Abstract

The invention relates to a housing (2) for a lighting device (1), preferably a floodlight lighting device (1), particularly preferably an outdoor floodlight lighting device (1), particularly preferably a LED floodlight lighting device (1), the housing (2) being configured to provide a watertight receptacle (21) for a light source, wherein a watertight connection box (3) is integrated in the housing (2), and to a lighting device comprising such a housing.

Technical Field
The present invention relates to a housing for a lighting device, in particular a floodlight, more particularly an outdoor floodlight lighting device and even more particularly a LED floodlight lighting device, and to a lighting device.
Background
It is known to use floodlights for illuminating, for example, outdoor sports stadiums, construction sites or as stage lighting for illuminating instruments or performance stages like concerts and dramas.
In this respect, floodlights comprising one LED or more likely a plurality of LEDs as light source are increasingly entering the field of application of floodlights, because they have a significantly lower power consumption compared to other conventional light sources like halogen lamps. In addition, LEDs have a longer lifetime.
Because floodlights are commonly used for outdoor applications, like illuminating outdoor sports fields, they may be exposed to dust and to moisture due to contact with rain or fog. Therefore, in order to ensure safe operation of the lighting device, a dustproof and waterproof design must be provided for the lighting device.
In this respect, it is known to provide floodlights with a housing: the LED and required driving components for driving the LED are housed in a sealed manner in the housing.
In order to provide electrical connection of the LED to the driver inside the housing, common housings comprise an outlet opening for the electrical wiring, wherein the opening is sealed with respect to the sheath of the wiring to provide a waterproof design at the outlet opening.
Therefore, in order to make electrical contact, the wiring must be connected to an external wiring that provides power. Therefore, additional water tight (waterlight) connection boxes or connectors, respectively, are required. The connection box remote from the housing provides a sealed interior space for the connection of the aforementioned wiring. To this end, the connection box comprises a wall in which a watertight access for the two wires is provided, so that both wires can be inserted into an inner space for electrical connection.
Disclosure of Invention
In view of the known prior art, it is an object of the present invention to provide an improved housing for a lighting device and an improved lighting device.
This object is achieved by a housing according to the invention for a lighting device, preferably for a floodlight lighting device, particularly preferably for an outdoor floodlight lighting device, particularly preferably for a LED floodlight lighting device. The specification and drawings present preferred embodiments.
Accordingly, a housing for a lighting device, preferably for a floodlight lighting device, particularly preferably for an outdoor floodlight lighting device, particularly preferably for a LED floodlight lighting device, is provided, wherein the housing is configured to provide a watertight receiving portion for a light source. Furthermore, according to the invention, a watertight connection box is integrated in the housing.
The integration of a watertight connection box in the housing produces the following effects: in contrast to conventional housings, the following external wiring out of the housing is no longer required: this external wiring leaving the housing is to be inserted into an additional connection box remote from the housing and connected therein with a further main power supply supplying the external wiring. Thus, conventional additional external connection boxes may also be omitted. This also produces the effect of saving external wiring between the housing and the additional external connection box. By eliminating the aforementioned components, the complexity and required installation space can be reduced or even minimized. Thus, in addition, the probability of error due to incorrect installation by the user can be significantly reduced. Also, the installation space required for the lighting device is reduced as compared with a lighting device having a conventional housing.
Furthermore, housings designed in this way include a compact and neat appearance, which is becoming increasingly important as floodlight lighting fixtures become increasingly relevant as part of the overall design concept.
When the connection box is formed in one piece with the housing according to a further preferred embodiment, a particularly compact size design and simple manufacture can be achieved.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the connection box comprises a removable cover, wherein the cover is attached to the connection box in a sealing manner, wherein preferably a sealing gasket is arranged between the contact face of the connection box and the cover. Thus, the interior space of the connection box is easily accessible, so that it is simple for a user to install electrical connections inside the connection box. After the electrical connection, the connection box only needs to be closed and sealed by attaching or reattaching the cover to the connection box.
In order to ensure that external wiring providing a connection to the main power supply can be introduced into the interior space of the connection box from outside the connection box, according to a further preferred embodiment the connection box comprises a cable gland for providing a sealed access for the external wiring, wherein preferably the cable gland is arranged at the cover.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the connection box comprises a watertight vent, preferably a watertight screw-in vent, wherein preferably the vent is arranged at the lid. Thereby, an overpressure, for example due to a temperature increase inside the connection box, may be prevented, which might otherwise lead to leakage or even mechanical deformation, which might cause the watertight seal to be broken.
When the connection box comprises internal wiring for electrical connection with the light source and/or the driver of the light source, as provided according to a further preferred embodiment, an easy and secure connection of the aforementioned components can be achieved inside the connection box.
Preferably, a watertight grommet is arranged in a wall of the connection box, wherein the grommet provides a watertight outlet for internal wiring through the wall into the interior of the housing. Thus, it is also possible to provide the opening between the connection box and the interior of the housing receiving the driver and/or the light source in a sealed manner. That is, a redundant waterproof design can be achieved, since a two-stage waterproof design is provided by sealing the connection box with respect to the cover and additionally providing the above-described grommet.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the terminal block is arranged inside the connection box, wherein preferably one side of the terminal block is connected to the internal wiring and the other side of the terminal block is provided for connection with external wiring. Therefore, easy and reliable connection between the internal wiring and the external wiring can be achieved.
When the housing according to a further preferred embodiment comprises a dustproof and waterproof design of class IP 67 or class IP 68, the lighting device comprising said housing can be applied in almost every outdoor installation, since weather and atmospheric influences, respectively, may not have a detrimental effect on the reliable operation of the lighting device comprising a housing of such a design.
A particularly advantageous design can be achieved when, according to a further preferred embodiment, the housing comprises a front side and a rear side, wherein a screen which is at least partially light-transmissive for the light emitted by the light source is arranged at the front side and the connection box is arranged at the rear side.
According to a further preferred embodiment, a fastening, preferably a mechanical fastening, for external wiring is arranged inside the connection box. Thus, the external wiring may be mechanically fixed to the connection box within the connection box such that mechanical forces, in particular pulling forces, exposed to the external wiring may not cause the electrical connection of the external wiring with the internal wiring inside the connection box to be broken.
The above object is also solved by a lighting device according to the present invention. Preferred embodiments are given by the present description and the accompanying drawings.
Accordingly, a lighting device comprising a light source is provided. According to the invention, the light source is housed in a housing according to any of the preceding embodiments.
Since the light source is housed in the housing according to any one of the foregoing embodiments, the effects and advantages described above with respect to the housing can be similarly achieved.
According to another preferred embodiment, the lighting device is a floodlight lighting device, preferably an outdoor floodlight lighting device, particularly preferably a LED floodlight, and particularly preferably an outdoor LED floodlight.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the light source comprises at least one LED, wherein preferably a driver for driving the light source is arranged inside the housing.

Detailed Description
Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. The same or similar element or elements having the same effect may be denoted by the same reference numeral in several figures. A repetitive description of such elements may be omitted to prevent redundancy.
Fig. 1 schematically shows a perspective view of a front face 16 of a housing 2 of a lighting device according to the invention. The housing 2 is designed for an outdoor lighting installation of a LED floodlight. The housing 2 comprises a waterproof design. In this respect, inside the housing 2, the housing 2 comprises a receptacle for receiving the LED light source, wherein the receptacle is sealed in a watertight and dustproof manner with respect to the external environment.
In order to enable the light emitted by the light source to leave the housing 2, the housing 2 comprises a light-transmitting screen 17, which light-transmitting screen 17 is at least partially light-transmitting for the light emitted by the light source. The light-transmitting screen 17 may comprise transparent or opaque and non-light-transmitting areas.
Fig. 2 schematically shows a perspective view of the back side 18 of the housing 2 of fig. 1. The housing 2 comprises a watertight connection box 3 integrated in the housing 2. The watertight connection box 3 is integrally formed with the housing 2, in other words the connection box 3 and the housing 2 are formed in one piece, except that the connection box 3 comprises a removable cover 4. When the lid 4 is attached to the connection box 3, as shown in fig. 2, the lid 4 and the connection box 3 are connected in a sealed manner, as will be explained in more detail below.
Turning to fig. 3, a schematic detailed perspective side view of the connection box 3 integrated in the housing 2 is shown, wherein the cover 4 is removed from the connection box 3. The connection box 3 provides an inner space 20, which inner space 20 is sealed by the cover 4 and a sealing gasket 5 arranged between the contact surfaces of the cover 4 and the connection box 3 when the cover 4 is attached.
In order to attach the cover 4 to the contact face of the connection box 3, a plurality of attachment members 19 are provided. The attachment member 19 according to the present embodiment comprises an internal thread for engagement with a screw.
The internal wiring 10 is led from the inside of the housing 2 through the wall 9 of the connection box 3 into the internal space 20 of the connection box 3. The entrance of the internal wiring 10 through the wall 9 is sealed by means of a watertight grommet 8.
The internal wiring 10 is connected to one side of the terminal block 11 disposed in the internal space 20 of the junction box 3. The other side of the terminal block 11 is for connection to external wiring that provides a connection to a main power supply.
As can be seen in fig. 4, fig. 4 schematically shows a detailed perspective side view of the connection box 3 shown in fig. 3 in a state in which a cover 4 is attached, to which cover 4 a watertight cable gland 6 is attached. By means of the cable gland 6, the insertion of external wiring from the external environment into the connection box 3 can be provided in a sealed manner, i.e. in a watertight and dustproof manner.
Furthermore, the connection box 3 is equipped with a water-tight screw-in vent 7, which vent 7 is arranged on the lid 4 in this embodiment. By means of the vent opening 7, in the event of an overpressure inside the connection box 3, gas in the interior space 20 can escape via the vent opening 7.
Screws are denoted by reference numeral 22, which screws 22 engage with the attachment members 19 shown in fig. 3 for fixing the cover 4 to the contact surface of the connection box 3.
Alternatively, inside the connection box 3, a mechanical fastener (not shown) for holding external wiring may be arranged in the internal space 20.
Fig. 5 schematically shows a lighting device 1 according to the invention comprising a housing 3 as shown in fig. 1 to 4.
The lighting device 1 is a LED floodlight lighting device 1. For a better understanding, in fig. 5 a part of the housing 2 is removed, so that a sealed receiving portion 21 provided by the housing 2 is shown. Inside the receiving portion 21, a light engine 14 including a plurality of LEDs 13 as a light source is arranged. Further, a driver 15 is arranged inside the receiving portion 21 for driving the light source 14.
To be able to supply the driver with electrical power, internal wiring 10 extends from the terminal block 11 through the grommet 8 to the driver 15.
The LED floodlight lighting device 1 according to the embodiment shown in fig. 5 comprises a dust-proof and water-tight design of IP 68 class. Thus, it is suitable for outdoor applications.
Although the present invention has been shown and described in detail by the embodiments explained above, the present invention is not limited to these embodiments. Other variations may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
