Technical Field
The invention relates to a valve actuating lever for a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine, which is mounted by means of a ball socket on a cylinder head or a component of the cylinder head of the internal combustion engine, is in operative connection (Wirkvertandung) with a cam of a camshaft, has a substantially inverted U-shaped cross section with lateral side walls, is produced from sheet steel by means of stamping, bending and/or deep drawing, and has a support for a stem of a gas exchange valve or for an intermediate piece, and to the production thereof.

Such a valve actuating lever in the form of a rocker arm is known from DE 102004002290 a 1. The rocker arm is produced from a pre-stamped sheet metal blank, in which the lateral webs are subsequently folded into side walls and by stamping a ball socket is produced which is in operative connection with a tappet which is usually fastened to the cylinder head. The stamping of the ball socket takes place by means of a punch and a counter-seat, also called anvil or die holder. The problem here is that the installation space between the outer shape of the ball socket and the side walls is too small to allow space for the counter seat or die holder 360 ° around the outer shape of the ball socket. As a result, an unexpected transition between the socket and the side wall is produced, which has a recess and a sharp edge. These notches and edges serve to reduce the strength.
Disclosure of Invention
The object of the present invention is to provide a valve actuating lever in which the disadvantages mentioned are eliminated, but which is nevertheless inexpensive to produce.
The object of the invention is achieved in that the deep drawing process of the socket takes place after the side wall has been formed by means of a punch and a counter-part, and a surrounding free space for the counter-part is provided between the side wall and the outer shape of the socket. This free space should be provided without continuously widening the spacing of the side walls from one another, so that no undesired widening of the valve actuating lever occurs. The free space between the side wall and the outer shape of the socket is thus achieved by stamping or molding a recess on the inside of the side wall. Depending on the installation space ratio of the valve actuating lever, however, it is also possible to produce a recess on the inside of the side wall and a projection on the outside of the side wall, so that the width of the side wall remains constant.
As a method for manufacturing the joystick, there are proposed: the recess in the side wall has been produced by embossing the corresponding location on the blank, so that after the side wall has been formed, the recess on the inside is provided.

In fig. 1 to 4, a valve actuating lever obtained after stamping a steel sheet as a blank 2, from which such a later valve actuating lever is formed, is denoted overall by 1 in general detail, wherein a side wall 3 is formed by bending a lateral strip.
The recess 4 is pressed into the blank 2 at a position adjacent to the ball socket 5 to be stamped later after the side wall 3 is bent. A free space is thus formed on the inner side of the side wall 3 (see fig. 4), into which a counter-holder or anvil or forging die holder can be placed in order to form the ball socket 5 by the punch.
