫生巾、阴唇间装置、成人失禁装置、绷带、擦拭物、尿布、训练裤和游泳裤,通常包括由非织造聚合物织物制成的外覆层,或者替代地,外覆层通过在塑料膜上印刷,然后将非织造材料铺于印刷的塑料膜顶部上而制成。例如,尿布、训练裤和游泳裤的外覆层难以以适于高效的机器生产的快速和经济的方式印刷。
因此,需要通过提高印刷速度来提高油墨对上述吸收制品的外覆层的粘附性。本公开通过利用一种方法来满足该需求,在该方法中,可以将图案和/或图形直接印刷到小孔尺寸或无孔的非织造基材上,或者替代地,将图案/图形印刷到塑料膜上,然后将非织造材料放置在印刷膜的顶部上。本文公开的新方法可以实现至少500英尺/分钟或更高的快速印刷速度,而无需使用干燥步骤,从而减少了制造过程时间和成本。
发明内容

吸收制品

根据本公开,已发现吸收制品上的印刷图像的质量可在约500英尺/分钟或更高的印刷速度下保持,并且可在没有单独的干燥步骤的情况下达到高达约2000英尺/分钟或更高的速度。通过在没有干燥步骤的情况下实现这种快速的印刷速度,将降低制造外附成本,并提高使用者的效率。
关于水性油墨技术的工业标准要求颜料吸收到基材上,同时通过在干燥炉中蒸发除去水。为了以当前的处理速度充分干燥这些水性油墨,干燥炉必须为至少40英尺或更大。大多数生产线没有足够的空间容纳这些类型的大型干燥炉,在经济上也不可行。而且,即使可以修改这些生产线以适应这些大型干燥炉,它们的操作成本和对印刷质量的潜在影响也将是冒险的,并且成本过高而无法证明实施这种生产线所需的费用是合理的。因此,需要一种不需要这些大型干燥炉的解决方案。
令人惊讶地和出乎意料地,本公开已经找到了前述内容的解决方案。用于将颜料吸收到基材上的解决方案不是用大型干燥炉蒸发液体,而是用薄的吸墨涂层将液体(诸如水和颜料)铺展并吸收到基材上。
吸墨涂层
吸墨涂层需要足够厚以吸收水性油墨中包含的液体,诸如水。实现通过涂层充分除去液体的最佳厚度为约0.1毫米或更小。
合适的吸墨涂层包括但不限于吸收材料,如滑石、纤维素纤维、超吸收剂,例如以帮助吸收。涂层还可包含润湿剂,如表面活性剂,以确保当油墨与涂层接触时接近零的接触角。涂层可包括其他涂层和到基材的涂层,以改善干摩擦牢度和湿摩擦牢度。
在吸收液体后,本文公开的吸墨涂层的基重从其原始重量平均降低约25%至约35%。水性油墨包含颜料,其中涂层以零度或约零度的接触角从油墨中吸收液体诸如水,此时该油墨以至少约500英尺/分钟的印刷速度被印刷到基材上。重要的是应注意,吸墨涂层必须具有一定的厚度,优选约0.0015mm,并且具有一定的基重,优选3gsm,以便提高涂层的吸收速率和润湿速率。吸墨涂层的吸收速率和润湿速率是本公开的重要量度。因此,从吸墨涂层上的油墨中除去液体的速度可以是10秒或更短。或更优选5秒或更短。或甚至更优选2秒或更短。或最优选1秒或更短。更具体地讲,在制造过程中,将液化的着色油墨涂覆到涂层上,由此液体诸如水被涂层吸收,然后油墨可被吸收到基材上,从而无需使用干设备。
水性油墨组合物
本发明的实施方案包括包含水基油墨的油墨组合物。油墨组合物可包含水基聚合物、粘结剂组分、再溶解剂、颜料和任选的蜡和/或润滑剂。可用于本公开的水基油墨的实例可从Environmental Inks and Coatings Corporation,Morganton,N.C.以下列代码获得:EH034677(黄色);EH057960(洋红色);EH028676(青色);EH092391(黑色);EH034676(橙色);和EH064447(绿色)以及它们的任何类似的油墨。其他合适的涂层是喷墨涂层,诸如NuCoatDigitall 9191MIJ或Lubrizol DP338。
水性油墨组合物可包含聚合物,诸如丙烯酸类、丙烯酸类胶乳、苯乙烯化丙烯酸类、乙烯乙酸乙烯酯、乙烯氯乙烯和苯乙烯丁二烯橡胶(SBR)或它们的任何组合。
水性油墨组合物可包含粘结剂组分。粘结剂组分可以为油墨组合物的约20重量%至约45重量%。在本发明的一个实施方案中,粘结剂组分可以是聚氨酯分散体(在本文中也称为“PUD”)。PUD可以是高伸长率、高拉伸强度、高硬度、水基聚合物分散体。
水性油墨可包含蜡组分。蜡组分可以为水性油墨组合物的约8重量%至约18重量%。蜡或蜡共混物可用于本发明。合适的蜡/共混物包含聚乙烯、棕榈蜡、石蜡、硅油、聚丙烯、聚烯烃共混物以及它们的组合。
水性油墨可包含再溶解剂。再溶解剂可以为油墨组合物的约5.0重量%至约16.0重量%。可用于本发明的再溶解剂包括具有高至中等羧基官能度的丙烯酸类溶液和分散体。在一个实施方案中,中等酸值的丙烯酸胶态分散体再溶解剂可用于本公开。
水性油墨组合物可包含用于脱粘和降低CoF的附加的蜡和润滑剂。附加的蜡/润滑剂共混物可以由棕榈蜡(蜡)和硅油(润滑剂)组成。在一个实施方案中,蜡/润滑剂共混物为组合物的约1重量%至约4重量%。可用于本发明的蜡包括聚乙烯、聚丙烯、高密度聚乙烯、低密度聚乙烯和石蜡。
着色水性油墨组合物和印刷技术
水性油墨可包含颜料。合适的颜料的实例包括但不限于蓝色15:3、紫色23、紫色27、黄色14、黄色74、黄色83、黄色97、黄色13、绿色7、红色2、红色22、红色48:1、红色57:1、红色122、红色184、红色238、红色269、红色49:1、红色81:1、红色49:2、红色166、红色170、橙色5、橙色16、橙色46、白色7、黑色7、氧化铁以及它们的组合。在一个实施方案中,使用约10重量%至约16重量%的颜料,但这可根据特定的颜色和所需的密度而变化。在一个实施方案中,胶态分散体中的颜料(统称为着色剂)可用于本公开。
基材诸如织造和非织造织物和膜的印刷是众所周知的。用油墨和染料印刷织物是一种用于赋予基础织物图案和颜色的普遍且广泛使用的方法。许多当前的产品(诸如尿布和训练裤)包括印刷图形以改善它们的外观。这种印刷产品的问题在于,在处理产品的过程中,在制造、包装和使用的过程中,印刷图形可能被弄脏或甚至被除去。
着色油墨对于在基材上使用是有益的,因为它们往往比染料基油墨更耐浸出和机械摩擦,因此往往更耐从基材表面除去。颜料基油墨还具有比染料基油墨更好的每单位重量的光密度(更好的“里程数”),这意味着需要更少的颜料基油墨来产生颜色的强度。然而,粘合剂组分必须与着色油墨一起使用,以防止颜料通过机械磨损或化学浸出而从表面除去。
近年来,颜料基油墨的工业重要性日益提高。这部分是由许多无法使用常规溶剂基油墨或水基油墨印刷的新型合成基材的开发以及消费者偏好他们的商品印刷有品牌标识符、美学上令人愉悦的图案或功能标记而驱动的。为了使颜料基油墨适用于多种应用,即低表面张力基材,其他人已经采用高负载的挥发性有机化合物(“VOC's”),从而降低油墨的静态和动态表面张力。然而,挥发性有机化合物诸如醇、酯、酮、芳族化合物和脂族化合物在它们的生产、处置和使用中会产生环境危害。它们还很昂贵。Schleinz等人的美国专利号5,458,590中描述了在低表面张力基材上使用的油墨的一个实例,其采用溶剂共混物以赋予油墨所需的表面张力,该专利以引用方式并入本文。
水性油墨组合物可包含表面活性剂。表面活性剂可以以油墨组合物的约1.0重量%至约10.0重量%的范围存在。可用于本发明的表面活性剂包括磺基琥珀酸二辛酯、磷酸酯、烷氧基化醇、乙氧基化二醇以及它们的混合物或共混物。
可以使用喷墨印刷机、柔性版印刷机、凹版印刷机或它们的组合将水性油墨组合物涂覆到基材。水性油墨组合物可以被印刷在吸收制品组件的不同部分上,包括但不限于前腰区、后腰区、将前腰区和后腰区互连的裆区,以及可从吸收制品的侧裁片延伸到箍或翼片的外表面。
如前所述,本文公开的基材优选是非常疏水的,诸如未经处理的聚乙烯和聚丙烯。基材也可用其他成分处理以改善涂层对基材的粘附性。电晕处理基材以提高涂层对基材的粘附性在本文中也用于改善涂层对基材的粘附性。电晕处理必须在最佳时间进行。如果电晕处理时间过长,将会破坏涂层和基材表面的性能。对于本文的公开内容,可以使用其他合适的印刷方法,诸如数字喷墨印刷。
在一个实施方案中,通过柔性版印刷或轮转凹版印刷将水性油墨组合物涂覆到基材上。在本公开的另一个实施方案中,印刷到吸收制品上的图案或图形通过在印刷包装的吸收制品上的稀疏印刷来完成。稀疏印刷被定义为低基重油墨,其中孔隙率足够小以限制油墨和/或液体在吸墨涂层诸如塑料膜或微小或无孔非织造材料上的铺展。通过在这种表面上印刷,将在最终印刷的吸收制品上提供更平滑的图像/图形和/或图案。
本公开的其他印刷实施方案涉及使用计量辊或刮墨刀系统。计量辊是一种有凹痕的金属辊,用于将计量的油墨膜从墨斗转移到柔性版印刷板的表面。刮墨刀系统是一种用于从印刷滚筒除去多余油墨的机械装置。当它除去一些油墨时,它允许一些油墨停留在滚筒上,从而计量离开滚筒的油墨量。
实施例
制备如本文公开的吸墨制品的一个实例是将吸收层添加到聚烯烃膜上。实现此目的的一种方法是通过将滑石粉,薄纸(纤维素纤维)和吸收性织物缠绕在聚烯烃膜上。为了比较,工业标准是在电晕或等离子体处理的聚烯烃膜上印刷。
使用NuCoat Digitall 9191作为印刷接收涂层,用于在不使用干燥器的情况下提高印刷速度。具体地讲,发现使用基重为12gsm的NuCoat Digitall 9191将产生约1400fpm的印刷速度。在不使用电晕处理器的情况下收集了该结果。

将吸墨涂层涂覆到基材,其中所述涂层的厚度为约0.1毫米或更小,并且基重为约2gsm至约18gsm,以及
以至少约500英尺/分钟的印刷速度穿过所述吸墨涂层将包含颜料的水性油墨涂覆到疏水基材,其中所述涂层以零度或约零度的接触角从所述油墨吸收液体。
12.根据权利要求11所述的用于制备印刷吸收制品的印刷方法,其中所述涂层的厚度为约0.0015毫米,并且基重为约3gsm。
13.根据权利要求11所述的用于制备印刷吸收制品的印刷方法,其中所述基材是聚烯烃或塑料膜。
14.根据权利要求11所述的用于制备印刷吸收制品的印刷方法,其中所述基材包括纸、木材、织造织物、纺织品、塑料、玻璃、金属、箔或它们的组合。
15.根据权利要求11所述的用于制备印刷吸收制品的印刷方法,其中所述吸墨涂层包括滑石、纤维素纤维、超吸收无定形二氧化硅或它们的组合。
16.根据权利要求11所述的用于制备印刷吸收制品的印刷方法,其中所述吸墨涂层包含表面活性剂。
17.根据权利要求11所述的用于制备印刷吸收制品的印刷方法,其中所述印刷速度可以为约1000、约1400或约2000英尺/分钟。
18.根据权利要求11所述的用于制备印刷吸收制品的印刷方法,其中穿过所述涂层涂覆到所述基材的水性油墨的量取决于在所述基材上绘制图形、图案或编号所需的油墨的量。
19.根据权利要求11所述的用于制备印刷吸收制品的印刷方法,其中在将所述水性油墨涂覆到所述基材上后,被所述涂层吸收的水性油墨的量相同。
