Referring to fig. 1 to 3, an electrical connector assembly 100 of the present invention is used for connecting a chip (not shown) to a circuit board 200, and includes an electrical connector 10 and a fixing base 30 framed on a peripheral side of the electrical connector 10. The electrical connector 10 has a housing 11, and a plurality of conductive terminals (not shown) held by the housing 11. The insulating body 11 has a chip accommodating cavity 110, and the conductive terminals protrude into the chip accommodating cavity 110. The electrical connector assembly 100 further includes a protective cover 20 fixed to the fixing base 30 and covering the conductive terminals. The assembly direction of the protective cover 20 and the fixing base 30 is defined as the up-down direction, when the chip is not assembled, the protective cover 20 is buckled to the fixing base 30, and when the chip needs to be assembled, the protective cover 20 is firstly detached from the fixing base 30.
The protective cover 20 includes a main body 21 covering the conductive terminal to protect the conductive terminal, and a first engaging portion 23 and an operating portion 22a disposed on the main body 21. The fixing base 30 includes a metal base 31 framed on the periphery of the insulating body 11 and a second fastening portion 32 protruding upward from the base 31 and having a column shape. Referring to fig. 6, the second fastening portion 32 is recessed inward from an outer surface thereof to form an annular groove 323 and a skirt portion 322 forming an upper wall of the annular groove 323. The skirt portion 322 is provided with a guide slope gradually expanding from top to bottom so as to guide the first locking portion 23 to slide into the annular groove 323. As shown in fig. 4, the first fastening portion 23 has a U-shaped hook 231, the U-shaped hook 231 extends inward from the periphery of the second fastening portion 32 into the annular groove 323 to fasten the second fastening portion 32, and the U-shaped hook 231 and the skirt portion 322 are in interference fit in the vertical direction to fix the protective cover 20 on the fixing base 30. The U-shaped hook 231 can greatly increase the interference between the hook 231 and the skirt portion 322, so that the hook and the skirt portion are more firmly fastened, and the protective cover 20 is not easy to loosen the fixing base 30. The protective cover 20 is defined to have a front-back direction and a transverse direction perpendicular to the front-back and up-down directions. Referring to fig. 4 to 7, the protective cover 20 is made of plastic material and is integrally formed, the main body 21 is substantially rectangular and flat, and has two sets of opposite corners, one set of the opposite corners is provided with a pair of the first locking portions 23, and the other set of the opposite corners is provided with a pair of the positioning portions 24. The protective cover 20 is provided with four side walls 22 extending downwards from the periphery of the main body portion 24, and the two first buckling portions 23 and the two positioning portions 24 are connected end to end by the four side walls 22. The two first fastening portions 23 are located on the front side and the rear side of the main body portion 21, and the two U-shaped hooks 231 are oppositely opened and arranged back to back, that is, the U-shaped hook 231 located on the front side is opened forward, and the U-shaped hook 231 located on the rear side is opened backward. The four side walls 22 include two front and rear opposite side walls 22 and two lateral opposite side walls 22 located between the two side walls 22, wherein the two front and rear opposite side walls 22 are the operation portions 22 a. The elastic arm part 232 includes a horizontal extension 2321 connected to the main body part 21 and a vertical extension 2322 connected to the U-shaped hook 231, the horizontal extension 2321 is configured as an annular body having a through hole, and the annular body is formed to protrude outward from one side of the main body part 21 in the transverse direction, so that excellent elasticity can be obtained. The first fastening portion 23 is substantially Z-shaped, and the upper and lower ends of the vertical extending portion 2322 horizontally extend inward and outward to form the horizontal extending portion 2321 and the U-shaped hook 231.
The U-shaped hook 231 includes a root connected to the vertical extension 2322, and a fastening region 2312 and a guiding region 2313 formed by extending from the root outwards in sequence. The guiding area 2313 is gradually opened outwards to form a guiding inclined plane for guiding the second fastening part 32 to enter the fastening area 2312, and the opening of the U-shaped hook 231 is formed at the outermost side of the guiding area 2313. The latching area 2312 has a receiving space for receiving the second latching portion 32, and a pair of protrusions 2311 protruding toward the receiving space are formed at the connection position of the latching area 2312 and the guiding area 2313 to prevent the second latching portion 32 from being disengaged. As shown in fig. 5, the bottom surfaces of the fastening area 2312 and the guiding area 2313 are both recessed upward to form a U-shaped groove 2314 communicated with the accommodating space, and the groove 2314 has a U-shaped upper groove wall, and the upper groove wall is inclined in the vertical direction.
Referring to fig. 1 to 3, the chip is pressed and fixed above the insulating body 11 by a heat sink (not shown). The heat sink is assembled and fixed to the fixing base 30. The fixing base 30 includes a set of two screws 32 assembled to a diagonal of the base 31 and two positioning posts 33 with a larger diameter and a smaller diameter assembled to another set of diagonal of the base 31. The heat sink and the positioning portion 24 of the protective cover 20 are provided with two through holes with a larger size and a smaller size corresponding to the positioning posts 33 to obtain the fool-proof effect. As shown in fig. 4 and 5, the through holes of the two positioning portions 24 penetrate the main body from top to bottom, and the diameter of the through holes gradually increases from top to bottom. With such an arrangement, the positioning portion 24 can be obliquely sleeved around the positioning post 33, which is beneficial to the assembly and disassembly of the U-shaped hook 231 on the one hand, and can avoid the situation that the positioning post 33 cannot be inserted into the through hole of the positioning portion 24 due to the inclination. It should be noted that each of the screws 32 constitutes one of the second fastening portions 32.
As further shown in fig. 6, the screw 32 is made of metal and is integrally formed, and the screw 32 is sequentially provided with a thread portion 321 for locking the heat sink, the skirt portion 322 having a diameter larger than that of the thread portion 321, the annular groove 323, an annular protrusion 324, and a holding portion 325 from top to bottom. The holding portion 325 is received in the through hole of the base 31 and laser-welded to the base 31. The annular protrusion 324 abuts against the upper surface of the base 31 and is received in the groove 2314 of the U-shaped hook 231. The upper surface of the annular protrusion 324 extends obliquely upward and downward to match the upper groove wall of the groove 2314.
The fixing base 30 is provided with a pair of elastic metal pieces 34 at the middle position in the front-rear direction for supporting the heat sink. The pair of resilient metal members 34 are located on both lateral sides of the protective cap 20. In this embodiment, a certain gap is reserved between the first fastening part 23 and the second fastening part 32, and between the positioning part 24 and the positioning column 333.
Referring to fig. 1 to 8, when the protective cover 20 is fastened to the fixing base 30, one of the two first fastening portions 23 is assembled first, and then the other first fastening portion 23 is installed. Taking the first locking part 23 installed at the rear side first as an example: aligning the two positioning parts 24 with the two positioning columns 33 at the same time, and tilting the protective cover 20 up and down to extend the opening of the U-shaped hook 231 at the rear side into the annular groove 323; the protective cover 20 is pushed back to make the second fastening portion 32 enter the guiding area 2313, then the pair of protrusions 2311 move to two sides under the extrusion of the second fastening portion 32 to make the second fastening portion 32 enter the fastening area 2312, and finally the protrusions 2311 are tightened inwards to limit the second fastening portion 32 in the accommodating space of the fastening area 2312, at this time, the U-shaped hook 231 on the front side is still located above the skirt pendulum portion 322; further pushing the protection cover 20 backward to make the elastic arm part 232 connected with the rear U-shaped hook 231 elastically deform, so that the main body part 21 further moves backward to drive the front U-shaped hook 231 to move backward to reduce the interference between the U-shaped hook 231 and the skirt part 322 in the vertical direction; when the interference is reduced to a certain extent, the protection cover 20 is pressed against to prevent it from moving forward, and at the same time, the protection cover 20 is pressed downward, and the protection cover 20 is released when the U-shaped hook 231 on the front side falls into the annular groove 323. In this embodiment, the two U-shaped hooks 231 are disposed back to back, and in other embodiments, the openings of the two U-shaped hooks 231 may be disposed face to face (opposite to each other).
