Description

Magnet tool in artificial cochlea
Technical Field
The invention belongs to the field of medical appliances, and particularly relates to an artificial cochlear implant magnet tool.
Background
Some implantable medical devices, such as cochlear implant systems, may include subcutaneous magnets that are used to hold a plurality of external elements, such as transmission coils, in place. However, these magnets are not compatible with various medical imaging systems, such as large field Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The magnet may demagnetize or distort the image and even cause injury to the patient. In order to perform MRI on a patient with an implanted magnet, a pre-imaging surgical procedure is first required to remove the magnet before imaging can be performed, after which another post-imaging surgical procedure is required to replace the magnet. In addition to these inconveniences, there is removal and replacement of the magnet during daily use. The magnet is sized to be a small disc-shaped or small sphere-shaped device that is difficult for the surgeon to grasp and manipulate. In the prior art, the removable magnet is located in a silicone having an opening in the upper surface of the implanted coil, and magnet removal and replacement is accomplished with conventional forceps.
