The flooded evaporator is a main component of the flooded air-conditioning unit. When the flooded water chiller operates, a part of refrigerant oil in the compressor enters the condenser along with high-temperature and high-pressure refrigerant gas and is mixed in the condensed liquid refrigerant, and the liquid refrigerant enters the flooded evaporator after being throttled and depressurized by the throttle mechanism. Because of the characteristics of the flooded evaporator structure, the flow rate of the refrigerant gas in the shell side is very low, and the refrigerant oil entering the shell side cannot be brought back to the compressor by the refrigerant gas returning to the compressor at a certain flow rate like a dry evaporator, a set of evaporator oil return device is needed to be added, and the refrigerant oil enriched in the upper layer of the liquid refrigerant in the shell side of the evaporator is returned to the compressor through the set of device.
So for a flooded evaporator, whether the refrigerant oil entering the evaporator can return to the compressor smoothly is critical to the proper operation of the overall system, and is mainly determined by the control of the refrigerant level and the position of the oil return. However, in a refrigeration or heat pump system operation, the evaporator level will float due to load changes, and the current oil return port arrangement is fixed, which results in sometimes a compressor loss of oil and a shutdown due to the fact that the oil return port cannot suck the frozen oil.
