Description

Laminated glazing comprising an electrically controlled device and production
The present invention relates to a laminated glazing incorporating an electrical control device and a method of making the same.
Motor vehicle glazings increasingly incorporate a luminous signal or a lighting function by means of inorganic electroluminescent diodes.
Document WO2016079459 describes a luminous laminated glazing forming the windscreen of a motor vehicle, which integrates diodes on a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) in order to deliver a luminous signal warning the driver.
More precisely, in the embodiment related to fig. 5 of this document, the luminous windshield comprises:
-a laminated glazing comprising:
-a first glass sheet forming an outer glass sheet having first and second main faces called F1 and F2;
-a lamination interlayer made of poly (vinyl butyral) (PVB)
A second glass sheet forming an inner glass sheet having third and fourth main faces, designated F3 and F4,
the second and third faces are the interior faces of the laminated glazing;
-a set of diodes on a Printed Circuit Board (PCB), said diodes being able to emit red signal light warning the driver, each diode having an emitting face emitting in the direction of the inner glass on the "front" face of the PCB.
On the back side of the PCB, a double-sided adhesive tape with a thickness of less than 0.05mm, which forms the connection between the glass plate and the PCB.
The formation of bubbles in the double-sided adhesive tape or even haze in the (transparent) adhesive tape is observed, which may lead to appearance defects. The use of such double-sided adhesive tapes is also limited from a process point of view, and is easily contaminated, traps dust, and the like.
The production of such a luminous laminated glazing for motor vehicles or any other application (building, interior or exterior, equipment, etc.) can thus be improved. More broadly, the manufacture of any laminated glazing containing (discrete, surface, etc.) electrically controlled devices can be improved.
A first subject of the invention is therefore a method for making a glazing with an electric control device, in particular a vehicle comprising a laminated glazing, in particular curved, comprising:
-a first transparent glass sheet, in particular of inorganic glass or plastic, in particular curved, -optionally transparent, ultratransparent or tinted, in particular grey or green, preferably curved-which generally forms an outer glass sheet having a first and a second main face, respectively called face F1 and face F2, in particular F1 or F2, each being bare or coated with a layer (transparent or opaque), in particular an inorganic layer (functional layer, single or multilayer, etc., in particular a layer having a thickness of at most 50 μm or even submicron), for automotive glazing, a glass sheet having a thickness of preferably at most 2.5mm, even at most 2.2mm, -in particular 1.9mm, 1.8mm, 1.6mm and 1.4 mm-or even at most 1.3mm or at most 1 mm;

and the window glass comprises:

the method comprises the following steps:
-providing a preassembly comprising the electrical control means, the connecting element and optionally at least one lamination interlayer (called assembly sheet) before laminationElement, connecting element comprising a plastic strip, preferably a thermoplastic strip, having a main face, called connecting face FLFacing the back face of the support body, preferably in the functional area and/or the supply area, in particular (mainly) covering the back face, preferably the plastic strip is set back at most 5mm, 2mm or 1mm from the edge face of the support body, or is flush with the edge face of the support body or protrudes from the edge face of the support body (preferably over a limited area), and the plastic strip has a surface with the connection face FLOpposite free (non-adhesive) main face F';
connecting surface FLAdhesively contacting or adhering to the rear side (connecting side F)LProjecting from the edge face of the support body or not projecting from the edge face of the support body);
and/or
Connecting surface FLProjecting from the edge face of the support body on at least one side (in particular at the border of the functional zone and/or the supply zone in question), which defines a projecting zone ZD of a zone ZA facing one of the main faces of the assembled sheet, the projecting zone ZD being in adhesive contact or bonded with the zone ZA, ZA preferably at most 10cm, 5cm or 1cm from the edge face of the support body, even on two preferably opposite sides, on three sides, projecting on the periphery of the functional zone etc., in particular being connected with another projecting zone ZE of a zone ZB facing one of the main faces of the assembled sheet, for example ZD and ZE projecting from two opposite sides of the support body, ZA and ZB preferably at most 10cm, 5cm or 1cm from the edge face of the support body;
-placing said pre-assembled element between the first and second glass sheets before, after or simultaneously with placing the laminated interlayer between the first and second glass sheets;
and a step of lamination with said pre-assembled element, comprising placing under vacuum, even under pressure, and heating, said lamination step causing a (bare) free face FLIn adhesive contact with the contact surface (of the layer), which is in particular bare or coated, so that the free surface FLIs in adhesive contact with the contact surface:
and in particular to bring the laminated sandwich, in particular the assembled sheet (if necessary), into adhesive contact with faces F2 and F3 (in different zones, in particular adjacent to the zone with the electronic control means).
The double-sided adhesive tape used in the prior art luminous laminated roof needs removal of a protective film (liner). Furthermore, the surface is sticky prior to positioning, thus not allowing easy readjustment of the support if required. In addition, liner residue can cause blistering or clouding.
According to the invention, elements preassembled by gluing or adhesive contact are used outside the lamination line in order to simplify and speed up the production of the glazing.
The plastic strip is thus already attached (over the entire surface or in spots) to the device and/or the assembly sheet. In the latter case, the strip protrudes (larger than the device), the connection between the strip and the sheet can be used only for holding the device, and no additional connection of the back face and the plastic strip is required.
The plastic strip can be bonded to the surface of the glazing by lamination. Unlike double-sided adhesive tape, the free side of the thermoplastic tape is non-adhesive and ready for use. The plastic strip according to the invention allows precise positioning without loss of time on the production line.
Thus, the manufacturing process is optimized and more compatible with automation.
The (thermoplastic) plastic strip also allows degassing (escape of the microbubbles generated during the degassing cycle in the drying oven), the vacuum being used to remove the bubbles present before the temperature required to make the plastic (preferably thermoplastic) of the strip adhere to the contact surface is reached. Thus, the (thermoplastic) plastic strip may be more transparent than the double-sided adhesive tape.
Thus, the thermoplastic strip may provide better mechanical strength, especially when the support is large.
After placing the pre-assembled element and the laminated interlayer (in particular, if necessary, the assembled sheet), it is conceivable to bring the pre-assembled element into point-like adhesive contact with the contact face and/or to bring the laminated interlayer (in particular, if necessary, the assembled sheet) into point-like adhesive contact with the contact face in order to be held in place before it is placed under vacuum.
The (local) electrically controlled device may be partly laminated to the glazing, for example up to 50%, 40% or 30%, or even up to 20% or 10%. In addition, the (partial) (thermoplastic) plastic strip may be partially laminated to the glazing (e.g. up to 50%, 40% or 30%, or even up to 20% or 10%). The coverage of the strip may preferably be the same as or slightly greater than the coverage of the electrically controlled device.
The area of the laminated interlayer (assembled sheet, etc.) is (largely) higher than the area of the strip and may cover at least 70%, 80%, 90% or 95% of a glazing with an electrical control device. The laminated interlayer (assembly sheet, etc.) may be set back from the edge face of the first glass sheet (and/or the second glass sheet), in particular up to 2 mm. When the support (and the strip) does not protrude from the first or second glass sheet, it is preferred that the laminated interlayer surrounds the support (so that the interlayer is present between the support and the edge face of the closest laminated glazing).
Therefore, a thin plastic strip with an area smaller than the interlayer (smaller than the assembled sheet) is preferred in order to optimize cost and even better handling during the manufacturing process due to its thinness.
The plastic strap according to the invention is referred to herein as a back plastic strap, since it is connected to the back side.
When the contact surface is bare (facing the connecting element), the connecting element (and thus the plastic strip) is in direct adhesive contact with the contact surface.
When the contact surface is coated with a layer (single or multilayer), in particular a functional layer (masking layer, conductive layer, low emissivity layer, heating layer, etc.), facing the attachment element, the attachment element (and thus the plastic strip) is in indirect adhesive contact with the contact surface. Inorganic layers are preferred. Preferably it is a deposited layer, obtained for example by deposition by the liquid-phase route (screen printing, etc.), physical vapour deposition (cathodic sputtering) or even chemical deposition.
In particular, no lamination interlayer (PVB or the like) is preferably present between the free main face F' and the contact face. A special case is the interposition between the free main face F' and the contact face of another device, which itself can be pre-assembled or housed in the lamination interlayer, covered by the latter.
The shape of the plastic strip can be suitably adjusted, for simplicity using a rectangular, square, L-shaped, F-shaped, E-shaped or comb-shaped strip, in particular similar to the shape of the support.
The (thermoplastic) plastic strip may protrude from the edge face of the support in the region of the laminated glazing with the laminated interlayer, preferably at most 20cm, 10cm or 5cm, or even 1cm from the edge face of the support, in order to facilitate placement (non-folding, etc.), in particular if pre-assembly occurs between the back face and the plastic strip.
In the present invention, the expression "at most X, Y or Z" means "at most X, (even) at most Y and (even) at most Z".
According to one configuration, the plastic strip is transparent (and free from defects), the support is transparent (the electronic control system is optionally transparent or at least allows overall transparency), the pre-assembled element is located in a transparent zone of the first and/or second glass plate in a position between the first and second glass plates, and the transparent strip covers the functional zone at least on the side opposite to the functional zone.
In one configuration, the method comprises forming the pre-assembled element according to at least one of the following configurations (a) or b) or a) + b)):
a) assembling the connecting element with the support body to form a connecting surface FLIn adhesive contact with or bonded to the back surface, so that the joint surface FLAdhesive contact over the entire surface or spot-like adhesive contact by means of a series of spaced-apart spot-like adhesive contacts in spot-like adhesive contact with the back side or adhesive contact with the back side, for example via a series of spaced-apart spot-like adhesive regions over the entire surface or a plurality of surface connection faces FL or by means of an adhesive frame (adhesive tape or double-sided adhesive tape), for example at the periphery-forming a seal-or by means of an adhesive tape (adhesive bead or double-sided adhesive tape), for example two peripheral strips;
b) and/or assembling the joining element with the laminated interlayer such that the projecting zone ZD is adhesively contacted over the entire surface or adhesive contact spot by a series of spaced spots with the zone ZA or the joining surface is adhesively bonded to the zone ZA, in particular by a series of spot-like adhesive zones or the entire surface thereof;
this time double-sided tape can be used because the operation is outside the lamination line.
Without the addition of adhesive material, the adhesive contact is preferably achieved by softening the plastic strip, which is preferably a thermoplastic, which results in an adhesive contact between the faces.
Particularly advantageously, the adhesive contact is achieved by heating and optionally also by pressure, in particular by induction heating, by means of hot air, or by radiation (laser) or by using a solvent such as alcohol.
In particular and advantageously, the adhesive contact is a point contact and is achieved by local heating and optionally also by pressure, in particular by induction heating, by means of hot air, or by radiation (laser) or by using a solvent such as alcohol.
Each spot-shaped adhesive contact has, for example, a width of at most 15 mm.
Each spot-shaped adhesive contact has, for example, a width of at most 15 mm.
As heating means, in particular local heating means or means (and better applying pressure), a metal pen ("iron") with a flat end capable of letting through heat (and preferably with a non-stick coating (silicone, polytetrafluoroethylene, PTFE, elastomer, etc.), heating finger or fingers or a heat gun can be used.
The point-like adhesive contact can be realized in one operation for all contact points. A heating tool may be selected that allows different spot-like bonding points to be created in a single operation.
The local heating may allow to achieve a local adhesive contact not only between the tape and the backside facing support, but also between the device and the interlayer sheet.
The local heating may be achieved by applying heating means on the dorsal face side and/or the frontal face side. The back side is preferred.
During the pre-assembly operation with said connecting elements, the electric control means are for example on a first sheet of the laminated sandwich, the face of the first sheet, which is located on the opposite side of said connecting elements, and a second sheet of the laminated sandwich (in particular the assembly sheet) is located on the first sheet, the local heating causing a punctiform contact of the first sheet with the second sheet.
During a pre-assembly operation with the connecting element, the front face of the electric control device is located on the first sheet of the laminated sandwich, in particular on the assembly sheet, the localized heating causing the front face of the electric control device to come into point-like contact with the first sheet of the laminated sandwich.
In one configuration, the (thermoplastic) plastic strip and the lamination interlayer are in contact or spaced apart, for example at most 5mm or 1mm, prior to lamination, and after lamination (by creep) the (thermoplastic) plastic strip and the lamination interlayer are in continuous contact, leaving no space between the back face and the contact face.
Preferably, the tape is thermoplastic, based on or made of poly (vinyl butyral) (PVB), containing less than 15 wt.%, preferably less than 10 wt.%, even less than 5 wt.% of plasticizer, in particular free of plasticizer, in particular having a thickness e3 of at most 0.15mm, in particular 25 to 100 μm, 40 to 70 μm, even at most 50 μm. Furthermore, the lamination interlayer is based on poly (vinyl butyral) (PVB) -having a plasticizer, in particular having more than 15 wt% of conventional plasticizers-in particular having a thickness of at least 0.3mm, even at least 0.6 mm.
Preferably, the support is flexible, made of plastic, better transparent, preferably made of polyester, in particular polyethylene terephthalate, or of polyimide, in particular having a thickness of 25 to 150 μm, even 50 to 100 μm. More broadly, the support may be made of a plastic material, in particular a thermoplastic, polyethylene terephthalate PET, polyethylene naphthalate PEN, polyethylene PE, poly (methyl methacrylate) PMMA, polydimethylsiloxane PDMS, polyamide, polyimide, polyacrylate, polyester, polycarbonate, polysulfone, polyethersulfone, or thermoplastic polyurethane.
If one or more partial cuts are made in the support, the thermoplastic strip may be integral/complete or have partial cuts.
A glazing with an electrical control device may comprise one or more spaced apart further electrical control devices, each having a plastics strip or having a common plastics strip, for example along part or all of the edge of a laminated glazing.
When the support body has a curved L-shape or the like, the shape of the plastic strip can be adapted accordingly, or for the sake of simplicity a rectangular, square strip is used. For example, in such a construction with a rectangular strip and a first L-, F-or E-or comb-shaped support, the plastic strip can project significantly from the edge face of the first support in the direction of the nearest edge of the first glass pane.
The support may be sufficiently flexible (malleable) to accommodate the curvature of a curved laminated glazing.
The support body may be associated with a flat connector which extends to and even beyond the edge face of the pane. Flexible connectors, including plastics such as PEN or polyimide, which are capable of adapting to the curvature of the glazing are preferred. The width of the flat connector (dimension along the edge face) may be smaller than or equal to the dimension of the (diode) support, in particular along the edge face.
The (flexible) support may be local, e.g. less than 10% of the surface of the upper laminated glazing, in particular in a peripheral region of the (windscreen) laminated glazing.
After lamination, the preferably flexible support may comprise an external power supply portion extending to and from the edge face of the laminated glazing, even folded over the face F4 (or F1).
Thus, before lamination, a strip of (thermoplastic) plastic may be extended from the edge face of one of the first and second glass plates and folded over the face F4 or F1 by means of being pre-attached to the face F4 or F1, and then the tape is removed after lamination.
In another embodiment, before placing said pre-assembled element together with the connecting element, said laminated interlayer comprises a (coloured, wedge-shaped, acoustic multilayer, wired, PVB/PET/PVB composite assembly) sheet, called front sheet, which is optionally said assembled sheet, having a main face Fx, which is placed against the front face of the electrical control device, in particular the front face of the support (first with a discrete system as (opto) electronic element, and the main face Fx optionally comprising said area ZA., after lamination, bringing the front (in particular single) sheet (face Fx) into adhesive contact with the front face of the device, in particular the front face of the support (which can be bare or covered with an electrical circuit or the like).
When the laminate interlayer comprises a single sheet, the front sheet may be in adhesive contact with the other (major) of faces F2 or F3 and the contact face (major).
When the laminate interlayer comprises a second sheet on the side of face Fx (particularly an apertured sheet having a slot for receiving the device), the second (apertured) sheet may be in adhesive contact with the contact face (for the most part) and the front sheet may be in adhesive contact with the other (for the most part) of faces F2 or F3. The front sheet may have a blind slot in the region of the electrical control means which extends the slot of the second (apertured) sheet.
When the electronic control system is too thick but discrete (punctiform), it is possible to prepare holes on the front sheet dedicated to the electronic control system, for example as described above for the diodes in the above-mentioned prior art or more generally for other electronic control systems ((optical) electronic components, etc.). Thus, in a first configuration, the main face Fx of the front sheet comprises at least one through or blind hole, the width W1 of which is at most 20mm, 15mm, 10mm, 5mm or 2mm and even the length of which is at most 10mm, 5mm or 2mm, housing a so-called discrete electronic control system, in particular an (opto) electronic component such as a photodiode or an inorganic diode, wherein e '2>0.15mm (requiring the interlayer to be cut), in particular sub-mm, even at most 0.5mm, the width W'2 of which is at most 20mm, 10mm, 5mm or 2mm, the length of which is at most 10mm, 5mm or 2mm, and even e2<0.15mm and e3<0.15 mm. The front sheet is brought into adhesive contact with the front face of the support. In particular, the aperture is wider than the area of the electronic control system (optoelectronic device), preferably at most 0.5mm or even at most 0.1mm wide. Optionally, the hole is a through hole.
Naturally, the main face Fx of the front sheet may comprise as many holes as there are components on the support or holes common to a plurality of components adjacent on the support.
When the electrical control system is too thick but a surface system (large enough area), it is preferably accommodated in a through hole or blind hole in the laminated sandwich sheet. Thus, in a second configuration, before the pre-assembled element (before or after pre-assembly) and the connecting element, the laminated sandwich comprises an open-pored sheet (monolithic, composite sheet, etc.) comprising a hole (blind or through hole) which houses the electronic control system and all or part of the support (all or part between the glass plates, at least the functional zone, and all or part of the power supply zone between the glass plates, preferably different from the recess, i.e. from the peripheral hole through, and preferably surrounding all or part of the edge face of the device, the open-pored sheet having a main face Fx which is free and optionally comprises the region ZA (towards the contact face after placement) and optionally comprises the region Z' a, (thermoplastic) plastic strip facing the hole, having a difference in height H1 between the face Fx and the free face of the plastic strip, the difference is at most 0.3mm, 0.2mm or 0.15 mm.
In particular, the free face of the plastic strip is at most 0.3mm, 0.2mm or 0.15mm below being flush with said face, and at most 0.3mm, 0.2mm or 0.15mm being flush with or protruding (having an over thickness) from the face Fx.
In particular, the electrical control device emerges from the apertured plate (back or front face of the support) before lamination with the pre-assembled element comprising the connecting element, the electrical control device and the main face Fx being spaced apart by a non-zero height H2, the height H2 being greater than e2 (and less than e2+ e'2), H2 being at most 0.3mm, 0.2mm or 0.15mm, and the back face emerging from the apertured sheet. The method comprises positioning a further strip of plastic, preferably thermoplastic (even plastic, the same as said plastic strip on the back side), which forms a frame on all or part of the edge face of the support, which has a thickness Ex of at most 0.15mm and less than or equal to H2, and which abuts against the edge face of the support or is spaced from the support by at most 1/0.5mm, and faces the area of the apertured plate.
The additional plastic strip has a free main face F' opposite the connection face FC, the additional plastic strip optionally comprising a single strip or a plurality of stepped plastic strips, where Ex is the total thickness of the plastic strips
And, by means of a lamination step, bringing said free face of the additional plastic strip into adhesive contact with the contact face.
In particular, before placing said pre-assembled element between the first and second glass plates, the connection face FC can be brought into adhesive contact with the apertured sheet, this adhesive contact being carried out by means of the tools for pre-assembly already mentioned above (softening, localized heating, etc.). The holes or grooves are blind holes, for example in the first or second PVB.

a third set of six diodes 4 on the front face 30 of the third printed circuit board (called PCB 3), incorporated between the outer glass pane and the inner glass 1' of the laminated glazing, the diodes being positioned in a line in a transparent glass region in the region of the windscreen edge along the (right) side edge (in particular the passenger side), optionally in or near a peripheral masking region (opaque enamel or the like) of the outer glass pane or even in alternating regions of the outer and/or inner glass pane with masking regions (opaque layer, e.g. opaque enamel) and transparent regions (facing the diodes).
These diodes, in particular the diodes of the first component, may emit a red light which warns the driver when the preceding vehicle (or any other moving device or animal) is detected to be too close. When the front car is far enough away (to comply with the safety distance) the diode will be turned off.
These diodes, in particular the diodes of the second component, may emit a red light which warns the driver when the car (or any other mobile device or animal) detects too close on the left side of the car. The signal light may also change from one color (when the vehicle is at a more dangerous distance), such as orange or amber, to another color (when the vehicle is at a shorter and even more dangerous distance), such as red.
In these cases, a number of diodes are provided as required, for example in alternating rows with red and orange diodes, or in a row for each colour. It is also possible to have at least three signal levels (three colors).
The vehicle comprises at least one sensor (preferably one per group of diodes) to detect these dangerous situations (non-compliance with safe distances or otherwise) and at least one control unit for managing the diodes.
The diodes are not necessarily in a row, in particular parallel to the edge of the glazing. The PCB 3 with the diode 4 is for example in the lower quadrant on the driver side.
If necessary, the windscreen comprises a set of hardly visible metal wires, for example 50 μm metal wires, which are placed on a face, for example the face F3 side of the laminated interlayer (over its entire area), in the form of optionally straight lines.
The PCBs 3 are preferably transparent, since they are here in the transparent glass area.
Each board PCB 3 is glued with a thin and transparent (back side) thermoplastic strip, having a thickness e3 of at most 0.15mm and preferably less than 100 μm and being of the same size as the PCB, which is glued on the back side of the board (facing the side F2) and the entire surface of which is in adhesive contact with the side F2 (called contact side).
Before lamination, each board PCB 3 and the so-called "back" transparent thermoplastic strip form a pre-assembled element. The preparation of the pre-assembled element will be described in more detail below.
The windscreen also comprises two other surface-type electric control devices, here in the shape of rectangles 4',4", such as OLED screens, for example in the middle of the windscreen and along the lower and upper longitudinal edges. These screens are for example transparent and in the region of the transparent glass.
A thin transparent thermoplastic strip (called back strip), whose thickness e'3 is at most 0.15mm and better at most 100 μm and is the same as the size of the OLED, is bonded to the surface of the support of the OLED (this substrate is preferably flexible, in particular polyester, PET) and its entire surface is in adhesive contact with face F2, called contact face. The OLED screen and the back transparent thermoplastic strip form a pre-assembled element prior to lamination. The preparation of the pre-assembled element will be described in more detail below.
Each device 4,4 ″ and the back transparent thermoplastic strip form a pre-assembled element before lamination. The preparation of the pre-assembled element will be described in more detail below.
Touch buttons, whether light emitting or non-light emitting, may also be provided in the laminated glazing to control an OLED screen or other device, etc. The capacitive switch may be pre-assembled, for example with a plastic strip as previously described.
Alternatively, a light-emitting laminated roof with diodes and/or OLEDs, QLEDS or TFEL, for example providing ambient light, decorative light or reading light directed towards the face F4, can be produced in a similar manner.
On the front face, a collimating optical element may be used, preferably without a front plastic strip or a lamination interlayer between the collimating optical element and the glass contact face.
Fig. 1bis shows a further windscreen of a motor vehicle, which windscreen 1000 comprises the luminous signal in a variant of the first embodiment.
It differs from the windscreen in fig. 1 in the location of the more peripheral three boards PCB 3, which may be opaque (opaque supports and/or opaque conductive tracks). Face 12F 2 includes the entire mask frame, preferably made of black enamel, and face F414 (or face 13F 3) includes mask frame 72, preferably made of black enamel, with holes 70 aligned with diodes 4.
In this embodiment, the front or back thermoplastic assembled strips 5 may be transparent (colored, etc.) or opaque. The strips 5 are in adhesive contact with a mask layer 71.
In addition, the OLED screen 4 'at the bottom of the windshield is located in the enamel area and the holes 70 are aligned with the screen 4'.
Fig. 1 'is a front view of a windscreen of a motor vehicle on a road, the windscreen 1000' having an internal or even external luminous signal by means of diodes in a variant of the first embodiment.
It differs from fig. 1 in the location and type of signal.
The first set of diodes 4C on the board PCB 30C type support forms a triangle, if possible a central exclamation point. It forms a danger signal.
Second and third sets of diodes 4a and 4b, each set forming an arrow indicating when the turn indicator light (left or right, respectively) is activated, are on their PCB board type supports 30a and 30 b.
These turn indicator light repeaters are visible from the outside (external signal). The left turn signal may be moved or split into two as far to the left as possible (if the aperture is aligned with the diode in the masked area on face F2) and the right turn signal may be split into two as far to the right as possible (if the aperture is aligned with the diode in the masked area on face F2).
Each board PCB 30a, 30b and 30c is glued with a thin thermoplastic strip, having a thickness e3 of at most 0.15mm and being the same size as the PCB board, which strip is glued on the back face side of the board (facing face F2) and has its entire surface in adhesive contact with face F2, called the contact face.
Each board PCB 30a, 30b and 30c and the thermoplastic strip form a pre-assembled element prior to lamination.
If in the clear glass area, the board PCBs 30a, 30b and 30c and thin and clear thermoplastic strips are preferred. It is contemplated that they may be moved into the peripheral mask box in a manner similar to fig. 1 bis.
Furthermore, the OLED screen 4 "at the central upper peripheral position on the windscreen is located in an enamel area 72, which widens in the centre, and the hole 70 is aligned with the screen.
Fig. 1 "is a schematic front view (face F1 or face 12 side) of a rear window with an external luminescent signal 100" in one embodiment of the invention.
In the central area 13', a third stop lamp 101 is formed using, for example, six red diodes 4 on the PCB 3 along the top longitudinal edge.
In each side region 14', along the lateral edge in question, a turn indicator light 102 is formed using, for example, six diodes 4 emitting in yellow on the PCB 3, or a signal light 103 is formed using, for example, six diodes 4 on the board PCB 3 along the lower longitudinal edge in question.
Each PCB panel is glued with a thin thermoplastic strip, having a thickness e3 of at most 0.15mm and being the same size as the PCB, which is glued on the back face side of the panel (facing face F3) and the entire surface of which is in adhesive contact with face F3 (called the contact face).
Each board PCB 3 and the thermoplastic strip form a pre-assembled element before lamination.
If in the transparent glass area, a thin and transparent PCB 3 and thermoplastic strip are preferred. It is contemplated that they may be moved into the peripheral mask box in a manner similar to fig. 1 bis.
The rear window also comprises another surface electrical control device, here in the shape of a rectangle 4', for example an OLED, for example in the middle of the windscreen and along the lower longitudinal edge. The OLED is for example transparent and in the transparent glass region.
A thin transparent thermoplastic "back" strip, the thickness e'3 of which is at most 0.15mm and better at most 100 μm and is the same size as the OLED, is bonded on the surface of an OLED support (the substrate is preferably flexible, in particular polyester, PET) and the entire surface of which is in adhesive contact with face F2 (known as the contact face). The OLED and the back transparent thermoplastic strip are formed into a pre-assembled element prior to lamination. Prior to lamination, the device 4 and the back transparent thermoplastic strip form a pre-assembled element.
Alternatively, laminated glazings may be prepared in a similar manner, forming a (fixed or open) side glazing with an externally illuminated signal, such as a turn indicator light repeater, or such as an advertising, informational or decorative display.
FIG. 2 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a windshield having an internal luminescent signal 100 in a first embodiment of the invention, comprising a curved laminated glazing comprising:
a first glass plate 1, for example made of TSA glass and having a thickness of 2.1mm, forming an outer glass plate, preferably tinted, having a first and a second main face 11,12 and an edge face 10, respectively called face F1 and face F2;
a preferably transparent lamination interlayer 2, made of a polymeric material, here PVB, with a thickness e1 of sub-millimeter, and preferably in particular between 0.2mm and 1m, generally about 0.38mm, for example a PVB sheet (RC 41 from Solutia or Eastman) with a thickness of about 0.76mm, or as a variant, if necessary (three or four layers) acoustic PVB, for example with a thickness of about 0.81mm, the face FB of which on the side of the face F3 is optionally provided with a set of metal wires covering (substantially) the surface, in particular the surface facing the diode(s);
a second glass plate 1' forming an inner glass plate, for example made of TSA, or transparent or ultratransparent glass, having a thickness of 2.1mm or even 1.6mm or even less, having a third and fourth main face 13,14, respectively called face F3 and face F4, face F4 optionally coated with a functional layer (low-emissivity layer, etc.),
face F2 and face F3 are the inner faces 12,13 of the laminated glazing;
a set of inorganic electroluminescent diodes 4, which are surface mount devices (CMS or SMD) emitting in red, for example on a support such as a printed circuit board called "board PCB 3" with an edge face 34, the PCB + diode assembly having a total thickness et2 ≦ e1 and better e1-et2 of at most 0.5mm, preferably 0.1mm-0.2mm, the diodes having a sub-millimeter thickness e2 typically greater than 0.15mm, the board PCB 3 having a thickness e '2 of at most 0.15mm, for example 50 to 100 μm, a front face 30 facing the face F3 and a back face 30' facing the face F2 or the face 12, each diode having an emitting face emitting in the direction facing the internal glass 1', each diode having an edge face.
For each diode, the lamination sandwich has a region 21, which region 21 comprises an opening (here a via) surrounding and in contact with an edge face of the diode. Prior to lamination, vias were made in a single PVB sheet, with widths slightly larger at the sides of the diodes 4. The PVB can come into contact with the diode 4 without entering between the front face and the face F3 by creeping during lamination.
As a variant, PVB with blind holes is used, or even this sheet with through holes is left and the entire surface (for inserting other thicker elements for other functions, etc.) of the backsheet (between F3 and the perforated sheet, called front sheet) PVB or even PVB/functional PET/PVB is added (not shown). After lamination, the diode is now in the blind hole and the front face is preferably in contact with the bottom of the hole or spaced from the hole by at most 0.2mm or at most 0.1 mm.
The diode 4 (here with a single semiconductor chip) is square and has a width of about 5mm or less. The diode may be of the "chip on board" type or even very preferably a Surface Mounted Device (SMD), when a peripheral package is included (commonly known as "packaging").
Here, in the transparent glass area, the flexible PCB 3 will be chosen to be as thin as possible and preferably even most inconspicuous (minimum width or even transparent) possible, for example comprising a transparent film, such as PET, PEN or polyimide film, and, even for printed circuits, transparent connection tracks (instead of tracks made of copper, unless they are made sufficiently thin) may also be chosen. The PCB board may protrude from an edge face of the laminated glazing.
The laminated interlayer 2 is present between face F3 and the front face of PCB 3 (over the entire front face of the PCB except for the diodes), in a laminated glazing. The back side 30' is free of the lamination interlayer 22.
Before lamination, the board PCB 3 is glued to a thin thermoplastic strip 5, having a thickness e3 of at most 0.15mm, in particular 25 to 100 μm, 40 to 70 μm, even at most 50 μm, and being of the same size as the PCB board or projecting slightly from the edge face 34 (as shown), the front face 50 of which is glued to the back face 30 'of the board (facing face F3) and the entire surface of the back face 50' of which is in adhesive contact with face F212 (referred to as the contact face).
Each board PCB 3 and thermoplastic strip 5 form a pre-assembled element before lamination.
The thermoplastic tape is based on poly (vinyl butyral) (PVB) and contains less than 15 wt.%, preferably less than 10 wt.%, even better less than 5 wt.% of plasticizer, in particular no plasticizer. The lamination interlayer is made of conventional poly (vinyl butyral) (PVB).
In particular, the product "MOWITAL LP BF" from KURARAY corporation, having a thickness of e3, may be selected as desired for the PVB tape without the plasticizer.
As shown in fig. 2, each diode is an electronic component comprising at least one semiconductor chip 41 and is equipped with a polymer or ceramic peripheral packaging 42 (commonly known as "packaging") that encapsulates the edge face of the electronic component (and defines the edge face of the diode), which surrounds the semiconductor chip.
The package may correspond to the maximum thickness (height) e2 of the diode. The package is made of, for example, epoxy resin. The polymeric encapsulation shell may optionally shrink during lamination (the final thickness after lamination may be less than the initial thickness). The (polymer) encapsulating shell may be opaque.
The package (integral or made of two parts) may comprise a part forming the base 42 carrying the chip and a part forming the reflector, which enlarges the opening away from the base (higher than the chip) and contains a protective resin and/or a material with a color conversion function. The front face 40 may be defined as the surface of the material that covers the chip (either set back from or flush with the "front" surface of the reflector).
The diode may comprise a protective resin or a material with a color conversion function even right above the semiconductor chip. The semiconductor chip may be embedded in a material (resin, etc.).
Fig. 2 'is a schematic cross-sectional view of a light emitting laminated glazing using diodes in the embodiment variant of fig. 2, wherein collimating optics 8 are added, here a prismatic film 81 having its adjoining prisms on the side of the output face 80 and a back face 80' on the side of the front face of the diode 4, the diode being accommodated in the aperture 21 of the PVB, the film being held by lugs 82 on the front face of the support PCB 3. Fig. 2a is a top view of a collimating optical element. Which is here a prismatic film, having adjoining prisms 80 and edge faces 85. FIG. 2b is an overall view of a prismatic film having adjoining prisms 80.
Examples of collimating optics, such as fresnel lenses or prismatic films, are described in application WO2017203171 (e.g. fig. 3a and 2'a to 2' c). Examples of collimating optics, such as two crossed prism films or two-dimensional arrays, are described in application WO2017/203175 (e.g. fig. 2'a to 2' c and fig. 1'a to 1' z).
Figure 2bis is a schematic cross-sectional view of a light emitting laminated glazing 200a using diodes in a variation of the embodiment of figure 2.
It differs in that the plastic strip 5 is located on the masking enamel on the face F212 and the holes 72' aligned with the diodes are produced in the masking enamel 72 on the face F414.
For example, the front side is bonded to the PVB by adhesive dots 6' prior to lamination.
The invention has been described in connection with diodes, but the invention is applicable to other discrete electrically controlled devices, such as sensors (photodiodes, cameras, etc.).
Figure 3 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a laminated glazing 300 comprising (opto) electronics as a sensor in one embodiment of the invention.
Here, the support body 3 is bonded to the contact face 13 by means of a thermoplastic tape (as already described in the previous figures), such as thin and transparent PVB, the contact face 13 being the face F3.
In particular, the support extends beyond the PVB via portion 51 after the edge face and is folded by portion 52 at face F414, and the strip 5 is bonded to the edge face and face F4. A connector 53 is connected to the end of the portion 52.
Figure 4 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a light emitting laminated glazing 400 using diodes in a variation of the embodiment of figure 2.
It differs in that the support body 3 is L-shaped with a diode region 31 and a supply region 32, the supply region 32 having an extension 33 protruding from the edge face 10' of the pane 1', which extension 33 is connected to the electrical wires 9,9' and is partially covered by the enamel 7. The back plastic strips 5 (shown for illustration purposes) have the same shape and are therefore L-shaped. For example, PVB retracts from the edge face 10'.
Fig. 5 is a front view showing preassembly of an electrical control device 500 using a laminate interlayer and contact by spot bonding.
Fig. 5 shows a point-like adhesive contact of the front face 50 of the preferably transparent square or rectangular, locally thin back plastic strip 5 with the attachment face 20' of the back sheet PVB 2 (intended to be in contact with the contact face 12F 2 or the adhesive face F3 of the window pane (edge face 10 shown)).
The support body 3 of the diode 4 is rectangular and protrudes from the edge face 10. The front face of the plastic strip 5 abuts against the back face of the diode support and the plastic strip projects from the edge face 34.
The point-like adhesive contact is achieved by an array of point contacts 60 on either side of the diode region 31 between the PVB and the projecting strip 5. For this purpose, the PVB and/or plastic tapes are softened by local point heating or by using solvents such as alcohols.
Fig. 6 is a front view showing the pre-assembly of the electrical control device 600 using a laminated interlayer and contact by spot bonding.
The preassembly differs from fig. 5 in that the support body 3 is L-shaped, exactly as the back plastic strip 5, which is preferably thin and transparent.
Fig. 7 is a front view showing the pre-assembly of the electrical control device 700 using plastic strips and contact by spot-bonding.
This preassembly differs from fig. 6 in that the strip 5 does not project from the edge face 34.
The point-like adhesive contact is achieved between the back side 30' of the PCB 3 and the strip 5 and on the side opposite the supply region by a series of contact points 60 on either side of the diode region 31 opposite the diode region 31. To achieve this, the plastic strip 5 is softened by spot-localized heating.
Fig. 7a is a front view showing the pre-assembly of the electric control device 700a using the plastic strip 5 and contacting by spot-like gluing. This preassembly differs from that of figure 7 in that the support is T-shaped, the partial thin plastic strip 5 having the same T-shape.
Fig. 7b is a front view showing the pre-assembly of the electrical control device 700b using plastic strips and contacting by spot-bonding.
This preassembly differs from that of figure 7 in that the support is U-shaped, thus having two extensions projecting from the panes 33,33', and the partially thin plastic strip 5 has the same U-shape.
Fig. 8 is a cross-sectional view of a preassembly 800 of a device, a partial back plastic strip, and a laminate interlayer prior to being placed between a glass sheet and a laminate.
The front face 50 of the thin and transparent back plastic strip 5 is brought into point-like adhesive contact with the back face 30' of the support for the diodes 3 through a series of contact points 6 produced by local heating 7.
The front face 30 'of the support for the diodes is in point-like adhesive contact with the face 20' of the PVB 2, said PVB 2 having individual through holes 21 for accommodating the diodes 4.
As a variant, it is blind-hole, and the PVB can even be a PCB/PET/PVB assembly.
Figure 8 'is a cross-sectional view of the pre-assembly 800800' of the electrical control device, the back plastic strip and the laminated interlayer before being placed between the glass sheets and the laminate.
The front face 50 of the thin transparent back plastic strip 5 is brought into point-like adhesive contact with the face 20' of the PVB 2 (called the adhesive face) by a series of contact points 60a produced by local heating.
The front face 50 of the thin and transparent back plastic strip 5 is brought into point-like adhesive contact with the back face 30' of the support 3 for diodes, optionally through a series of contact points 6 produced by local heating.
Optionally, the front face 30 of the support for the diodes is in point-adhesive contact with the face 20 'of the PVB 2 through a series of contact points 6' produced by local heating, said PVB 2 being provided with individual through holes housing the diodes 4.
Fig. 9a shows a front view of the F1 side of a laminated glazing with an electrical control device 900, for example a surface electrical control device, for example an OLED for a light function (optionally forming a pictogram) or an OLED screen. Figure 9b shows a cross-section of such a glazing.
It is for example a windscreen with pictographic shaped OLEDs, or an OLED screen 4 or a roof with OLEDs. This may be the glazing of a building.
The luminescent laminated glazing is curved, comprising:
a first glass plate 1, for example made of TSA glass and having a thickness of 2.1mm, forming an outer glass plate, preferably tinted, having a first and a second main face 11,12 and an edge face 1, respectively called face F1 and face F2, face F2 being optionally coated with functional layers (mask layer, etc.);
a second glass plate 1' forming an inner glass plate, for example made of TSA (or transparent or ultratransparent) glass and having a thickness of 2.1mm or even 1.6mm or even less, having a third and fourth main face 13,14 respectively, called face F3 and face F4, face F4 optionally coated with a functional layer (low emissivity layer, etc.) and/or face F3 optionally coated with a functional layer (mask layer, heating layer, low emissivity layer, etc.);
between F2 and F3, a laminated interlayer 2 made of polymeric material, here made of PVB, preferably transparent, having a thickness e1 of sub-millimeter, preferably in particular between 0.2mm and 1m, generally about 0.38mm, formed for example by a solid first sheet 2a and a second sheet 2b of perforated PVB provided with grooves 25 on the first sheet, and the first sheet 2a is in adhesive contact with the face 13F 3 after lamination and the second sheet 2b of perforated PVB is in adhesive contact with the face 123F 2 and with the first sheet after lamination;
face F2 and face F3 are the inner faces 12,13 of the laminated glazing;
the OLED4 comprises a support 3 and a lighting system housed in the groove 25 on the front side, with a thickness e2+ e'2 smaller than the thickness of the apertured plate 2 b;
a thermoplastic tape, in particular PVB without plasticizer, having a thickness e3 of at most 0.3mm and the same size as the OLED, this tape being bonded to the OLED (on the support side or on the front face of the lighting system), the entire surface of the back face of the tape being in bonding contact with the face F212.
The thermoplastic tape is based on poly (vinyl butyral) (PVB) and contains less than 15 wt.%, preferably less than 10 wt.%, even better less than 5 wt.% of plasticizer, in particular no plasticizer. In particular, the product "MOWITAL LP BF" from KURARAY company, having a thickness e3, may be selected as desired for a PVB tape that does not contain a plasticizer.
The lamination interlayer is made of conventional poly (vinyl butyral) (PVB). It may be acoustic, wedge-shaped (for heads-up displays), PVB/functional PET/PVB composite. The entire sheet may be, inter alia, acoustic, wedge-shaped (for heads-up displays), PVB/functional PET/PVB composite. The apertured sheet may be particularly coloured. As a variant, a single PVB with blind holes is used.
Prior to lamination (and before being placed between the two glass plates), the plastic strip 5 is assembled with the OLEDs 4 by local heating, resulting in a point-like adhesive contact, or by adhesion (adhesive or double-sided tape), and optionally the OLEDs 4 are assembled with the entire sheet 2a, for example by local heating.
Here, the OLED4 emits in the direction of the plane F4 (internal light), and the OLED emits through the support of the OLED 3 (bottom-emitting). The plastic strip 5 is then on the front side of the OLED, on the lighting system (with or without polymer encapsulation).
Here, the OLED4 emits in the direction of the face F4 (internal light), and the OLED is top-emitting (english "top emitting"). The plastic strip is now on the back side of the support 3 and thus opposite the lighting system (with or without a polymer encapsulation).
Figure 9c shows a front view of the F1 side of a laminated glazing with an electrically controlled device, for example a surface device such as an OLED or active matrix OLED screen (AMOLED) for light function (optionally forming a pictogram). Figure 9d shows a cross-section of such a glazing.
The glazing 900' differs from the glazing of figure 9 in that:
light is emitted on the face F111 side, for example for the luminous signals of the rear window, side windows or even the windshield (turn indicator light repeater, etc.);
and the OLED4 is exposed from the aperture plate 2b on the F212 side.
Therefore, in order to compensate for the difference in thickness H between the PVB 2b and the OLED on the F2 side, a PVB frame 5a made of plastic material identical to the plastic strip 5 surrounds the periphery of the OLED.
If H is large (e.g., at least 0.15mm), multiple stepped plastic frame strips may be used.
As a variant, if H <0.15mm, the plastic strip 5 is chosen so as to project above the PVB and be preassembled with the PVB 2b, for example by local heating.
As a variant, a single PVB with blind holes is used.
The lamination interlayer is made of conventional poly (vinyl butyral) (PVB). It can be acoustic, wedge-shaped (for head-up displays), PVB/functional PET/PVB composite. The entire sheet may be, inter alia, a pigmented, acoustic, wedge-shaped (for head-up displays), PVB/functional PET/PVB composite. The apertured sheet may be particularly coloured.
Figure 10 is a cross-sectional view of a pre-assembly 900 of electrically controlled devices, plastic strips and laminated interlayers, prior to placement between a glass sheet and a laminate, to form, for example, the glazing 900 of figure 9 d.
The front face 50 of the thin and transparent plastic strip 5 is in point-like adhesive contact with the back face 30' of the support of the diode 3 through a series of contact points 60 produced by local heating 7 (causing softening) and adhesion.
The front face 30 of the OLED is optionally brought into point-wise adhesive contact with face 20 of the solid PVB sheet 2a by a series of contact points 60b created by the same localized heating 7.
The front face 50a of the plastic frame 5a (similar to the material of the plastic strip 5) is brought into adhesive contact with the face of the solid PVB sheet 2a by a series of contact points 60a created by the localized heating 7.
Next, the preassembled components are placed between two glass plates, the free faces of the two sheets 2a and 2b are in adhesive contact with the faces F2 and F3 after lamination, and the free faces of the plastic strips 5,5a are in adhesive contact with one of the faces F2 or F3 (bare or coated with a layer) as required after lamination.
Figure 10 'is a cross-sectional view of a pre-assembly 900' of electrical control devices, plastic strips and laminate interlayer prior to being placed between a glass sheet and a laminate (to form a variation of glazing 900 of figure 9d, for example).
Two plastic strips are preassembled, one of which, called the back strip 5, is located on the side of the back face of the support and the other, called the front strip 5', is located on the side of the front face of the device 4(OLED, etc.) and projects above the (PVB, composite PVB) laminated interlayer sheet, which is provided with a groove housing the electronic control system 4.
The front face of the back plastic strip 5 is optionally brought into punctiform adhesive contact with the back face 30' of the diode support 3 by creating a series of punctiform contacts 60b by local heating 7 (causing softening) and adhesion.
The front face of the back plastic strip 5 is brought into spot adhesive contact with the face 20 of the PVB 2b by a series of spot adhesive contacts 60a produced by local heating 7 (causing softening) and adhesion.
The front face 50' of the front plastic strip 5' is brought into punctiform adhesive contact with the other face 20' of the PVB 2b by a series of punctiform adhesive contacts 60 "caused by the local heating 7 (causing softening) and adhesion. The same heating on the face 20 side may suffice on the face 20' side.
Next, the preassembled elements are placed between the two glass plates, after lamination, the faces 20' and 20' are in adhesive contact with the faces F2 and F3, and also for the free faces of the plastic strips 5,5 '.
