本发明涉及一种显示设备,特别是涉及一种包括偏光件的显示设备。
背景技术
近来显示设备因为具有可移植性、低功耗、低辐射的优点而被广泛地使用于各种信息产品中,例如桌面计算机、笔记本电脑、智能型手机、车用显示以及头戴式显示。
传统上为了提供不同的色光给不同像素,因此在显示设备中设置彩色滤光层。彩色滤光层可允许具有预定波长范围的特定色光穿过个别像素,并吸收该预定波长范围以外的色光,藉此显示出彩色的影像。然而,彩色滤光层对于光线的吸收降低了光线利用效率,并且具有彩色滤光层的显示设备还具有色彩饱和度的问题。
发明内容
本发明的目的之一在于提供一种显示设备,其具有较良好的光线使用效率。
本发明提供一显示设备,包括一第一基板、一第二基板、多个像素、一偏光件、以及一密封件。多个像素设置于第一基板与第二基板之间。偏光件设置于多个像素与第二基板之间,其中偏光件定义出一第一区域。密封件设置于第一基板与第二基板之间,其中密封件定义出一第二区域。第一区域位于第二区域内。

请参考图1与图2。图1所示为本发明第一实施例的显示设备的剖视示意图,图2为图1所示显示设备的俯视示意图,其中为了清楚示意,图2省略了某些元件。在本发明的第一实施例中,显示设备100包括一第一基板S1、一第二基板S2、多个像素PX、一偏光件PM以及一密封件SM。第二基板S2与第一基板S1相对设置,且第二基板S2与第一基板S1实质上彼此平行设置,但不限于此。第一基板S1与第二基板S2可分别为一硬质基板(例如玻璃基板、石英基板或是蓝宝石基板)或一软质可挠式基板(例如聚酰亚胺(polyimide,PI)基板、聚碳酸(polycarbonate,PC)基板或是聚对苯二甲酸乙二酯(polyethylene terephthalate,PET)基板等塑料基板),但不限于此。多个像素PX(或子像素)设置于第一基板S1与第二基板S2之间。在本实施例中,一电路阵列层102形成于第一基板S1上,电路阵列层102具有像素PX且被配置为一阵列。像素PX表示电路阵列层102中分别具有操作元件的画面显示单元。举例来说,一个像素PX可包括电路阵列层102内的一数据线的一部分、一扫描线的一部分、一开关元件(例如一薄膜晶体管)、一像素电极以及一电容,但不限于此。换句话说,像素PX的配置在第一基板S1上,像素PX阵列的最外侧边缘定义出显示设备100的显示区,而显示区之外的部分定义为周边区。在本实施例中,周边区环绕显示区,但不以此为限。在一些实施例中,周边区仅位于显示区的一侧或位于显示区的数个侧边外。再者,在一些实施例中,电路阵列层102还可包括一个或多个周边电路PC,设置于周边区内且设置于多个像素PX与密封件SM之间,并与该多个像素PX电性连接以驱动该多个像素PX。举例来说,周边电路PC可包括(但不限于)周边线路或周边导线、驱动元件、连接结构以及共享导线。在本实施例中,一第一绝缘层(first insulating layer,或称为第一保护层)PL1设置于第一基板S1上并覆盖电路阵列层102,用以保护多个像素PX与周边电路PC。第一绝缘层PL1可以是包括有机材料(例如过甲酸(performic acid,PFA))或无机材料(例如氧化硅(SiOx)或氮化硅(SiNx))的一绝缘层,或是可包括一复合堆栈结构,但不限于此。
密封件SM设置于第一基板S1与第二基板S2之间,用以结合第一基板S1与第二基板S2以形成一面板单元。密封层SM的材料可包括环氧树脂(epoxy)、合成树脂(resin)、压克力(acryl)、玻璃料(frit)或金属,但不限于此。偏光件PM设置在第一基板S1与第二基板S2之间,可选择设置于第一基板S1或第二基板S2上。偏光件PM可为一面板内偏光片(inner-cell-polarizer),也就是说偏光件PM可为内嵌式偏光片(inner polarizer)。在一实施例中,偏光件PM可包括聚乙烯醇(polyvinyl alcohol,PVA)材料。举例来说,偏光件PM可为贴附于第二基板S2上的聚乙烯醇膜。在另一实施例中,偏光件PM可包括金属线栅偏光片(wiregrid polarizer,WGP)或其他种类的面板内嵌式偏光片,其中金属线栅偏光片可包括铝(Al)、钛(Ti)、铜(Cu)、上述的任意组合或是任何其他适合的材料。在本实施例中,图2中偏光件PM的面积(也就是占据面积)小于密封件SM外边缘所围绕圈住的区域面积。换句话说,偏光件PM的外边缘定义出一第一区域A1,密封件SM的外边缘定义出一第二区域A2,第一区域A1小于第二区域A2,且偏光件PM的第一区域A1位于被密封件SM所围绕圈住的第二区域A2内。偏光件PM位于密封件SM内。另外,图1表示显示设备100沿着任何水平方向的剖视图,且图1绘示出了第一区域A1的宽度与第二区域A2的宽度的相对关系。如图1所示,在一剖面上,偏光件PM定义出第一区域A1在该剖面上的一第一宽度W1,密封件SM的外边缘定义出第二区域A2在该剖面上的一第二宽度W2,第一宽度W1小于第二度W2,且第一宽度W1位于第二宽度W2内。第一宽度W1与第二宽度W2的相对关系及位置也表示出第一区域A1位在第二区域A2内。再者,如图1与图2所示,偏光件PM被密封件SM所环绕,且彼此相间隔。
另一方面,偏光件PM的面积大于或等于显示区的面积(也就是像素PX阵列所占据的区域)。显示区所占据的区域位于偏光件PM占据的区域内,或是与偏光件PM的区域相合,以达成有效偏光的效果。再者,在该剖面上,多个像素PX定义出一第三宽度W3。第三宽度W3小于或等于第一宽度W1,且第三宽度W3位于第一宽度W1内或是与第一宽度W1相合。第三宽度W3与第一宽度W1的相对关系及位置表示多个像素PX构成的第三区域A3(如图2所示)小于或等于第一区域A1,且第三区域A3位于第一区域A1内或是与第一区域A1相合,其中第三区域A3可被视为显示设备100的显示区。在本实施例中,第一宽度W1大于第三宽度W3,并且第一宽度W1(可视为表示第一区域A1)由第三宽度W3(可视为表示第三区域A3)邻近于第一宽度W1的边缘凸出2.5毫米(millimeter)至5毫米。换句话说,第一宽度W1的边缘与第三宽度W3的边缘之间具有一间隔D1,其中间隔D1的范围为2.5毫米至5毫米。这种设计提供偏光件PM在宽度和/或长度上5毫米至10毫米的组装容许误差(assembling tolerance),使得偏光件PM可覆盖多个像素PX。另外,本实施例的偏光件PM可部分重迭于周边电路PC。
显示设备100可选择性地包括一光源LS与一光转换层104,光源LS设置在第一基板S1相反于第二基板S2的一侧,也就是以使用者观点而言,光源LS位于显示设备100的背侧。在本实施例中,光源LS发出光线的主要波段小于或等于490纳米的光线,但不限于此。主要波段是对应光线光谱中的高强度集中区的一波长段(波长范围)。举例来说,光源LS可发出蓝光。在一些实施例中,光源LS可发出紫外光(ultraviolet,UV)。光转换层104设置在偏光件PM与第二基板S2之间。光转换层104包括光转换材料,可将光源LS所发出的光线的光谱转换为不同的光谱,以形成不同种的色光。光转换层104可包括多个转换单元CU,彼此之间藉由一遮光部BM而彼此相隔开以避免混色。遮光部BM可包括任何可以阻挡、吸收、折射、散射或反射光线的材料,例如金属材料、黑色无机材料、黑色有机材料或光阻材料。在本实施例中,第二绝缘层PL2设置于第二基板S2的表面上并覆盖光转换层104,用以保护光转换层104。第二绝缘层PL2的材料可以为上述第一绝缘层PL1的材料的其中一种,在此不再赘述。
在本实施例中,转换单元CU被区分为(但不限于)三种类型,且当来自光源LS的光线进入光转换层104时此三种类型可各自发出具有不同光谱的不同色光。不同类型的转换单元CU分别包括不同光转换材料。举例来说,转换单元CU的光转换材料可包括量子点材料。在标记为「R」的转换单元CU中,量子点材料可将具有较低主要波段光谱的光线转换为具有较高主要波段的另一光谱,该较高主要波段的范围为580纳米至780纳米,可以被视为红光。在标记为「G」的转换单元CU中,量子点材料可将具有较低主要波段的光谱的光线转换为具有较高主要波段的另一光谱,该较高主要波段的范围为490纳米至575纳米,可以被视为绿光。在标记为「B」的转换单元CU中,当光源LS发出的光线为蓝光时,转换单元CU可具有蓝光量子点材料或是可具有不含有量子点的透明材料。然而,在一些实施例中,当光源LS是发出紫外光时,标记为「B」的转换单元CU可包括能够将紫外光光谱转换为具有较高主要波段的另一光谱的量子点材料,该较高主要波段的范围为380纳米至490纳米,可以被视为蓝光。本领域的技术人员应理解上述转换单元CU以及转换光的颜色的种类数量仅为示例,并不意在限制本发明。
请参考图3A与图3B,图3A与图3B所示为本发明光转换材料的示意图。如图3A所示,本实施例的光转换材料的量子点QD可由一外壳QD2与设置于其内的一内核QD1所组成。内核QD1主要决定转换光线的颜色,而外壳QD2提供内核QD1保护的效果。举例来说,外壳QD2可改善内核QD1因环境变异与光线或氧侵害所造成的破坏和/或分解。另一方面,外壳QD2可减少表面缺陷并提供光路径。在一些实施例中,量子点QD的材料可以由II-VI族、IV-VI族以及III-V族半导体材料所组成。例如,内核QD1的材料可包括选自硒化镉(CdSe)、硫化镉(CdS)、碲化镉(CdTe)、硫化锌(ZnS)、硒化锌(ZnSe)、碲化锌(ZnTe)、硒碲化镉(CdSeTe)、硫化镉锌(CdZnS)、硒硫化镉(CdSeS)、硒化铅(PbSe)、硫化铅(PbS)、碲化铅(PbTe)、硫化银铟锌(AgInZnS)、硫化汞(HgS)、硒化汞(HgSe)、碲化汞(HgTe)、氮化镓(GaN)、磷化镓(GaP)、砷化镓(GaAs)、磷化铟(InP)、磷化铟锌(InZnP)、磷化铟镓(InGaP)、氮化铟镓(InGaN)、砷化铟(InAs)、以及氧化锌(ZnΟ)的至少一种化合物,而外壳QD2的材料可包括选自硫化镉(CdS)、硒化镉(CdSe)、碲化镉(CdTe)、氧化镉(CdO)、硫化锌(ZnS)、硒化锌(ZnSe)、碲化锌(ZnTe)、氧化锌(ZnΟ)、磷化铟(InP)、硫化铟(InS)、磷化镓(GaP)、氮化镓(GaN)、氧化镓(GaO)、磷化铟锌(InZnP)、磷化铟镓(InGaP)、氮化铟镓(InGaN)、锌化铟-硒化镉(InZn-CdSe)、硫化铅(PbS)、氧化钛(TiO)、硒化锶(SrSe)、以及硒化汞(HgSe)的至少一种化合物,但不限于此。作为一示范例,内核QD1/外壳QD2的材料可以为硫化镉/硫化锌(CdS/Zns)、硒化镉/硫化锌(CdSe/ZnS)、硒化镉/硫化镉(CdSe/CdS)以及砷化铟/硒化镉(InAs/CdSe)中的一种或多种,但不限于此。
请参考图1,显示设备100可选择性地包括光调变层LM与偏光膜PF。光调变层LM设置于第一基板S1与第二基板S2之间。在本实施例中,光调变层LM设置在偏光件PM与多个像素PX之间,并且被密封件SM所环绕。光调变层LM可调整穿透光调变层LM并且进入偏光件PM的光线量。举例来说,光调变层LM为液晶层,包括液晶分子,但不限于此。偏光膜PF设置于第一基板S1相反于第二基板S2的一侧,并位于光源LS与偏光件PM之间。偏光膜PF可包括聚乙烯醇(PVA)层或任何其他合适的材料。显示设备100还可选择性地包括一共享电极层COM,设置于偏光件PM与第二基板S2之间,其中当显示设备100在运作时,共享电极层COM会被施加一共享电压。共享电极层COM可包括透明导电材料,例如氧化铟锡(ITO)。在一实施例中,偏光件PM可为贴附于共享电极层COM表面上的一偏光膜。
根据本发明,显示设备100具有内嵌式偏光片结构,其中偏光件PM设置在第一基板S1与第二基板S2之间,且偏光件PM位于被密封件SM所封闭的区域(或空间)内。偏光件PM所占据面积小于第二基板S2的占据面积,偏光件PM的第一区域A1位于第二基板S2的第二区域A2内,由偏光件PM所定义出的第一宽度W1小于由密封件SM的外边缘所定义出的第二宽度W2,且偏光件PM所定义出的第一宽度W1位于密封件SM的外边缘所定义出的第二宽度W2内。此外,本实施例中偏光件PM与密封件SM彼此相间隔。密封件的顶端直接接触于第二基板S2的下表面或直接接触于形成在第二基板S2下表面的膜层。密封件SM的底端也直接接触于第一基板S1的顶表面或是直接接触于形成在第一基板S1上表面的膜层。藉此,能够提升密封件SM的密封效果。
本发明的显示设备并不限于以上所述的实施例,且可以具有如下所述的其他实施例或变化实施例。在不脱离本发明的精神下,不同实施例中的技术特征可以进行替换、重组、混合以完成其他实施例。为了简单比较实施例和变化实施例之间的差异,后续将描述不同实施例或变化实施例中的不同之处,而相同部分的特征将不再赘述。
请参考图4,图4所示为本发明第二实施例的显示设备的剖视示意图。本实施例与第一实施例之间的主要差别在于偏光件PM与共享电极层COM的位置互相交换并且偏光件PM具有较大的面积或较大的宽度,因此偏光件PM的外边缘向外延伸至密封件SM。偏光件PM的至少一部分接触于密封件SM。尽管如此,偏光件PM的面积仍小于或等于被密封件SM外边缘所围绕圈住的面积。第一宽度W1仍然在第二宽度W2之内,且密封件SM的顶端与底部分别直接接触于第二基板S2与第一基板S1或是形成在第二基板S2与第一基板S1表面的膜层。再者,在本实施例中,偏光件PM包括金属线栅内嵌式偏光片,其是在形成共享电极层COM之前先被形成于第二基板S2上。然而,在其他实施例中,偏光件PM可包括聚乙烯醇材料或是其他具有偏光功能的材料。
请参考图5,图5所示为本发明第三实施例的显示设备的剖视示意图。为了强调本实施例与前述实施例之间的差别,某些元件(例如绝缘层、光调变层与周边电路)在图5以及以下实施例中的图式中被省略。如图5所示,本实施例与第二实施例的主要差别在于密封件SM部分重迭于偏光件PM。偏光件PM的侧边缘凸出于密封件SM内并且终止于密封件SM内。在此情况中,密封件SM靠外侧的顶端仍然直接接触于第二基板S2或是形成于第二基板S2上的膜层,且密封件SM靠外侧的底端仍然直接接触于第一基板S1或是形成于第一基板S1上的膜层。换句话说,第一宽度W1仍然在第二宽度W2之内,且由偏光件PM所定义出的区域仍然位于由密封件SM外边缘所定义出的区域内。
请参考图6,图6所示为本发明第四实施例的显示设备的剖视示意图。本实施例与第一实施例的主要差别在于偏光件PM包括一偏光层PM1与一保护层PM2。偏光层PM1可例如由金属线栅偏光片材料或聚乙烯醇材料所形成。保护层PM2设置于偏光层PM1与多个像素PX之间,并且覆盖偏光层PM1的表面,用以保护偏光层PM1。保护层PM2可包括氧化硅材料或氮化硅材料,但不限于此。
请参考图7与图8,图7所示为本发明第五实施例的显示设备的剖视示意图,图8为图7所示显示设备的俯视示意图。图7中的某些元件在图8中被省略,然而图7绘示了扫描线SL与数据线DL,用以大略表示出像素PX的配置。本实施例与第一实施例之间的差别之一在于显示设备100还包括一共享线CL,形成于第一基板S1的表面上并位于密封件SM与偏光件PM之间。共享线CL设置于第一基板S1的周边区内,周边区位于密封件SM与显示区之间。共享线CL可包括导电金属材料,导电金属氧化物材料或其他任何适合的导电材料。根据本发明,共享线CL被密封件SM所环绕,以避免金属侵蚀(metal corrision)。共享线CL还包括多个共享线接触件CL1,电连接于形成在第二基板S21表面上的共享电极。再者,一绝缘层PL可选择性地覆盖光转换层104的表面,且偏光件PM透过一黏着层AH贴附于光转换层104或是绝缘层PL的表面上。换句话说,黏着层AH设置于偏光件PM与第二基板S2之间,用以结合偏光件PM与第二基板S2。
请参考图9,图9所示为本发明第六实施例的显示设备的剖视示意图。图9中的显示设备100与前述实施例的差异在于偏光件的结构。在本实施例中,多功能单元MU包括具有光转换功能与偏光功能的多个偏光转换体,其取代了前述实施例中的偏光件与光转换单元。偏光转换体的材料例如包括量子棒(quantum rod,QR)材料。请参考图3B,量子棒QR可具有椭圆形的外壳QR2,包覆内核QR1。因为外壳QR2具有一长轴,其可以提供偏光功能,能滤出具有不同偏光方向的光线。前述量子点QD的材料可以用作内核QR1与外壳QR2的材料。不同材料与尺寸或直径的量子棒材料可将来自光源LS的光线转换为不同颜色的光线,例如红光、绿光与更多的蓝光。藉此,多功能单元MU所包含的量子棒QR可以转换光线的颜色,并且还可作为偏光片,透过光线偏光方向来滤出光线。因此,本实施例中的多功能单元MU取代前述实施例中的光转换层104,显示设备100的总厚度能够被减少。再者,多功能单元MU重迭于多个像素PX。
请参考图10,图10所示为本发明第七实施例的显示设备的剖视示意图。图10中的显示设备100与第六实施例的差异在于密封件SM部分重迭于多功能单元MU,多功能单元MU的边界边缘凸出于密封件SM内并且终止于密封件SM内。然而,在第六实施例与第七实施例中,由多功能单元MU所定义出的总第一宽度W1都仍然在密封件SM所定义出的第二宽度W2内。
根据本发明,偏光件被密封件所环绕,并且位于由密封件所定义的区域内。在一些实施例中,偏光件与密封件彼此相间隔。在一些其他实施例中,偏光件部分重迭于密封件。藉此,设置于第一基板与第二基板之间的密封件不会被偏光件阻挡,并且会连接第一基板与第二基板。在此设计下,因为密封件可以直接接触于第一基板(或形成在第一基板上的膜层)与第二基板(或形成在第一基板上的膜层),因此密封件的密封效果与黏着效果可被提升。另外,本发明的光转换层或偏光件可取代传统彩色滤光层,其中光转换层或是偏光件中的光转换材料可包括量子点材料和/或量子棒材料。量子点材料与量子棒材料可直接将具有某一波长范围的光线转换为具有另一波长范围的光线,相比于传统彩色滤光层滤出进入彩色滤光层的光线中约三分之二的量,本发明可改善亮度与发光效率。藉此,可改善光饱和度。此外,当多功能单元包括具有光转换功能与偏光功能的量子棒时,显示设备可以更加薄化。
以上该仅为本发明的实施例而已,并不用于限制本发明,对于本领域的技术人员来说,本发明可以有各种更改和变化。凡在本发明的精神和原则之内,所作的任何修改、等同替换、改进等,均应包含在本发明的保护范围之内。
Claims (20)
1.一种显示设备,其特征在于,包括:
一第一基板;
一第二基板,与该第一基板相对设置;
多个像素,设置于该第一基板与该第二基板之间;
一偏光件,设置于该多个像素与该第二基板之间,其中该偏光件定义出一第一区域;以及
一密封件,设置于该第一基板与该第二基板之间,其中该密封件定义出一第二区域;
其中,该第一区域位于该第二区域内。
2.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,该多个像素定义出一第三区域,且该第三区域位于该第一区域内。
3.根据权利要求2所述的显示设备,其特征在于,该第三区域的一边缘邻近于该第一区域的一边缘,且该第一区域的该边缘凸出于该第三区域的该边缘并与该第三区域的该边缘具有一间隔,该间隔的范围为2.5毫米至5毫米。
4.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,该第一区域小于该第一基板的面积或是小于该第二基板的面积。
5.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,该偏光件重迭于该多个像素。
6.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,还包括一光转换层,设置于该偏光件与该第二基板之间。
7.根据权利要求6所述的显示设备,其特征在于,该光转换层包括量子点材料。
8.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,该偏光件包括多个偏光转换体。
9.根据权利要求8所述的显示设备,其特征在于,该多个偏光转换体包括量子棒材料。
10.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,还包括一黏着层,设置于该第二基板和该偏光件之间。
11.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,该偏光件的材料包括金属线栅材料以及聚乙烯醇材料的至少其中一种。
12.根据权利要求11所述的显示设备,其特征在于,该偏光件还包括一保护层与一偏光层,该保护层设置于该偏光层与该多个像素之间。
13.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,还包括一共享电极层,设置于该偏光件与该第二基板之间。
14.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,还包括一共享电极层,设置于该偏光件与该第一基板之间。
15.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,还包括一共享线,设置于该密封件与该偏光件之间,其中该共享线被该密封件环绕。
16.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,该偏光件与该密封件彼此间隔设置。
17.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,该密封件部分重迭于该偏光件。
18.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,还包括一周边电路,设置于该像素与该密封件之间,其中该偏光件部分重迭该周边电路。
19.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,还包括一光调变层,设置于该偏光件与该多个像素之间。
20.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其特征在于,还包括一光源,邻近于该第一基板设置,其中该光源发出的光线的波长小于或等于490纳米。
