Technical Field
The present invention relates to the field of head-mounted display technologies, and in particular, to a method for identifying a head-mounted display device, and a head-mounted display system.
Background
The head mounted display device includes, for example, a head mounted virtual reality display device or a head mounted augmented reality display device.
One type of head-mounted display device needs to be connected with a host such as a computer, the host is responsible for main operation tasks, and the host outputs video data to the head-mounted display device for the head-mounted display device to display. Typically, such head mounted display devices also interact with the host computer through, for example, a USB interface for information other than video data.
There is a technical problem to such an application that only one host is supported to connect to one head-mounted display device. If one host is required to be connected with a plurality of head-mounted display devices, the host cannot identify the head-mounted display device corresponding to each interface.

Detailed Description
Various exemplary embodiments of the present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. It should be noted that: the relative arrangement of the components and steps, the numerical expressions and numerical values set forth in these embodiments do not limit the scope of the present invention unless specifically stated otherwise.
The following description of at least one exemplary embodiment is merely illustrative in nature and is in no way intended to limit the invention, its application, or uses.
Techniques, methods, and apparatus known to those of ordinary skill in the relevant art may not be discussed in detail but are intended to be part of the specification where appropriate.
In all examples shown and discussed herein, any particular value should be construed as merely illustrative, and not limiting. Thus, other examples of the exemplary embodiments may have different values.
It should be noted that: like reference numbers and letters refer to like items in the following figures, and thus, once an item is defined in one figure, further discussion thereof is not required in subsequent figures.
Referring to the method shown in fig. 1, the following steps are included. The invention aims at a head-mounted display device which comprises at least two interfaces used for connecting a host computer for data transmission.
In step 11, an identification is assigned to the head mounted display device.
For example, a manufacturer of a head-mounted display device assigns a unique identifier to its factory head-mounted display device and writes the unique identifier into a certain storage area of the head-mounted display device.
For another example, the head-mounted display device includes a USB interface, and a USB hub chip connected to the USB interface is provided. The manufacturer of the head mounted display device may configure the USB hub chips in each head mounted display device such that each USB hub chip generates a unique identification (commonly referred to as a Container ID, 16 bytes long) after power-on.
In step 12, the head mounted display device sends the identifier to the host through each interface, so that the host can identify the head mounted display device corresponding to each interface.
Taking the second example in step 11 as an example, different head-mounted display devices send different Container IDs to the host through respective USB interfaces. Therefore, the host can correspond the USB interfaces which send the same Container ID to the host to the same head-mounted display device.
The method is also suitable for video data interfaces of the head-mounted display equipment, such as DisplayPort interfaces, HDMI interfaces, MHL interfaces and the like. Typically, the head-mounted display device sends Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) to the host through the video data interface. EDID is a standard data format containing information such as vendor information, maximum image size, color settings, vendor presets, frequency range, display name, serial number, etc. And writing the identification in the step 11 into the EDID, and sending the EDID to the host through the video data interface, so that the host can identify the unique identification corresponding to each head-mounted display device from the received EDID.
Through the method, the host can correspond the interfaces which send the same identification information to the host to the interfaces of the same head-mounted display equipment, so that the host is connected with a plurality of head-mounted display equipment.
See fig. 2 for a head mounted display device 20 for implementing the foregoing method. The head-mounted display device 20 includes at least two interfaces for connecting a host for data transmission: a first interface 21, a second interface 22, … …, an nth interface 2 n. The head mounted display device 20 has an identification, and each of the above interfaces is configured to send this identification to the host. Therefore, the host can judge that the interfaces sending the same identification correspond to the same head-mounted display equipment.
Referring to the head mounted display device shown in fig. 3, this is a specific example. The head-mounted display device 30 comprises a USB interface 31, a USB hub chip 32 connected to the USB interface, a video data interface 33, and a control module 34 connected to the video data interface 33, wherein the control module 34 is further connected to the USB hub chip 32.
The USB hub chip 32 generates a unique identification after each power-up start according to an algorithm selected by the manufacturer. When the host is connected to the head mounted display device 30 through the USB interface 31, the host reads the identifier generated by the USB hub chip 32 through the USB interface 31. The USB hub chip 32 also sends the identification to the control module 34, the control module 34 stores the identification in its memory and writes the identification into the extended display identification data, and the control module 34 sends the extended display identification data to the host through the video data interface 33.
Through the steps, the host can know that the USB interface and the video data interface which send the same identification information to the host are the interfaces of the same head-mounted display device.
Referring to fig. 4, the head mounted display system includes two head mounted display devices 20a, 20b and a host 40.
The head-mounted display device 20a comprises a first interface 21a and a second interface 22a, the head-mounted display device 20b comprises a first interface 21b and a second interface 22b, and the host 40 comprises four interfaces 41-44.
Here, the head-mounted display devices 20a and 20b are two specific examples of the head-mounted display device 20 shown in fig. 2.
Interfaces 41, 42 of host 40 receive the identification transmitted by head mounted display device 20a, and interfaces 43, 44 of host 40 receive the identification transmitted by head mounted display device 20 b. So that host 40 may know that interfaces 41, 42 correspond to one head mounted display device and interfaces 43, 44 correspond to another head mounted display device.
Although some specific embodiments of the present invention have been described in detail by way of examples, it should be understood by those skilled in the art that the above examples are for illustrative purposes only and are not intended to limit the scope of the present invention. It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that modifications may be made to the above embodiments without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention. The scope of the invention is defined by the appended claims.
