The composite material comprises following components by weight: 60-75% of polyethylene, 16-32% of a halogen-free flame retardant, 4-8% of an assist flame retardant, 3-8% of talcum powder, 1-3% of a compatibilizer, 0.5-2% of a dispersant, 0.1-1% of a coupling agent, 0.1-1% of an antioxidant and 0-1% of a pigment. Beneficial effects of the composite material and the preparation method thereof are that: compared with the prior art, the composite material is good in halogen-free flame retardant property (with the oxygen index reaching 30) and meets the UL94-0 flame retardant grade standards; the composite material is low in fuming amount, nontoxic, free of molten droplets, and the like; and the composite material is high in dispersibility, good in appearance, high in impact strength (39.5-40.8 kJ/m2), high in tensile strength (with the breaking elongation being larger than 180%), high in heat resistance, and the like.
