Abstract

预打印(格式等)或固定大小(标签等)热敏介质应在打印机内准确对准,以便恰当地对齐打印到该介质上。确保准确介质对准的最常见方法是在该介质的背面或正面上使用预打印“黑色标记”。

本发明包括一种打印机机构及其校准和操作方法。
根据本发明教导,可以使用红绿蓝(RGB)色彩光传感器来检测热敏介质的正面上的预打印元素并且针对各种格式和标签(例如,条形码标签和停车违规传票)实施所需介质对准。这消除了对黑色标记或/和背面反射式光电传感器的任何需要。RGB色彩光传感器可以结合红外线(IR)阻挡过滤器使用,以避免由直射阳光和其它红外线源导致的感测误差。
根据某些示例性实施例,替代在打印头机构中使用红外线反射式传感器,利用RGB色彩光传感器。例如:可以使用英特锡尔(Intersil)部件号ISL29120。在另一示例中,撕开即用的机构可以利用带有IR阻挡过滤器(诸如例如英特锡尔部件号ISL29125)的RGB色彩光传感器。

可以通过(例如)检测对应于缺少介质、黑色标记(又称为Q标记)、预打印文本、表格、绘图、单元格、线等的光强度来在216处检测元素。当在216处发现元素时,可以检查该元素以看该元素是否匹配对应于220处的缺少介质值的光强度。如果是这样,则OOM计数在252处增量。为确保打印机真的缺少介质并且未受到打印介质缺陷的欺骗,使用数个(例如,5-10个)连续OOM检测结果作为256处的极限。
如果在216处未发现元素,则该过程转到244,在244处已经遇到最大数量N个的连续空白或空值。如果已经达到极限N,则校准在248处以错误终止,以便防止平面白纸行进到介质辊的端部。在达到输送极限之前,在208处,该过程使打印介质每次行进通过打印机一个点线。
如果在220处RGB传感器产生指示已经达到介质的用完的信号,则该过程如先前所论述转到252,在252处OOM计数增量为一个点线。控制然后转到256以确定OOM计数是否已经超过OOM计数极限M。如果未超过,则控制转回到208,并且该过程继续。如果在256处达到OOM计数极限M,则OOM计数在260处被初始化为零,并且校准鉴于打印机显然缺少打印介质而在264处终止。
现在参见图4,在302处开始的流程图300中绘示示例性打印过程。在306处,针对点线输送并烧录(burn)打印介质(例如,热敏打印机纸)。在310处并且在314处,RGB传感器向处理器输出信号,该过程以先前所述相同方式确定是否已经遇到元素。如果遇到,则控制转到318。如果未遇到,则该过程行进到326以确定打印队列是否为空。
在318处,如果传感器未生成OOM信号,则OOM计数在322处被设置为零,并且控制转到326。如果在326处打印队列为空,则打印作业视为在330处完成,并且打印过程结束。如果在326处打印队列不为空,则控制转回到306,在306处,下一个点线被增量并被烧录。
如果在318处获得缺少介质传感器读数,则OOM计数在334处被增量(同样,这确保接收到足够的连续OOM计数以确保已经达到介质的用完)。如果在338处达到OOM计数极限,则在342处OOM计数被重设为零,并且在346处打印机停止打印。打印机可以生成警报以通知用户打印机缺少介质。
可以由在404处开始的图5的示例性流程图400中绘示的过程来校准缺少介质传感器读数。在408处从打印机移除打印介质(如果存在),并且在412处捕获RBG传感器输出。该传感器输出表示无介质存在的OOM信号电平。这可以在416处存储为OOM传感器输出。由于此值可以稍微变化,因此该过程可以靠近此值设置阈值,该阈值被用作超过其OOM信号视为已出现的阈值。
在打印机构中使用RGB传感器可以打开各种各样的处理选项,该处理选项在执行打印功能时可以证明是有用的。RGB传感器可以将反射式和透射式感测方法两者用于普通介质检测。RGB传感器还可以被配置成在检测特定颜色时触发中断,并且这可以用于各种控制功能。当打印机利用背面传感器时,打印机结构通常包括布线穿过纸门铰链的柔性电缆,但是当打印机仅利用正面RGB传感器时,这不是必需的。
因此,如上所述,打印机具有朝向打印介质的位置指引光的光源。RGB传感器被定位成接收来自光源的由打印介质反射的光。红外光过滤器位于RGB传感器与纸之间以过滤出红外光。经编程处理器耦合到RGB传感器的输出以便检测来自RGB光传感器的输出中的格式元素,检索格式的所存储电子表示,使格式元素与格式的所存储电子表示匹配以识别格式上的位置,以及控制对格式的打印。

Claims (10)
1.一种打印机,其包括:
朝向打印介质路径指引光的光源;
红绿蓝(RGB)光传感器,其被定位成接收来自所述光源的由打印介质反射的光;
红外光过滤器,其位于所述RGB光传感器与所述打印介质之间以便过滤出进入所述RGB光传感器的红外光;以及
经编程处理器;
所述RGB光传感器具有耦合到所述经编程处理器的输出;
所述经编程处理器被编程为检测来自所述RGB光传感器的所述输出中的至少一个格式元素。
2.根据权利要求1所述的打印机,其中:
所述格式元素用于检索格式的所存储电子表示;并且
经编程处理器被编程为:
使所述至少一个格式元素与所述格式的所述所存储电子表示匹配以识别所述格式上的位置;以及
控制对所述格式的打印。
3.根据权利要求1所述的打印机,其还包括在所述RGB传感器与所述处理器之间的I2C接口。
4.根据权利要求1所述的打印机,其中,所述至少一个格式元素包括被指定用于界定待被打印数据的至少一个单元格。
5.根据权利要求1所述的打印机,其中,所述处理器被编程为:
使所述打印介质行进通过所述打印机;
当所述打印介质行进通过所述打印机时,识别来自所述RGB光传感器的所述输出中的格式元素;以及
将经识别格式元素作为所述格式的电子表示存储到存储器。
6.根据权利要求1所述的打印机,其中,所述处理器被编程为通过检测到低于规定阈值的光强度来确定所述打印机缺少介质。
7.根据权利要求1所述的打印机,其中,所述处理器被编程为通过检测到大于规定阈值的光强度来确定所述打印机包含打印介质。
8.一种方法,其包括:
在经编程处理器处接收来自红绿蓝(RGB)光传感器的输出信号;
使打印介质行进通过打印机;
当所述打印介质行进通过所述打印机时,检测来自所述RGB光传感器的所述输出中的至少一个格式元素;
检索格式的所存储电子表示;
使所述至少一个格式元素与所述格式的所述所存储电子表示匹配以识别所述格式上的位置;以及
打印到所述格式。
9.根据权利要求8所述的方法,其包括从传递到所述RGB光传感器的光中过滤出红外光。
10.根据权利要求8所述的方法,其中,使用I2C接口将来自所述RGB传感器的所述输出信号传递到所述处理器。
